  1. A pretty good launch video. I may have to order it.
  2. This thing poses a dilemma for me, because the day it gets announced, my Mavic Air turned up! The image seems good in 10bit D-LOG from Bloom's video. The Hasselblad 'colour science' and association is pure marketing trickery by the looks of it though. What do you guys think? Return Mavic Air and get this?
  3. Some nice close-up pictures here at ePhotoZine. There is already a cage https://www.ephotozine.com/article/nikon-z6-z7-hands-on-preview-32618
  4. A top LCD Is great for video, it takes all that clutter OFF the main LCD. It's very nice on the X-H1 to glance at the aperture, shutter, settings, etc. without having them sprayed all over your picture. The 10bit 422 HDMI is nice but I can't see myself using it much. 8bit is enough for me as long as it's a good codec. Z6 will vie with A7S III for video crown of 2018. A7 III will continue to be close and have widest range of lens possibilities both native and adapted...but it is just not quite as good as the Z6 or upcoming A7S III. For a first gen camera it's pretty good straight out of the gates, remember Sony have had years to build up to the A7 III and A7R III... Nikon came straight out and are competitive to the point of possibly even bettering the mirrorless market leader. What's wrong with the Nikon D850 batteries?
  5. I hope if it is more expensive than the already very expensive Sony RX1 II, then it is actually BETTER and not just a cash grab. Or high-value added... as a marketing department would say! It should have a better Zeiss optic if so...as the RX1 lens has been around a long while now... It's a great lens, but the AF mechanism is clunky as is the manual focus ring. I love the RX1 and RX1R II though... Not perfect, but two of my all-time favourite stills cameras and the most fun to use Sony. Oh and 4K would be nice. Otherwise, I will just stick to my Sony! Will be interesting to see what job Zeiss do on the ergonomics. German companies tend to be very minimalist, which is a good thing. Leica. Zeiss lenses have tended to be superb ergonomically and build quality wise as well... Innovative touches like the OLED panels on the Batis range are a good sign they know what they're doing in 2018.
  6. How are the specs worse than the Sony A7R III? Apart from the card slot... everything else is either better or same.
  7. Just a few hours ahead of the launch, we now know the first video specs for one of the new mirrorless cameras from Nikon. The Z6 and Z7 will both feature 4K video. N-LOG has been confirmed for the Z6 and of course should be in the higher-end Z7 as well. Hopefully the traditional Flat profile will be maintained as well, for those looking for something easier to grade. A very positive development is that the camera is confirmed to have a 10bit 4:2:2 HDMI output, a significant step up from the Nikon D850. Read the full article
  8. I feel like they have sat on one of their best and most enjoyable to use cameras for 4 years, refusing to up-date it when Sony was updating their rival (RX100) every year. And then they finally update it and make it worse! Worse 4K crop! The GH4 sensor (or very similar) was in the LX100. Why put a low-end camera sensor in the successor and not the GH5 sensor, which would be in keeping with the previous strategy. And as others have pointed out, obviously the lack of other significant changes is really off-putting.
  9. Nikon borrowed from the world of advanced mathematics for the design of the mirrorless camera badge. Read the full article
  10. Imagine the GH5 screen. Exactly the same when folded flat against the body, but a bit taller. Except it unfolds and is now double the width, and OLED.
  11. It's better to keep it as it is in-camera and tweak it in post to your linking (either up or down, both fine)
  12. Two new screen technologies are coming to the market which could revolutionise cameras. Read the full article
  13. I guess it will have the X-H1 IBIS system, right? What's the rumoured release date? Photokina?
  14. Fuji film simulation in 10bit. Yes please. I bet the AF will be pretty handy as well. Still enjoying X-H1. Personally I would be tempted to wait for the update to that rather than X-T3 though.
  15. Nice. Did you get it used or new from the guys in the UK?
  16. Comment on the New York Times piece says it best: "Reading this comment board makes me sad for America. We used to hail our successes and revere exceptionally productive people. Anyone who has driven a Tesla knows it is a marvel of modern American engineering. Just putting that car on the road is a stunning accomplishment. But Elon Musk also has a thriving rocket company, is building the world’s largest battery factory, was a founder of PayPal and has dozens of other accomplishments to his name. In today’s America, that’s a reason to be ridiculed and despised. The Internet has destroyed this great land — giving every citizen a forum to anonymously expel their most venomous bile. I wouldn’t blame Musk for selling out to the Saudis. They wouldn’t put him through the insufferably inane garbage that gets flung at him in this country."
  17. Required reading! https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/16/business/elon-musk-interview-tesla.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news https://www.thecut.com/2018/08/azealia-bankss-feud-elon-musk-grimes-explained.html So Tesla has some unnecessary side-battles to fight now, which I am sure the oil and established auto industry will use against their biggest rival. It's important for the whole damn planet that Elon Musk achieves his goals at Tesla and at SpaceX. Vital for humanity. People simply cannot get their heads around this. They are constantly gossiping and looking for ways to bring him down. Sure he's overworked. Yes, on sleeping pills. Maybe he even has a girlfriend (musician Grimes) who may not be the most stable presence (personally, I like her!). Yes, he may well have been on acid when he made the tweet about securing funding to take the company private at $420 a share. Who cares. People need to look past all this gossip, even the possible breach of the law, and give the guy a break. Imagine our city streets with no pollution and breathable air. Imagine a home on another planet, ready to continue humanity after we fuck up this one. Every investor in Tesla should let Musk concentrate on his health away from the extra pressure of lawsuits.
  18. It's not going to be a Pocket camera once it's rigged up with a battery. I do wish Blackmagic could work on their power economy issues. However such great codecs and raw have a cost. I'd rather have 40 minutes of battery and some spares, rather than no option at all for ProRes and raw on a new, exciting camera to compete with the establishment.
  19. Yeah, I am not surprised with $1000 price tags. There are far more than three. Toshiba, although now under Sony's ownership. TSMC, the third biggest contract chip maker in the world. http://www.tsmc.com/english/dedicatedFoundry/technology/cmos.htm Panasonic have large sensor CMOS fabs. And furthermore, once you look beyond to the fabless chip designers, you have many many other sources who can design custom CMOS sensors, like the one in the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6K. Samsung actually have a close relationship with Sony on image sensors and have put Sony CMOS sensors in their smartphones alongside their own.
  20. Of course you don't have that problem with EOSHD Pro LOG at ISO 200 (*hint hint*)
  21. With the number of Galaxy handset shipments stalling since 2013, Samsung has been looking to raise prices on their high-end handsets to offset the plateau. The company has suffered dramatic losses of market share in China to cheaper rivals as a result. Now there are rumours Samsung is looking 'beyond the galaxy'... Read the full article
