  1. What's the model of the LG monitor you mentioned? 32UD99 ?
  2. It's still not clear to me what's required for viewing HDR. The Ninja Inferno can do it but the screens on those aren't true 10bit as they are only 8+2 FRC (frame rate control iirc). Now I currently have a (3 year old) LG 27" screen that is also 8+2 FRC but I don't believe I can watch HDR content on it, or if I can I've been unable to find out how. I guess something extra is needed for compatibility with HLG / HDR 10 / Dolby Vision? I've got a RX480 graphics card which can output 10bit afaik, but how all these things play together for actually being able to view HDR (or not) is a bit of a confusing mess in my opinion.
  3. Hi @Andrew Reid could you just clear up when you said "Now, finally Sony (thanks to Sigma) has an answer to Dual Pixel AF for filmmakers, and indeed the broader photography community." Is this just when adapting lenses as I get the impression that native FE/E mount lenses already focus well on the latest cameras in video from what you said about the Batis lenses you used in the test? I'd already been considering selling my Canon lenses and getting some native Sony ones, though I'll be keeping hold of my Canon fit Samyang VDSLR lenses.
  4. Hi @Andrew Reid you mentioned "in the UK there are only about 4 quality online camera blogs remaining" I'm curious to know which ones you are referring to in case I'm missing out on any please?
  5. Looks like Canon have been giving free ones out to some popular YouTubers who in response have been saying how great it is for a vlogging camera. Strikes me as being rather expensive to get for vlogging. While it gives you a full frame sensor over the SL2/200D there aren't many full frame STM lenses for the quiet and smooth auto focusing. While it might work for those users for what they want, seems a bit disingenuous to be recommending it as the best option on the market.
  6. I thought HDR actually had 10bit as part of the spec? However a lot of TV and monitor makers (and now 8bit cameras) are advertising 8bit hardware as being HDR... If this is confusing to the kind of user who would frequent a site like this, it's going to be even worse to the general public and casual staff in big box electronic stores.
  7. I was hoping that it would have a fully articulating screen that comes out to the side (like Canon and Panasonic often use). The flip up above or down below screens you see on some other Sony cameras don't play well with mounting the camera on a tripod or having a mic in the hotshoe. Wonder if this is something they would also add to a potential A7S III. I was surprised to see they've added 2x usb inputs so you can charge and also plug in an intervalometer. Though the bigger Z series battery would also help when doing longer timelapses or video.
  8. Doh, of course it is, got thrown off by the scale. Shipping is stated to be end of October.
  9. This is the photo they have on the kickstarter project. I don't recognise that port.
  10. I've backed this, but there's been dead air for a couple of weeks now. Looking touch and go whether or not the funding target will get hit as well.
  11. Hi everyone, I've done a bit of messing about with video in the past and I've always done 2 pass encoding when rendering the video out. I was looking to move over to using Davinci Resolve and I couldn't find 2 pass encoding when outputting (typically just making stuff to go up on YouTube). Given the large file sizes that you can upload these days and the fact YouTube does it's own thing to the video file anyway, is 2 pass encoding a little redundant these days? Am I just better off using a higher constant bitrate and this is why Resolve perhaps doesn't have 2 pass encoding, or am I just being an idiot and unable to find it? How much sense does it make if I were to export using something like DNxHR and then using handbrake (or similar) to do a 2 pass render? Also am I mixing up encoding and render as terms, I feel like I might be....
