  1. I expect the inflated prices of cards will last as long as this current covid era lasts. As there a lot of factors which have caused the high prices, but a major major factor is that covid messed up supply chains around the world (leading to greater costs of manufacture and delivery, and lower supplies) and that lots of people have been stuck at home (thus more inclined to splurge out on home entertainment, such as a new gaming PC, rather than spending that same money on an overseas holiday instead). None of what I just mentioned will change completely until covid is behind us. People won't tomorrow suddenly shift their spending from buying gaming PCs to going on overseas holidays. Neither are these supply chain screw ups and manufacturing issues going to resolve themselves speedily. Now for your question, will this ease up within the next six months or not? I can't answer that, but I think this Star Trek meme sums it up best:

    Which Monitor to Buy?

Do you need HDMI loop through? If so, the Portkeys has it. Atomos and SmallHD do not which is their major downfall for me. The LH5P is a nice monitor and I use it for gimbal work. It’s nowhere near as easy to use as my SmallHD 702 Touch as that has a great menu system compared to the average one on the Portkeys but the image of the LH5P is nice and bright enough for outdoor use. I also like being able to control my Pocket6K pro from the LH5P screen. Means rarely having to touch the camera when on the gimbal. I think the LH5P is the one to get of the monitors you mentioned and you will get used to the clunky menu system after a bit of use.

  3. Why would you choose the Pocket 6K over the 6K Pro at this point? $500 for internal NDs, tilt screen, larger battery, and the ability to add an awesome tilting EVF.

  4. I think that should replace the current description of Moore's Law!

  5. I'm using Adobe Premiere. Occasionally After Effects for motion graphics. For editing my own footage, my current machine is mostly fine because I'm shooting Prores (Z Cam). I started off more as an editor, so I tend to prioritize edit-friendly cameras for my own purchases. However others don't do this so much, and the latest gen of cameras (R5, A7sIII, C70) are going to be a much bigger strain for editing supplied footage. I'm not always editing my own work either - I've just started as lead editor an 8x22min series and the footage supplied is a mix of Red, Blackmagic, GH5 and GoPro. This is going to be tough for my current system, though thankfully I'm not having to deal with those latest codecs just yet. I'm trying to avoid proxies for this one as we'll be bouncing projects around between editors quite a bit, and I don't want things going offline constantly when switching between different machines.
