The g85 has worse hd?? i also love the g7’s hd, and I usually shoot in it and shoot 4K if the workflow feels worth it. The hd has plenty of detail and it’s definately on par with gh2 and gh3 except the 60p codec is a little low. Still grades better than I would expect.

Wish the z cam e1 didn’t sell out. It got hacked to shoot at 100+mbps.

Exactly. And their isn’t really much competition from other companies that deliver what the g7 does. Sony a6000 is overheating 1080p. Canon m50 is more expensive with nice 1080 but useless 4K and bad assist features. Em10iii maybye?? But no flat profile on it. The g7 IS still a good value, even if the g85 is technically better.

G85 is better, but g7 is not terribly worse like you keep saying. IQ is identical, noise is identical, ergonomics is identical. IBIS and weather sealing are nice but certainly not necessary

That’s what I’ve been doing. People on reddit keep saying it’s useless but it’s not that hard to get color right. If the skin is too orange I just use hsl and shift it more toward red/pink.

Exactly. The g85 is better, but the g7 is still great, 3 years later. Does lowering contrast increase dynamic range or just artificially lower contrast on he g7? I’m shooting flattened natural but debating if it is worth it over stock settings. I know that but it’s not like ibis will save you then. Use a gimbal or steadicam

Sometimes saving more makes sense. Imagine being a 13 year old who wants to start filmmaking and cannot afford anything more than a g7. Then it makes sense

Well if you can’t afford the extra for the g85 the g7 is still great. Same iq, same great ergonomics. Your acting like the g7 is crap. When bought used its waaaayyyy cheaper than the g85.

Get a canon 5d mark II with magic lantern raw and enjoy canon color

Depth information would be sweet. You could put a versatile but slow zoom lens on for cheap and use the depth information to simulate f 1.4 dof. I would love this

Yeah used it might be the best budget filmmaking camera. Even brand new it might not be as good as the gx85 or g85 but it is still a “good deal” does the em10 iii have a decent profile for grading?

The g7 can be bought used for $300-350. That is a steal for what it is. Gh3 1080p plus gh4 4K for 300 bucks! New though I would recommend a used g85. The g95 is crap with 8 bit vlog.

Honestly the 1080p is pretty good despite the low bitrate. Definately gh3 level to my eye.

Is after effects and premiere pro cs6 still relevant? You can buy that software standalone without a subscription.

A7iii is a decent option. Z6 also. Eos r has fantastic 1080p (c100 like oversampling in crop mode) plus best in class af. It doesn’t have IBIS, but eis is good. Fuji xt3 however probably has the best 1080p quality to price ratio that meets your requirements (other than ibis.). I think it oversamples. Ibis isn’t he be all and end all. With practice I get stable handheld shots with my g7, and it has no ibis and my meike 25mm 1.8 has no stabilization. Just use a camera strap.

Camera compamies frustrate me with RAW video. They could easily give cdng to the card. Magic lantern gave us this with the 2009 canon 50d. It’s not rocket science people. Instead, in the name of $$$ we get to pay $500 to shoot a limited, compressed version of raw that only works in a specific NLE. Not only that, but we don’t even know when it comes out.
