  1. i find a thread about 4k camera FPN and firmware updates http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26972 so there is a chance that it can be fixed in future updates in Micro camera too. and bad news is that this update was released about a year after camera release :)

Here is also nice suggest from RED forum. In theory these things can affect FPN in Micro camera if you don't switch it off and on after changes.
    Blackshade when:
    - you make big changes to framerate/shutterspeed (switching from 4k/24fps to 1k/120fps for example)
    - switching to long exposure modes (for timelapse etc.)
    - dramatic temperature/environment changes

    - on set, before a big shoot
    - after you've updated your firmware
    - maybe after you haven't used your camera for a few days/weeks

yeah, it's going to arrive today via fedex. looking forward to seeing how it compares to my first one.

Did you get any feedback from BMD support regarding this FPN problem? Or they just send new camera without any answers?

I wrote to BMD support with question about "is this hardware/sensor problem or it can be fixed with firmware updates" but don't get any reply yet.

    Thanks, appreciate it.

Btw, I haven't seen it discussed here but this cage from 8sinn (polish company) is really great. Makes it a lot more throwable and droppable.

    http://www.8sinn.com/index.php/products/8sinn-bmcc-micro-cage.html

And the Hdmi lock is made in a way so the cable doesn't get fucked - I recommend it a lot!

this is nice cage but it has only one middle 3/8 mounting point at the bottom :( also it seems that angle HDMI and D-sub adapters can't fit to this cage, so your wires will always stick out off the camera and you can't mount a side handle close to camera body.

  4. Tucsen & Gpixel Inc. Jointly Launch the Dhyana 95, the World’s First 11um pixel with 2K x 2K resolution, 95% Quantum Efficiency Scientific CMOS Camera. I must say that QE of 95% in real world is huge amount of dynamic range! For example sensor used in blackmagic pocket camera has QE about 55% .

  5. Bioskop.Inc, try Resolve ACES workflow it works same as RPP even better. i used RPP for video for a while but it is too slow even if you pay for multithread update, and needs a lot of additional space. Also default DNG input profile in RPP is too undersaturated for Blackmagic cameras so you always need to build custom input profile with color chart.

guys, when you get a chance, can you please drop some raw footage in the "camera files" topic pls. Would really help me decide on this camera.

Also for the people that have it on the side with pocket cinema, there is any difference in noise? Theoretically on micro should be less noise due to improved sensor readout but i hear more and more people complaining about being acually worse. thank you.

People calm slightly less shadow color noise on Micro but also seems its an odd unexpected fixed pattern noise problems in this camera. i personally wait with until BM fix it with new firmware or if its hardware related problem until it will be fixed in new batch. Hope Zak Forsman report to us about his repaired or replaced Micro Camera when he arrives it back from BM.

Hi everybody, really like this micro camera.

I would like to use it on the go like a little raw cam...

Would it be possible to use an electronic EVF on this cam to be able to shoot.

Like using a zacuto one for example.

The problem is that the new zacuto has no battery in it and it is really expensive.

is there any good alternative to be able to do that?

    thanks.

Maybe someone will make a control unit for it that attaches to the COM port!

I wrote about this long time ago to SmallRig company and they like the idea of something like Aaton/Sony FS7 Grip with buttons integrated to cage

The footage is oversharped as hell

The 60p out of this camera is unbelievable. Shooting some stuff this afternoon. This is the camera I have always wanted.

The level of stress I have shooting with this vs a larger setup or a 5D3 raw is so much lower. It looks great and is really fun to shoot with. The Small HD with LUT support is really needed to get the best out of it. Running Hook's Basic LUT in the still below. Obviously don't judge the quality of the image on that, just showing how effective it can be for judging exposure. Screen grab taken within Small HD monitor.

    Rig:

Eazy Handle V2 (Really nice well balanced skateboard handle. Can be configured to fit basically any DSLR. Made in the USA. Really good price, multiple versions depending on your needs.) http://www.eazydolly.com

    BMMCC

    Small HD 501

    Canon EF 35mm F2 IS

    HOYA IR Cut 82mm

did you tested IR pollution in this camera? is it needs hoya UV-IR filter all the time same as Pocket Camera or you expect to use it only with variable ND filter?

  10. I just compared some DNGs from 4.6k in full resolution in addition to DNGs from BMPCC in last version Resolve 12 vs. RPP and found that Resolve improve their debayer algorithm compared to previous version! Aliasing became less visible and its now pixel to pixel same as VCDMF algorithm in RPP. Thats very huge step forward! Also maybe its a reason why Zak Forsman noticed less aliasing from Micro Cinema Camera when he test it.

But the Highlights are still better handled and controlled in RPP. In more-less normal expose situations Resolve comes very close to RPP when use Davinci ACES workflow, but in extreme situations or when you need to recover a lot of underexposed shadows RPP looks way better and keeps more dynamic range. Hope developers add 3:1 and 4:1 DNG support to it.

  11. Yep 7 inch is nice for tripod but too large for run&gun and close to eyes situations. There is also 1920x1200 7" Neway CT710HO $359 or iKan DH7 $459. Video Assist not a perfect solution for monitor too. fan noise, too heavy, low battery life, connectors at the side makes it bulky and unsafe in some situations, rumors that screen is not IPS.

  12. It was a vey nice topic about Tiffen Ultra / Low Contrast filters but no any info or reviews of Formatt Hitech Contrast Filters anywhere. Anyone used them? Are they ok? what is the difference between Formatt Hitech Full Frame Contrast Filter, Formatt Hitech Low Contrast Filter and Formatt Hitech Low Contrast HD Filter? Why those filters don't listed on Formatt Hitech website? Are they multicoated? Are they produce green reflections and flares from direct light similar to Tiffen or not?

  13. if you miss BMPCC crappy screen you always can get something like US $20 5 inch High Resolution HD 800X480 Car TFT LCD Monitor Screen  and connect it to analog video out. also it helps if you have very limited budget or shoot in dangerous situations where lcd can be damaged. s-l1600.jpg

3.5" Digital TFT LCD Screen Rear View Monitor For Car Reverse Camera DVD VCD 320 * 240 resolutionfile_780.jpgfile_781.jpg

  14. $399 for adaptor, lol. today you can buy 5" full hd ikan dh5 for #349 or oem ikan dh7 (which is actually Neway CT710HO, 1920 x 1200 monitor) for $359. and it will be way more rugged and usable. and in near future i believe there will be oem dh5 for less than $200 from china manufacturers.
