1. only available in 720p. Seriously canon. you want us to buy a 4k camera with us only having seen the results in 720p on vimeo?
 2. Anyone else use this setup? Andrew, do you still back the 701HDV as the tripod head of choice? I'm not a particular fan but I've only used 1 other head (the weifang 717, which i'm also not fond of) ? any updates on the sticks?
 3. If your project is important enough to be projected onto a large screen, don't you think those are questions you should be investigating yourself and coming to an informed decision, rather than blindly taking our opinion?
 4. 2/3s and under 5000 grand from what I remember, i'm pretty sure more info is at the site, i didnt read it extensively
 5. http://www.indiecam.com/ 12bit raw up to 1080p60, 10bit raw up to 1080p120 or 2kp60, it also does YUV 4:2:2 up to 1080p60 and it uses a Global Shutter. also, this: http://ioindustries.com/ioentertainment/ Stolen from r/filmmakers
 6. really looks great, especially for no hack. I find the Gh2 really does well with a green/orange tint. Not as contrasty as canon stuff, which is good and bad
 7. definitely not much of a fan of RED either. Much prefer the alexa/ c300 footage. but i do love what kineraw is bringing to the market, of course the grading is entirely opinion driven- as are the case with all raw cameras. I more than welcome a product that drives competition! :)
 8. zeiss contax 50mm is like 300$  !  :)
 9. looks... awful... :/ very saturated, almost like bad film from the 80's. then again, i have no idea what i'm doing.
 10. so obviously they are recycling the body, do you think all of the internals are the same as well? Is a 1D-C just an un-hindered 1D-X with an ethernet port?
 11. http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2012/04/looking-inside-the-canon1dc-dslr-4k-capture-project-the-ticket/ 1:17 of the first video you can clearly see they are using a 1DX NOT a 1D-C. In every other shot of the video, the "X" is covered with black gaff tape. Why? probably because it's the same exact camera with different firmware, in my opinion. Also, take into note how Canon has uploaded this video to their private vimeo page, only allowing it to embed on shane's blog.  Why not let Shane upload it himself like he always does? What do you guys think?
 12. From 43rumors, where they have this listed as an FT2 (FT2=21-40% chance the rumor is correct) This may be higher, but this list comes from an asian source 43 rumors has not been in contact with before. Sensor: 15.5 mega-pixel sensor Iso: Iso 160-12800, extends to 80-51200 Speed: 6.7fps Body: Magnesium alloy body, weather sealed, thinner and lighter than GH2, overall design evolves with improved ergonomics LCD: 3.2″ ips, 1050k-dots, with capacitive touch screen (multi-touch depending on final setting in firmware). LCD tilt-able EVF: new EVF with 2.06 mega-dots Card: double SDXC slots Flash: wireless flash trigger (pending new flagship flash gun) Video: 1080p60, 24Mbps AVCHD, super slow-mo:480p @ 220fps (reduced FOV) Battery: battery life >500 CIPA GPS: in-camera GPS Wifi: optional wifi accessory Other features: firmware is not finalized. in-cam HDR, multi-frame night scenes will go into production units once qualified. X kit: GH3 + 12-35X Of course these specs seem almost too good to be true  ;D so i guess it is possible they aren't, but why would someone go through the effort of trying to report false information?
 13. VERY interesting.... if the 550d does prove to be the camera that this works on I will be very happy to stick with it!  :D
 14.

The internal battery is wrong headed and a problem.
Agreed.  Two bad design decisions with this camera: internal battery and EOS mount.  Everything else is all we could hope for (and more) at $3000.
EOS mount was actually a much better business decision than M43 mount. Would a M43 mount make the camera more versatile? yes. But EOS mount speaks volumes, it tells the consumer, "Hey, we're listening. We see that you have lots of canon glass, please feel free to use it on our camera." Right now, Canon has a much larger share of the consumer market than m43, and it's much wiser to cater to that larger share INITIALLY to get that consumer base behind the camera before telling the consumer what mount is better and what they should want.
 15.

