  1. Did you ever think, that the insane contracts in the industry maybe even might influence supply chain of types of parts?
  2. Such a shame they didn't go 6k and 4k 50 fps, with same compression data rate. Would have been more than cool. The little camera that is, but at the same time almost was. Makes we wonder if the hackers could do 4kp50 or 6kp50 this way.
  3. Only 24-30. I wonder why not 50/60? The high frame rate 3D stuff might become a thing, if auto 3D displays come out and go popular.
  4. Yeah, the island, and he still won't come over to visit me, or find me that job. I know life sucks, and you can't keep your word all the time, but integrity still means a lot to me. My grandfather was born a century before last. I kind of like the guy though.
  5. You're awfully positive on Red all of a sudden Andrew. What happened? I hated what was done to you. To Red. You could say the same about me, maybe more accurately.
  6. Lol! The tech came from another company I think, last decade, as a partnership. It's a looong time!
  7. When is this thing going to be released. I'm more interested in action and sports. It would be great if they had 4k+ modes at 50fps, and If they only could compress the raw frames into jpegs like Braw does.
  8. What I'm interested in as far as buying, is 6k/4k 50/60 Bayer, and some sort of good 16stop+ mode. How come the camera doesn't have either of those? That's good followup questions.
  9. What happened to the post 20 stop latitude of the year sensor years ago? We might as well go and buy a good Sony sensored camera for the price difference. They have HDR, global shutter and low light in their range. Why is Panasonic taking so many years on this one. Years and years and more so.
  10. Hmm, a little similar. The octopus, the end of a few companies?
  11. New definition of a red housing. Sort of reminds me of the housing of that new PC camera company, except they are white.
  12. Ha, ha. I've been around for a long time. And weak arguments, you just made one. For all we know, the guy could be somebody with vested interests trying to pain a picture to support his cause. So much for free speech, if it's jumped on here?
  13. Mate, he may not be some random dude, that's the point. He could be somebody less random pretending to be somebody else while he seeds comment. I get suspicious when I see absolutely new people turn up on issues and do this.
  14. OK. Now, 8 posts. Who is this, and has anybody looked up to see what the other 7 posts are?
  15. Andrew, isn't there protections for satire and comedy there too? I wish judges would preview stuff and chuck it out until it only covered stuff needed, then initiated mandatory counselling or mediation, then that failing, negotiation, then a limited court case, with long lead times and minimum cost of process, then limited damages for fair play, higher for unfair play. The judge also being able to see a case is unmerited in some way, or bullying, and award damages against the one bringing it at the start. Imagine if we could get rid of many court cases this way? If only the court could force lawyers on to low wages, and the same amount of money the other party could afford, when they sue poor people? Anyway, I see you had words there about Red, but were they fair comment or not.
  16. Andrew. I could see this coming up. Would it have been possible to write to the judge asking this to be chucked out with damages, as it was not in the right jurisdiction? However, now you have signed and done it, it's another thing. But I wonder how much damages could be claimed, as unlike a contract there doesn't seem to even be renumeration, and if the original complaint was actually without merit, then there would be little actual to claim except getting you to sign it in the first place. I wonder, but you need proper legal advice to determine. I wonder if Apple would be willing to fund you?
  17. How do you delete this Andrew? Andrew, why did you sign this agreement with Red. If you are in the UK, it would be a threat through a UK court. But if eoshd in some way is hosted or serves to the US, then that jurisdiction might be involved. But the issue is, this is so open ended. I would have seen a lawyer first, and it it wasn't valid, probably see somebody about suing them for trying to apply (effectively applying) pressure, and getting me to sign such a thing. I would look at the legitimacy of the claim and pressure. Lawyers use a lot of bluff, and boiler plate clauses, so you really need to see proper legal counsel to see what is valid. If I found things were actually not valid, I could complain to the governmental and representative bodies over this, on that basis. I think not enough people do this, which I would think might stop a lot of legal bluff out there.
  18. Hi Andrew. I think in America it might be that the person slandered or libeled has to prove what said isn't true, and in the UK, the person who says something has to prove it's true in court. Unfortunately the media and everybody has gotten on this American slant, filling the air with fumes like in the US, but it opens things up to litigation. So, it's too costly for either the big guys to disprove everything in the US, and too costly for the little guys to prove be things in the UK on court. I think the resolution in this sort of area, is to start suing everybody involved in issuing invalid parts of patents, and prosecute criminally where deliberate. This would give people motivation to take the process seriously. The law is written with leavers to make it work, unfortunately the leavers in patenting are far to lacking or burdensome, depending on which, in a way which suites people who are well financed. They need to change, but prosecution across the issuing of invalid parts of patents would do a lot overnight.
  19. Hi. Why not upscale it to 8kp60 from 4kp60 then? 8kp15, is equivalent to 4kp60 in data rate, why not do that, the chip supports it in HDR? It's a shame it's not half the size, genuine 8k and a camera phone. 8kp15 is a negative as far as a feature goes. They better off do it for real, or make a $300 camera phone with it for real (and dual hot swappable storage cards, and extra definable buttons). Now, unfortunately it appears that the 855 video section is too weak for this (but why limit the resolution)? But the chipset can ingress 48mp at 30 fps from a sensor, and maybe a 14 bit interface (though the consumer high res sensor usually tops out at 8-12 bit depth at those resolutions in highest video rate). Now flip that around, that's 48fps at 30mp, so doing an Arri, and close enough upscaled to 8kp50. As it can ingress that pixel rate, it likely also debayers it. Cineform is now open source, but Bayer version requires a user license. By splitting the processing up between the hardware encoder, GPU, CPU and DSP you could encode 8kp50 4:2:2 Cineform, preserve the Bayer values in it like blackmagic raw does, and output to a USBC or wifi ssd. However, there maybe a simpler way. You could use JPEG, JPEG xr or JPEG xl (if functions supported or if programming can be used to make up for missing functionality) and heif. Prores is doable. The old iOS app vizzygig used to use the still camera hardware to take video at 4k and higher, as a series of photos, this started when the iPhone was limited to fullhd video, in 4k days it was a lot higher than 4k. But, you could try this with any 855 camera phone with a suitable sensor. The interesting thing is that even the 835/845 were meant to connect to 32mp sensors. Could the cheaper 48mp sensor phones actually do 8k? Samsung has an 8k capable processor. Ironically their sensor isn't. But they have a 64mp sensor coming, with around 16 stops HDR. The funny thing is, when asking a sales person if they were getting the phone, they brought up a page with might have listed a Samsung processor. I sure hope there are two versions, and the international one is actual 8k. But, it well likely be a mistake.
  20. What happened to the second camera pair front and back they talked about? The website picture last year had one pair of cameras front and back like the demo. That's what is needed to reduce deficiencies in 3D filming.
  21. I'm trying to find a Sigma contact form to ask what fps and live modes the HDMI has. Also to suggest a firmware update to output on HDMI unaltered video downscaled to some mode, and binned resolutions for higher frame rates. I imagine you should get at least 720p24 binned.
  22. I take it back. News of a Foveon video sensor patent: http://thenewcamera.com/sigma-patent-new-foveon-sensor/
  23. Is there a hack to overclock the sensor to output at video rates on HDMI at 720p, 1080p or uhd? It would be worth buying a feild recorder to record this then.
