  1. There is no pixel binning, not sure where you got that from - the 4K is a full pixel readout from 6K sensor. The 8bit RAW is not a major flaw, it's a major bonus. Try getting that out of an A7 III type for same price. No doesn't exist. The results are incredible. You just need to look beyond the bit-depth and trying to break the image. The fixed screen, lack of EVF and no mechanical shutter make the Fp the size it is. If these features are important to you, then you may be better off with a larger camera. You can add the loupe to the Fp LCD to make it into an EVF though. Who is the camera for? Anybody who wants a small affordable full frame camera with superb video features and image quality.
  2. I have the 35mm F0.95 from them on my X-T3. Lovely lens. Would like to try the full frame version for sure. It's between that and the 65mm F1.4 for the GFX at the moment. Weighing up which one. Maybe they can send me both for a review if I ask nicely enough
  3. I see. But is it bayer RAW, can it be recorded to a card, or doesn't the SDK / LSI handle it?
  4. https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-high-quality-camera/ Specs here imply it does output RAW? Sony IMX477R stacked, back-illuminated sensor, 12.3 megapixels, 7.9 mm sensor diagonal, 1.55 μm × 1.55 μm pixel size Ouput: RAW12/10/8, COMP8 Back focus: Adjustable (12.5 mm–22.4 mm) Lens standards: C-mount, CS-mount (C-CS adapter included) IR cut filter: Integrated Ribbon cable length: 200 mm Tripod mount: 1/4”-20
  5. 1/2.3" is like a Pentax Q, and some people like @Mattias Burling can show off what that sensor can do pretty well. A small sensor doesn't mean a bad image. D-mount lenses have a character all of their own. I think we'll be seeing more sensor sizes, more modules, more mounts in future... And an exciting explosion in at-home camera building and image processing. If you combine something like Magic Lantern and Digital Bolex, with rapid prototyping for body designs and nice ergonomics - wooden grips, and so on, you have the recipe for a very usable DIY cine camera indeed!
  6. Thanks Paul I would like to try the Mitakon 65mm F1.4 on medium format, probably has unique look as well. That lens is £600 and probably worth a look for GFX owners.
  7. Got a link? Do you mean an actual EVF or a loupe over the back screen? The Canon is more painterly and unique to everything else, there is no comparison with anything contemporary. It's even dramatically different to the Leica Noctilux 50mm F1. The Mitakon I have seen a review of and it looks nice, but looks more like the modern Leica Noct F0.95 than the Dream Lens in terms of the rendering. The Canon also has a glow and diffusion of light around specular highlights, which is very rare to see.
  8. No it isn't blocked by RED. Blackmagic have internal "RAW" with BRAW. Sony can do something like that but can't / won't / haven't got the imagination, Actually my guess is they have stopped trying judging by the NAB announcement Powerpoint today.
  9. Looks like Digital Bolex might be getting a reboot after all!
  10. Indeed, the feature that nobody needs but everyone seems to go ape-shit over! Have you seen the fuss over the EOS R5? 8K is to be seen to be leading the technology race. I bet half the YouTubers with their mouths wide open in amazement will never use it, but for marketing purposes the higher numbers just have to keep on rolling in.
  11. Let's face it... Sony heard about the Canon EOS R5 and sent it back to the drawing board didn't they?! I'll be surprised if we see it at all. New blog post
  12. The great thing about the Fp is that it is plug-and-play, and works with Macs, and even smartphones whereas the Canon DSLRs are Windows only and the software is beta. Yes, it would be nice to have more support for USB video class connections on future cameras, as Sigma has pioneered.
  13. Yes and one of the spectators giving the McLaren boss coronavirus!
  14. Great for news crews then, maybe finally they can stop shooting everything with their phones! 😁 I will have to try it out in more depth. So far, it's a new thing to me. A way to share some footage of me crashing at Monza with a couple of friends! By the way those monitors need to be driven at 165fps (165hz) each by the graphics card. It cries for mercy during every race

    RED Komodo

Yes plus they get to sell some EOS R lenses to RED users. And I am sure there is profit in the sensor supply too.

    RED Komodo

Could be, something is going on! Question is why would Canon do it, what's in it for them? They are fierce competitors with Cinema EOS vs RED digital cinema cameras.

    RED Komodo

Canon practically pioneered large CMOS sensor manufacturing. They did not suddenly become a cutting edge sensor manufacturer!! It's just that they have been sleeping whilst they upgrade the facilities. New factories in Taiwan. New fabs capable of more modern designs. It is a major advantage they have over the competition. Everyone else has to buy Sony sensors! Canon make their own and always have. Compressed RAW internal on Canon DSLRs. RED with EOS R lens mount. A sensor supply. What next. Canon buys RED outright?!
  18. You need up your bitrate and resolution to avoid compression artefacts. Try shooting Long GOP as well instead of ALL-I.
  19. It's a really great camera right now, feature packed. Yes, LOG would be nice and I am 99% sure it's coming, but I wouldn't be hesitant to use it in the V1.0 state it is in.
  20. I will try mine. It is usually a bit marginal on Olympus bodies. The XL fits on my E-M1X though so maybe we'll have some joy on the smaller cam. I would see if you can go for an E-M1 II on eBay for a bit more BTW, it's worth it.