If you think you need slow mo (which you probably don't, no one really does)
a little toooo bold there... you should really rethink cinematography.  I guess this all depends on your subjectivity of filmmaking.
It's about the story. You dont need a camera that does 240fps to tell a story. You can slow it down in post if the effect is NEEDED to tell the story. (which 95% of the time, it isn't) Does it sometimes enhance production value? yes. I love slow mo stuff. But when I need it, I'll be happy to rent out, because it isn't that often.
 16.
https://vimeo.com/40117480 i really like work of this guys  ... they make some of the best images made by canon camera (with cheap lens and low budget postproduction).... im really puzzled why they are not more famous ... that video beats anything what i seen made by Shane Hurlbut  and Philip Bloom ... https://vimeo.com/25465542 :)
absolutely not. If you honestly think Luke Neumann can even come close to holding a candle in the wind to Shane Hurlbut then you're delusional.
 17.
this camera is too overhyped imo.  24, 25, or 30p is not sufficient enough for filmmaking.  overcranking is something unique in telling a shot (from the story) or for sports enthusiasts.  I was watching the Patriot just a couple of days ago and the overcranking done in the film is really well done.  right away I was thinking of the FS700 because to me FULL HD 1080p is good enough.  I think the FS700 is really going to shine in all directions.  60 or 50p is a bonus for post slow mo digital effects for whatever NLE you're rocking.  maybe they can revise the firmware before release and implement 60 or 50p the same way Sony and Panasonic are doing atm.  notice atm!
This camera is 3000. The FS700 is 8000. They are tools with different features and cost different amounts of money. If you think you need slow mo (which you probably don't, no one really does) Then buy an FS700 and don't whine about how blackmagic didnt make the holy grail of cameras. It made a wicked nice camera with some great features for an even greater price. They are fully aware that this camera gives up some features in order to make it's price point. I'm glad it does.
 18. Sorry to hijack another thread about skin tones, but can someone explain even more about them? Axel really elaborated the importance of preserving skin tone in another thread, and how to go about that in post, but what makes a camera great in terms of skin tone? If you're shooting raw isnt the skin tone quality entirely up to the grader?
 19. Handles the highlight in the background well but I see noisy video-dslr- like grain on the right shoulder and hair on the right side. Especially noticeable in Axel's thumbnail, (i doubt it's something he caused)
 20.

Oh yes its all wrapped up in its gold plated £11000 F3 with £2500 for slog and another dip for an outboard recorder that has to be 4,4,4 meaning another £5000 to get 13 stops.
F3, including the S-Log, is $13,000 to 14,000, street prices -- cheaper than Canon 1D-c
yeah but the 1Dc image blows the f3 out of the water, in my opinion.
 21. This just looks incredible! http://youtu.be/tfSS89gUGmY
 22. What are the best GH2 short films in your opinion? Real narratives, I mean. I'm interested in seeing how the camera holds up in a storytelling environment, not just how much resolution it gets while staring at a sheep  ;) Great example I have seen so far: https://vimeo.com/39160354
 23. so you're saying after I grade my footage I should mark skin tone as the secondary and grade it so that it lines up with that line?
 24.

Notice how she says that the AF100 isn't dead? Well, of course it isn't. Panasonic is hoping to generate new revenues by charging $250 to add AVCHD 2.0 capability to it. The camera isn't dead until the last one stops functioning. By this measure, even the DVX100 is still alive.
When a camera stops selling it is dead, regardless of whether there are a slew of them in the market place that are still working, but as long as new serial numbers are being created, and there are, it is still very much a viable camera in in its price point.
She talked about the 4K camera and AVC-Ultra. What she didn't say is that there will be an AF100 successor, especially in the m4/3 format, at a comparable (or cheaper) price point. It was anticipated last year.
Well that would have been difficult to anticipate last year since the camera has only been delivering for 15 months.  That would be a very short life span.
Now, two years after the AF100 was announced, there's still no successor.
We announced the fact we were going to make it at NAB 2010, the first one did not deliver until December 2010.  That is way too short of a time frame for a new camera.
It seems that with a little effort, the AF100's sensor (or, preferably, an improved update) could've been coupled with the HPX250's 10-bit P2/AVC-Intra 100 guts to produce a $6K camera. But no. So, I think the basic premise of Andrew Reid's post is valid and the AF line ends with the AF100.
I think this would be interesting as a camera but not as interesting as where it really needs to be to maintain a competitive edge for the few years it needs to after release.  All cameras do have to pay for their R & D. That said, I am not really at liberty to discuss new products that are not on the NAB floor.  And while you can choose to go along and believe the rumor that Andrew has started here, it is simply incorrect. Best regards, Jan
I really don't understand why it matters how long the af100 has been in production. The camera isnt any good. Why on earth would I buy an af100 when I could buy a GH2 and get a better image? And PLEASE don't limit the GH3's potential. doing so WILL NOT HELP. Putting limits on the gh3 in order to help make an af100 successor 'stand out' in the eyes of panasonic will just cause me to jump ship from panasonic entirely and you will lose my business for a good 3-5 years as andrew has stated.
