  1. A6000 is a much more complete package: flip screen, evf, good handling. If this will be your only camera, id definitely go for the Sony. Even if the GM1 might be a bit better regarding image quality.

If you are looking for the smallest extra, GM1 it is. I love this little camera, but compared to the A6000 its a pain to work with.

  2. 1 - Just get a good multi coated one. Doest have to be mega expensive but don't get the cheapest ones (Hoya is good price/performance imo).

2 - General advice: don't set the aperture at f/11 or higher, go for f/4 or f/5.6, maximum f/8. Since it is a small sensor (2x crop) the depth of field is huge and actually you are losing sharpness because of diffraction at apertures above f/5.6 You might choose to stop down to f/8 if that makes corner sharpness better, but at wide angles I'm pretty sure f/5.6 will give good/best results for the kit lens.

I wouldn't go for full auto settings. Just go for aperture control with, or shutter speed priority in low light. you could use auto iso if the light is unpredictable (in low light), but on a sunny day, f/5.6 at iso 200 (lowest) will give perfectly fine shutter speeds I think.

3 - Depends what you want... you can get m43 adapters for pretty much any exotic lens mount on ebay for $10, there's plenty of old glass you can pick up for next to nothing. Cheap enough to experiment...

  3. Not signed an NDA but the company are friends and I'm going to shut up until they're ready.

I have been testing the X today and all I can say is.... WOW!!

So it sure is not Canikon or another big company. Probably Metabones or maybe SLR Magic has something up their sleeves. Ok... I'll stop prying, just one question... How much is it?? :p
  4. Is the olympus less prone to flare? All UWA's are I think.
The 4/3 lens should work with the proper adapter. I don't see why not. Autofocus probably will be slow though.

There aren't really any other alternatives. Definitely not in native m43 mount. Maybe there is a old Sigma 10-20mm with active 4/3 mount, but I'm pretty sure the panasonic will be better.

  5. [On live webcast...]

    1. The moment you see the Panny rep you know the camera is going to be free of shortcomings and flawless in every aspect.
    2. The best use they can come up with for slo.mo are family videos.
    3. They omit the imminent launch of the Shogun and "the brick" is presented as the only option to record 422 4K externally.

The GH4 goes into the books as the first camera that is actually better and more useful than the sales reps say themselves :)

Great write up review Andrew. You cross all the points why I went with this camera: price, size, ease of use, stealth, no rigging necessary, incredible battery, and it has some pretty decent image quality as a bonus ;)

Btw... That June 3rd thing you put in there... Exciting! Kinda sounds like a speed booster that makes EF glass work fullframe on the GH4... Fingers crossed! What time does your NDA end? I'm gonna set my alarm :p
  6. I know Andrew. But that is not an excuse for copyright infringement. Make another edit with another score for your promo work, if you must... If a person is unable to do their business without copyright infringement, there is something terribly wrong with that business imo.

Btw, you mentioned I should research fair use, maybe, I'm not an expert. But I think you should do the same.. the Wiki you link to is exactly where I got that quote from, I'm pretty sure the way you use (copyrighted) music on your video's would not classify as fair use.

    Also see Pablo's reply.

Anyway, I don't like copyright laws either, but I respect them when creating my own stuff and uploading it to the public. And even though I agree with a lot of the arguments, I don't think justifies to just do as you like.

  7. I don't see how this falls under fair use.

Fair use is a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, search engines, criticism, parody, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship.

Also, I thought fair use is an American regulation. I'm sure we don't have this in The Netherlands (we have citation rights, but using music in public videos sure doesn't comply to that). Not sure how that works in Germany though.
  8. WOW that's $2090 in AUD and I can buy it for about $1800 delivered new!!

    WOW. AMAZING. Good for you.

At least this guy isn't trying to rip anyone off. You are buying something practically new, that is out of stock, for less money. Fair sale. Good luck Andrew, shame you have to let it go.
