Apple kill third party SSD support in Yosemite
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It doesn't affect a Hackintosh. I assume the driver signing is off anyway on those systems, since the very definition of a Hackintosh is that they are a hack. This problem comes when doing an official upgrade to Yosemite using the App Store on an official Mac system with third party SSD drive or external SSD caddy. -
Apple kill third party SSD support in Yosemite
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It worked over USB 3 as Mavericks booted instead of the stillborn Yosemite installation. The problem comes when upgrading to Yosemite. Read the article. -
DO NOT upgrade to Yosemite if you are booting from a third party SSD drive. Here's what Apple is up to and what to do about it... Read the full article here

Surprise! 4K Super 35mm JVC GY-LS300 costs just $4K

Cannot see how the ergonomics of this camera rival the FS7 or C100 Mk II. -
Surprise! 4K Super 35mm JVC GY-LS300 costs just $4K
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It's a crop. "The lens native angle of view". Not very clearly worded I have to admit. -
JVC had a prototype of this camera (missed by almost everybody) at IBC. Now the LS300 is available for pre-order at B&H for just $4450 with an expected shipping date of February 1st 2015. It features a Super 35mm sensor, snuggly fitting in a Micro Four Thirds mount able to take advantage of lens adapters for almost anything, with an internal 150Mb/s 4K codec at 30/24p. It also has a built in ND filter and 3G-SDI output as well, so great for external recorders like the Atomos Shogun... at least at first glance. Read the full article here

Quality video is never coming back to the DSLR line. That is precisely what the Cinema EOS line is for. And you must pay the asking price for it, or get a Sony.

Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
A lot of parrots in this thread, repeating things it seems. The moire comes from your non-4K display scaling the footage. It isn't from the camera. -

Andrew Reid replied to sudopera's topic in Cameras

Canon claimed they "pioneered 4K with the C500 in 2012". http://www.canon-europe.com/About_Us/Press_Centre/Press_Releases/Consumer_News/News/Disneyland_uses_Canon_Cinema_EOS.aspx Yep. Pioneered as in the first to do 4K. I don't want to buy cameras from a company who lies in a press release. Not to mention one that doesn't have anything appealing or 4K to sell me under $12k. If we stop airbrushing history for a moment, it was actually Dalsa who pioneered cinema 4K and RED who pioneered 4K for cheaper prices.

In 2009 Canon had the best full frame and APS-C sensor technology. Now they are behind almost everyone. Fuji have a tiny R&D budget compared to Canon BTW. Fuji with their X-trans APS-C sensor Panasonic with their 4K readout for cheap Sony across the board (both APS-C and full frame) Nikon with their custom Sony manufactured 36MP sensor Canon's 1D X/C sensor is their best and most innovative, the C300 sensor not far behind... but look at the prices!! Not competitive on price at all.

Shame DXOMark don't measure video, the gap would be even larger between Nikon and Canon there, not to mention Sony. The D5300 vs 7D Mark II for video - it's a no brainer. The D5300 has a better image, an articulated screen and is less than half the price. As for AF, it's still not fully usable for video. You can't rely on it. Not a single pro DP uses it.

Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
No they are from the D750 and A7S. I toned down the magenta in the grade, then Vimeo brought it back again. It would be really nice if we had better colour handling from screen to screen and platform to platform, not to mention the camera side. -
What happens when you press info? And why are you using a 7D Mk II for video. It's shit.

Nice tip, thanks alexO.

Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
In clear line of sight I am sure the WiFi link from LX100 to the ground would work reasonably well. I'd try that first. Shame Panasonic seem to have shot themselves in the foot though because LX100 would otherwise be so great on a drone. -
Yes, I have this lens and it works fine with the Mark 4 Metabones adapter on my A7S. IS is pretty good on it. Be sure to check out the Metabones site for a new firmware update, as the Mark 4 out of the box when it was released was still not entirely 100% bug free with the A7S.

It's not sharper than GH4 4K though is it? :D :D :D :D

Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100

Cheers. Yeah it absolutely is a go-everywhere one. Think how many photos we take with our phones and some of them are just lovely... now think how much better these would be from the LX100 :) -
Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Ah I see. Doesn't even have an HDMI menu, only a "TV connection" one. I think this is one of the victims of unnecessary feature culling to protect the GH4. Actually pros will use both, so there's no need to cut important "pro" features. Bit of a shame really. I haven't tried HDMI live out yet, just going off what others have said, that it isn't active. One way to do it would be WiFi, but you'd need to find a way to extend the range. How about flying it with the iPhone, and leading the iPhone out to an HDMI transmitter? :) -
