  1. Well I will sure as hell give the "not sure what too expect" aspect of the first one. I can see how that is better than the sort of predictable 2nd one. I can "Dig It" as they say. Remember I am old, but wise Grasshopper..
  2. I like the second one Way more than the first. I always loved to go to Turkey, but I have to admit as a White, Catholic, Christian person LoL, I never felt really comfortable there. The main reason I liked it is I LOVE to go to different countries and see different people. I Love to go down a road, street I have never been on just to see where it leads to, the sites it has to offer. But I, as I get older, am not a big fan of the fast scene cuts in the last one. Vertigo can set in when you get older on that kind of stuff. The first one well Meh. I was sort of looking forward to when it ended! I thought it was a mindless, confusing mess to be honest. My 2 cents. Looked more like a LSD binge than a movie! Yeah I am that old to remember LSD, and to have tried it, eh, several times!
  3. He has a Very good point. There is Always Alligators chomping at your ass if you want to be successful. If you want to lay on your ass in a Trailer Park, well obliviously you don't care. Now that is one Damn Good Video!!
  4. I have to agree with @jcs. If you don't get skin tones right, and I mean close to dead nuts right, even in dark areas, you might as well scrap the whole project. We, as humans, look at humans first in any shot, video, photograph. It is an instinctive reaction. "Fight or Flight" syndrome. And men and women look for different things in the scene. Human Nature.
  5. This the case I use and my HP 30" sIPS 2k monitor. It can hold 13 hard drives! Unit on top is a Blu-Ray read, write player from Lacie. My 16x19" Canon Photo printer on the right, Pro 100, Death Adder mouse, only way to go. And I use an OLD, like me, Microsoft ergonomic keyboard. Since I am a gamer also highly recommend one, when you get old like I am you will Regret Not using one trust me!!! I run with 32gig of memory also. But that is because I am a Gamer. You really Only need 16gig for Video. Where you need as many gig as you can afford is on the Video Card, GPU. Try for 6 gig, 8 gig if you are well, well off LoL. I have seen no real worth the effort for Dual Video cards with video editing. Now gaming, hell yes, bridged they work well at keeping your FPS at 60 or more.
  6. Like it or not I upgrade about every two years. But I build my own so it is not that much to do it cost wise. And I don't ever buy anything new, but used on Amazon like last years latest and greatest. Cost me around like 700 bucks to do it. Just buy a big ass power supply and a big ass case and that part last for hell years and years. You can mostly use your old hard drives, SSD's. Memory last 3 to 4 yeas before it is outdated. So pretty much just need different Mother Board, CPU, and a GPU to stay pretty much up to date. And if you stay with say Intel maybe even the Motherboard will still be usable with the newer CPU, GPU. They don't out date the CPU socket that fast. I have some new goodies here I bought last month to update. Been about 18 months ago since I last did it. Just haven't got to doing it. Went Intel this time. i7, 7700. Going to build a Hackintosh this go around. Really helps to use a Intel GPU to do it. I ALWAYS use MSI overclocked video cards. Best there is. Went with a 1070.
  7. YIKES!!! You know they do sell new stuff you can buy at times LoL! Yeah I understand. Trouble is when you upgrade one thing, you really Need to upgrade about Everything in the damn computer. That can get Damn expensive!
  8. I know one of Casey's friends uses a Red to Vlog with on his skate board. Crazy. But I guess if you have money out the butt why not!! And I don't really think Casey gets paid to use the cameras he does. He has knocked Canon cameras about as much as Anyone I have ever heard. I think it is because of the DPAF he used them mostly, that and the swinging LCD. I mean for that Booster Board he rides you need good AF out the Ass. What other camera is good at that other than the A6500 he switched too, and I think he only did that mostly for the 4k, that and the A7r mkII, and now the GH5 for the same reasons.. I think taking money from manufacturers would look like a total sell out to the crowd he attracts??
  9. Yeah just think how bad Canon's consumer cameras would be without Magic Lantern doing their thing to them. Christ!
  10. I would think he would come up with something lighter to carry though. A GH5 with a 12-35mm lens is not my definition of a lightweight outfit! He is probably using it because of the Stabilization I would imagine. Yeah @That Guy, he is a wizz at editing and the things he does. There is a video floating around a fan of his did that showed all the crazy things he does that no one else I guess even thought about using. I know one was where he puts his hand over the lens to stop a shot to switch to another view, instead of a fade or cut you normally do in editing. He is a Damn smart guy. Not counting the ability to be able to ride his Boosted Board and fly a Drone at the same time, and use his video rig on it also. Christ he is way more coordinated than I am, but that is not saying much LoL. This video explains some of what he does. https://filmpost.co/2016/08/editing-storytelling-techniques-casey-neistat/
  11. I can tell you he can make or break a camera. He has that many followers. So I am not too sure why he is using a GH5, He was using a Sony A7?? for 4k last month?? Maybe just tying it out to see how well it works AF wise. I know he is not going back to 1080p anymore. So that eliminates a lot of Canon cameras right there. Ehh, Nikon ones also. I have always been amazed how well his Drone footage looks, and he uses them a LOT in his videos. I think we underestimate how great they can look! I think most are shot in 4k though.
