To change the subject from overheating cameras how do the Sony A series perform in cold weather? I'm talking "not being able to feel your fingers "cold. I have used my DSLR down to -23F with no problems (though I'm sure that's below it's rated temp range). Ted

So the 4K/120p is limited to 30 minutes? Does that make it unusable for many of you? Ted

Curious of what lenses you use with the Zcam for your wildlife? I'll be using a EF 600f4II, EF 300f2.8II and a EF 100-400f5.6II and only do birds (the 15 crane species to be specific). My experience doing wildlife stills professionally is it's 99% waiting for something interesting to happen and 1% action. I understand about your concern about missing something but what I do is fairly predictable ( I work with these birds daily). I see you're from SE Minnesota. Do you by chance know Neil Rettig? He is working on a project now that I've been able to assist him with. Nice guy and has some great stories.

Curious why you think the overheating issue will be a problem for wildlife? I'm new to this but what I've done are very short clips when the animal does something interesting or maybe a fly-by. I'm lucky if they last a minute. I would think the autofocus of this camera sets it apart from everything else. Ted

I work for a conservation organization. The long term time-lapse is of our prairie restoration. I also study sandhill and whooping cranes and use the video features for them. Attached is an image of the time-lapse set-up.

I've been using the Camdo BlinkX with GoPros for a timelapse that has been going on for over a year. They also sell a waterproof enclosure for it. Not a cheap solution but it's been working great. https://cam-do.com/products/blinkx-time-lapse-camera-controller-for-gopro-hero5-6-7-8-cameras It's connected to a voltaic battery and solar panel. With a large memory card I only have to check it every other week. It's taking one image every minute, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. You can schedule it to shoot video too. Ted

If not the EOS R then what camera? Serious question and I'm open to any brand. I'm a stills wildlife photographer. The organization I work for is pushing me to do video also. The lenses I have are a Canon 600 f4 II, 300 f2.8 II and a 100-400 F5.6 II. I recently got a loaner EOS R from CPS and rented a Ninja V. I was happy with the image I got from the combo (miles better then the 80D I borrowed to learn on). The 4K crop is actually an advantage for me because the 300 f2.8 is much easier to handle then the 600 f4. I don't care about IBIS because I'll always be on a tripod. I'll never use it for stills because I have 1 and 5 series cameras for that. I'm not too impressed with the EOS R controls (compared to my other Canon bodies) but had no real problems with them. RS is a concern but didn't see any issues with the testing I performed. I want an EVF instead of an OVF for panning flying birds (tried that using the back LCD on the 80D and the 1DXII and it's no fun). So if any of you Canon haters can suggest another option I will definitely consider them. It HAS to be able to autofocus the above lenses as good as the EOS R. I can wait to see what the A7SIII is capable of (and the next possible pro EOS R) before purchasing if it's before fall of this year. Ted
