I am listing my favorite kit on eBay.  I trust their system and this way you can all see that I have an excellent track record with selling and buying items on the intertubes!  Below is a modified version of the ad, but I will post photos here as well.  ORIGINAL AD:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/201485785255?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

-------

This is my pristine version of a Kowa 35 Prominar 1.5x squeeze anamorphic projection lens, complete with four, Canon FD taking lenses.  I actually bought this lens on this very forum and have loved every second that I got to use it.  I like to call this my "Kanon Kit".  It's perfect for small, indie creators who want that anamorphic look, but are always stuck with ONE focal length.  Who can make a film that way?  NOBODY!

Here's an example of a piece I shot at night with this very kit.  https://youtu.be/ybHvvAwK4Ho

I'm selling this kit because I've decided to move away from using anamorphic in my work.

INCLUDED IN THIS PACKAGE ARE:

  • KOWA 35 Prominar
  • RedStan custom rear (55mm) and front filter (72mm) clamps by redstan.com
  • Canon FD 24mm F/2.0
  • Canon FD 35mm F/2.0 (Thorium Concave version)
  • Canon 50mm F/1.4
  • Canon 85mm F/1.8
  • Pelican Storm Case
  • Canon FD to EOS Fotodiox adapter
  • Canon FD to Micro 4/3 adapter
  • Focus gears for each Canon lens by followfocusgears.com

THE KOWA:

This Kowa flawless!  No balsam separation, haze, fungus or scratches.  It is the sharpest projector converted lens I've ever seen and could easily compete with an Iscorama in clarity and character.  Best of all, it has the same flaring qualities as the famous Kowa anamorphic cinema lenses I've used in the past.  Beautiful and warm with purple/pink flaring.

It's closest point of focus is 5 feet, but with the 35mm or 24mm lenses, I have gotten it down to about 2 feet.  Not bad!

PLEASE NOTE:

  • It is a DUAL FOCUS system (easily remedied with SLR Magic's Rangefinder adapter)
  • There are some barrel reflections with light that is too bright & direct.  (Easily overcome with longer focal lengths.)

THE REDSTAN:

These front and rear clamps are custom machined out of aluminum and anodized black.  They are for this lens and this lens only.  My guess is this clamp and lens combo are the only one of its kind in the world.  It's tough, a perfect fit for the Kowa and should last a lifetime of use.

It's front clamp is 72mm and it's rear clamp is 55mm, so that it fits directly onto the canon lenses.

THE CANONS:

They are all clear of scratches, fungus and haze.  They have no cleaning marks and the coatings remain intact.  The bodies have been very well kept and remain fully functional.

These were sourced to make changing the taking lenses as fast as possible.  All but one lens has a 55mm filter thread and alignment notch, making changing between lenses very fast compared to other DIY kits on the market.  Alignment is a snap, and the only lens that requires a step up ring is the 24mm.

I also chose the Canons for the purple coatings which enhance the Kowa's purple flares and don't compete with them.  I have been very happy with the results.

My favorite, and rarest of the Canons, are the 35mm Thorium variant and the 24mm F/2.  Alone, these two lenses are phenomenal.  So sharp and fast!  The bokeh is some of my favorite out of any vintage lens and the 24mm is fast even by today's standards.

PLEASE NOTE - The widest focal length that you can use with this Kowa are:

  • 50mm for full frame
  • 35mm for Super 35
  • 24mm for Micro 4/3
  • I have gotten the 24mm to work on my Blackmagic 4k WITH the Fotodiox FD to EOS adapter.  Results may vary depending on the camera and lens combo.

BONUS:

I might be willing to throw in my four Canon FD to EOS conversion kits by Ed Mika, a $400 value, to sweeten the deal if the auction goes high enough.  These allow you to permanently change the FD mount to EF.