  12. If you go on DPR right now, there are probably less than 5% of the Canon shooters on there, that even want ANYTHING video realated to even BE on the camera, let alone use it! And I am sure as hell bet they pay more attention to DPR users than us on here. Or it sure as hell seems that way to me with what they put out products wise. They want US to buy a Canon C100 mkII, not a Canon 5D mkIV it seems. And hell I guess it is working. All bases covered. Smart of them.
  13. I have to add here, that i think we need to rethink this Filmic, Cinelike look in cameras in this day and age. Sure they look, well like film, but none of us on here are going to shoot film anymore, even s16 which had grain out the ass. It is now 2017. I think most of the viewing audience has grown up with HD TV and Smartphone LCD screens. They feel at home looking at a "Video" look. It is really all they know. People my age that grew up with film, well our race is over with or near to it. Sure it looks great, but the Average person is not going to be able to afford to shoot film. And hell I don't think it is that accepted in this day and age anymore to be honest. This is a YouTube generation more than a Vimeo generation. I think this new GH5 is the future like it or not. And what Sony maybe will bring out here at NAB to compete with the GH5. A few firmware updates and that camera will be able to get the job done. Is it a great form factor, well no. But can it do 90 percent of what a Camcorder can do, yes, and it can do things a Camcorder can't do because of its small size. I think it is a Win Win. It is the future right under our noses.
  14. Well I think the trick is with computers is to NEVER turn them off. I turn my Monitors off or down, but I never turn the machine off. Now laptops well no choice on that part. And probably the main reason, they never get to stabilize, they die, and they don't really last too long. Well if you are making a big time movie you Want a Alexa, if you are just trying to make a living you want a G7. You don't have the money to run a video camera that takes a crew to run it, you need a camera that pretty much runs itself! And truth be known the average person does not know or care what camera shot it as long as the story, plot, commercial is good. We really spend too much time worrying about the camera than we ought to worry about the shoot and the edits. We forget that not only cameras have gotten better so have LuTs and editing software has also. Now i guess if you get all three aspects going you have a real winner on your hands!
  15. Yeah My Panasonic AF100A is a total pain in the butt to take video with it, because there is No Auto anything, and every scene you have to White Balance, Black Balance, adjust F stops or use the ND filters, etc., etc., etc. It is crazy how hard it is, but when you get it all right, man it can look pretty unbelievable, just the way You want it, not what Panasonic wants. Now my Panasonic G7, you turn it on and shoot. You can have it on Auto everything. I guess if Apple made a camera this might be the one for the masses. It is almost prefect all the time. Run n Gun, Bamm, it works. But it looks videoish as heck. But if that is what you want it, it is easy as hell to do.
  16. I may give it a go also. Not going to get it done in one day that's for sure LoL. Hard to still find one of those cases that aren't scratch up. I would only want one that looked like they did new. I would like to keep the same look of the power supply though. Like one guy says, take the guts out of a new one stick in the old one. Might be a serious challenge to do it.
  17. I think the Rx10ii is too damn much money. Hell you can buy a Sony A7s for a bit more.
  18. Pretty crazy that you can't buy a Panavision DXL, only rent one.
  19. If you are going to use that monitor outdoors I would look elsewhere. It only has 400 NiT, and that is damn low for a monitor, common though at that price point. The specs on that do look pretty nice for the money. Have no clue about the lag. https://www.amazon.com/Bestview-Camera-Monitor-2200mAh-Battery/dp/B01NAMWXHN/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1489662621&sr=8-6&keywords=waveform+monitor Review of it. http://www.jwmfoods.com/best-selling-4k-monitor-of-lcd-monitors-2017.html
  20. Yeah after reading reviews of it I can see Vivid is Way over the top colors wise. And yeah its not a Arri DR wise. But I can see it is hands down the best action camera there is out there. Is the x3000 the lastest and greatest one Sony has?? I can see getting one myself for sure.
  21. Oh My God!! The X3000 just kicks the other two cameras Ass! Hell even the color is better. Look at the Sky on the X3000 Jesus. I think DR maybe even be as good. I Have got to get one of those!
  22. Well if you want to make a old Pro Mac case a PC here is about the best video I have found to do it. But not for the faint of heart!! http://build-its.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-to-fit-your-pc-in-power-mac-g5-case.html
  23. Yes, but can you put really big Power Supplies in them? Say in the 750 Watt range or larger? But i guess with SSD's now we probably don't Need 1,000 watt monsters anymore. Well talk about neat looking computers. This is my favorite one.
  24. Yeah I will give Apple credit, you can be totally "Clueless" and use their products! But that is a Good thing for the vast majority of the public!
  25. Other than gaming, I see nothing better on either unless you are into FCPX, good product, pretty easy to use, where you really Have to be using it on a Mac. Like others have said, it is just a tool to use to get to an end result. If you were a Mac person since high school, and can afford them, why would a person switch? I see no real benefit to doing so. But i admit i do like the satisfaction of building my Own computers, and since Mac got away from selling the beautiful Mac Pro aluminum desktop cases, I have sort of given up on them. PC all the way for me now. But I would like one to be able to run FCPX, as it is a damn good product, and ProRes is the output I best like to use. So, hmm, not sure LoL.
