  1. Which makes you perfect placed to comment on the enthusiast subject at hand. I've shot with the 1D C. Type EOSHD 1D C review into Google when you have a spare moment. Really? A7S not better in low light? Hmm. No I think you'll find the ergonomics suck as well. Perhaps the most unintuitive camera for video I've ever shot with. Does your Epic have AF? Thought not. There's a reason for that. You have your facts wrong. ALL the Canon, Tamron and Sigma lenses have f-stop control and IS via the Metabones adapter to Sony E-mount.   I have seen the A7S's 4K projected at Pinewood Studios. I can tell you what it looks like. It looks superb and it is full frame 4K not 1.3x crop on a 2 year old sensor aka 1D C.
  2. I wouldn't bother, just get a Panasonic LX100 :)
  3.   Key word is "overall". Some facts my friend...   Sony A7S with a monitor on top kills the 1D C stone dead for image quality. 1D C is not full frame 4K. The active imaging area is barely any larger than Super 35mm in 4K mode, thus NX1 and GH4 with Speed Booster give a similar rendering of Canon full frame lenses The codec is from another time, when dinosaurs ruled the earth. 4K MJPEG takes up 6 times the space on my drive that H.265 4K does. Monitoring on the 1D C bare bones is a nightmare. No EVF, no peaking, in fact virtually nothing to help you focus The GH4 and NX1 can be used bare bones without a monitor, far more pleasing to shoot with The 1D C is $12,000... how many times do I have to mention ENTHUSIAST MARKET for you to get the point of the article? The 1D C's codec has banding issues at low ISOs The 1D C's sensor is rated barely 12 stops, the GH4 for 13 stops and the A7S for 14. So in that sense the raw stills aren't the best either   Like I said... Sony A7S with Shogun on top or 1D C with monitor on top just so you can focus... It's a no brainer. Image, usability, size, portability... everything is better on the Sony.
  4. If Canon announced that they were withdrawing from the enthusiast stills camera market, you'd be surprised. It's a pretty big market. But withdraw from the enthusiast video market they almost certainly have at the moment, whether they meant to do or not. Read the full article here
  5.   Why? Can't see the word 'DSLR' in it and E stands for electrical, O for optical and S for system. Sounds pretty relevant to me.
  6. I can't manually focus any of my lenses through the optical viewfinder of a DSLR.   I need an EVF for that.   I just switched from the 5D Mark III for all my stills work to an X-T1 and not regretting it. They are dead.
  7. The white balance isn't an issue when you're shooting raw. I can get that carousel right where I want it. Kinda nice to have in-camera raw editing before you upload to Facebook.
  8. Part 2 looks just at the camera. Almost no mention of Android or iOS at all.   http://www.eoshd.com/2014/11/panasonic-cm1-review-returns-just-camera-time/   Coming next on EOSHD... Why WINDOWS SUCKS BALLS!
  9. Although I found the CM1 mediocre as a 900 Euro smartphone compared to other high end smartphones like the OnePlus One and iPhone 6 Plus, I'll approach the CM1 purely as a compact camera that you can make calls on. This review has the focus on image quality and camera features. How does it perform? Read the full article here
  10.   No Apple snobbery here at all.   If you look at a selection of high end Android phones (which by the way are half the price of the Panasonic) they're all outstanding as smartphones by comparison. Better screens, more responsive, better build quality, better music quality, much thinner and above all nicer to feel and to use.   There's some superb Android stuff out there... Samsung S5, OnePlus One, HTC One M8, all half the price and doubly better as smartphones than the CM1!   If you haven't tried the CM1 vs the other high end Android smartphones you're not best placed to comment.   My review would have been the same if you substitute the iPhone for a OnePlus One. It's not 'Apple snobbery' to make clear where one device is superior over another. It's called 'reviewing'.   It just so happens the iPhone 6 Plus is what I use so that's my frame of reference... yours may differ.
  11. If you are getting crushed blacks, it could be a display calibration difference between my display and yours.   Even if I regrade it, it is gonna look wrong for someone.   I'll do a proper dynamic range test vs the GH4 and A7S.   I don't expect it to beat either of them but it beats the GH4 for colour and it beats the A7S for resolution with internal recording.
  12. It's clear phone criticism goes right to people's hearts, and that's a sad reflection of how far we've stooped in this world today :)   I'm going to follow it up with a review just of the camera.   Think of it as a camera with a sim card :)
  13. I think ffmpeg is what the other apps use anyway, just adds a GUI.
  14.   All ISO 200, didn't need to go any higher for this shoot at F1.4 and had the ND on for all of it. It wasn't a dark situation, plenty of light.
  15.   Yes it feels lovely. It's like a 1D C but with a modern codec, 1/6th of the file sizes, EVF, better ergonomics, flip-out screen, more adaptable lens mount, lighter and smaller, and only $10,000 cheaper.   Yet still people complain about the grading... because blacks happen to be black.  :D
  16. I have the Heliopan vari-ND and it's a cut above the rest. Zeiss optics apparently.   I think this colour filter needs a closer look...
  17. Spec specs spec... what about usability? What about feel? What about music quality? This is everyday stuff guys. This phone doesn't get it right. Until you have had one in your hands you just won't understand.
  18. In my first shoot with the NX1 I only had the rather cheap and cheerful kit zoom on the camera. That doesn't go any faster than F3.5. I've since been buying adapters and have found the Sigma ART lenses to be a perfect match for the Samsung NX1 in 4K. The video footage above was shot very quickly but it should give you an idea of just how superb the NX1's 4K video really is. Fantastic detail, colour and overall feel. Read the full article here
  19. If you look at how the CM1 stacks up against other Android smartphones, it's also piss poor.
  20. Worst review ever / thanks for the review... Are you two people under one account? :)
  21. Hmm just a guess but you might be an Android fan!   Look I don't deny it can't be a cutting edge mobile OS for certain devices especially those from Samsung, but it doesn't have the same user experience as an iPhone.   That you can't even visualise my idea for Panasonic, tells me that you don't really mind the tacky lack of visual appeal on the Android platform either.   Have some imagination.   A powered case that happens to have a 20MP 1" camera in it, clips to the back of the phone same as the extra juice cases do. That way I get to keep iOS and I get a better camera... and it would still end up thinner than the CM1
  22. Panasonic have just released the best smartphone available for sensor size and image quality. A limited retail launch is underway now in Germany and France with the UK to follow by Christmas. Against the backdrop of a run of hits from Panasonic like the GH4 and LX100, the CM1 unfortunately is the one that got away. An inadequate replacement for your existing high end smartphone, even if you value the camera side. Read the full article here
  23. Yes 24p 4K is in the latest firmware update. ND filters - no internal, you'll have to get a vari-ND and screw it on.   Best ones are Heliopan and SLR Magic's new one. Both have hard stops.
