  1. We must have had the exact same courier. In fact, it seems that you, me, and all the rest of the over hundred people complaining in the FB groups about scuffed and dented cameras were by the same courier. I am sure this has nothing to do with them re-using the plastic housing from pocket 4k returns for "brand new" pocket 6k bodies. I am also sure it has nothing to do with their shit packaging. No, this has nothing to do with that.
  2. Exactly, are you talking about s1h footage you have already on your computer or what you see on the web? Web video has a lot of compression, so you cant base it off that. I havent seen any on my source footage.
  3. Sweet. Thank you for communicating with them. I haven’t seen the issue yet, but I haven’t really shot low light yet and I only shoot 4:2:2 4K. Seems like it affects the higher res more so, especially with low light. But, just because I haven’t seen it yet, doesn’t mean it’s not there and I’m sure I’ll see it sooner or later. Let’s hope they are quick to fix this issue.
  4. Are we sure they know about it? If you or anyone has contacted them, can you share the best contact method so we can all flood their inboxes? I don’t need any internal noise reduction ever, if I want to use it I’ll do it In post. If it’s an option turn on or off, that’s best of both worlds. Panasonic needs to be near perfect with their full frame venture as their competition is stiff and they can’t afford this issue to linger and become more of a thing. Turn off noise reduction, put out a firmware update, let’s move on. End of Next year or 2021, put out an S2H with phase detect and then we are all happy campers and roasting marshmallows together and singing songs of celebration.
  5. Pretty cool fight scene shot on the S1H. Found it on Instagram via searching for s1h hashtag. The creator confirmed it was shot on the s1h and then sent me a direct link to the full YouTube video. Some weird stuff happening with the lens or something else here and there, but overall colors look good
  6. Have you thought about doing a beta system, even if paid? Some of us are ok with getting an decent version now and then getting updates as you go, instead of waiting. I’m interested in the S1H version, but I have projects now and hearing how many other things you’re working and how behind you are makes me believe I won’t get my hands on it anytime soon. But a good middle ground would be me paying and getting a version that isn’t perfected now, but with updates as you go.
  7. Understood and I’m not telling you to not rely on what you’re seeing. I was under the impression you were judging off some of the horrible YouTube videos from folks just pointing their camera and not knowing what they’re doing. We all have preferences, no right or wrong. Personally most people love the pocket 6k footage, but it doesn’t do it for me. Some don’t like the S1H but it does do it for me. Only thing I wish was that the S1H was in more hands so you could at least get a nice choice of videos to make a decision off of - as the pocket 4K/6k are in so many hands you really get to see people get creative and make some special work. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will get more out there. I’m working on a music video and will share when done. @hellium I was just giving a very brief and general statement that I don’t do anything special while setting exposure. I’m not giving a paid tutorial here, no reason to take what a random guy is saying on a forum as “risky”. I also have only had a week with it, so maybe I was better off giving no answer until I nailed my method down. For now I expose by monitoring my waveform, zebras, and making sure my skin tones are to my preference by using false color on my ninja v. Pretty straight forward and maybe ETTR was too vague/not accurate.
  8. Not even close. You’re feeling is almost the exact opposite of mine and you’ll have to listen to folks that actually have the S1H. The videos that have been uploaded seemed to be majority from the Asian market - who have a different style than the western market. The S1H looks better than the pocket 6k in highlight roll off, DR, and color. I owned the pocket 4K and the 6k. I had the pocket for a while and tested thrn6k for a week. I have been testing both cameras footage side by side in resolve during all my tests. Even motion cadence looks better to me. The short videos that Panasonic released are more of what you can expect if you know what you’re doing. There is shit RED footage as well. Don’t underestimate grading skill, proper shutter angle, proper vlog exposure, etc., and lighting. It can make a great camera look like dog shit. I’ll have some footage soon
  9. No trick for vlog - same process most of us know about (exposure to the right). But you’d be surprised how many people don’t do it accurately. For rec.709 LUTs the official Varicam Lut named “nicest” lives up to its name and is truly the nicest and best. I have not tried face tracking for video yet. But I’ll give it a go. This is the first run and gun camera that I’ve had that strikes all the boxes. Cinematic footage and colors, IBIS, compact, and shoots photos.
  10. They are different. The Micro nails a filmic look that none of these modern cameras achieve out the box. Its gritty, raw, and has a very organic feel to it. But, it doesn't have IBIS, does not shoot photos, shoot 4k, etc. The S1H has a very nice cinematic look to it as well, but it's not as "filmic" and gritty like the micro. Colors of the S1H still amazing though and I prefer the colors of the S1H more than the Pocket 4k/6k new color science (I owned both). With all that said, the S1H has so much going for it that my micro will only get used for certain situations and most likely not run and gun anymore. I have to use the micro on a ronin-s as there are way too many micro jitters hand held. Coming from Blackmagic and Sony cameras, I can't stress enough how unbelievable the IBIS of the S1H is, especially dual IS with their 24-105. There is no need for a gimbal unless you need slider like shots or walking shots. For stationary, short walks, pans, etc., there is no absolutely no need for a gimbal/monopod/shoulder rig, that's how steady it is. The footage looks incredible, especially if you know what you are doing and how to properly expose vlog and convert it rec. 709 with the proper varicam LUTs. More importantly for my decision to make this my main camera is that I take photos as well and the one thing I was pleasantly surprised about with this camera is how good the autofocus for photos is considering all the complaints. The autofocus for video is horrible, but I manual focus for video. But for photos, it was MUCH better than I thought after listening to everyone complain. Eye auto focus works great as well. Not as good as my A7R3, but still really good. Another thing I haven't heard anyone talk about is how fast it can switch between custom modes, for example I have a video mode on the dial and a photo mode that I switch between. Video mode has vlog, 180 degree shutter, different settings etc that I keep static and photo mode has none of that. When I switch between them it is seamless, no loading, no screen blackout, none of that. It is instant and quick and I can switch back and forth instantly. To me, I look at the cost of $4000 different than most. Unlike when I shot with a pocket 4/6k or even the micro - I don't need to carry a gimbal or shoulder rig, I don't need to mount a heavy v-mount battery on the back, I don't need an external monitor if I want to tilt or rotate it (I still do for the large screen, but its not necessary), and I don't need to bring a second body and lenses if I want to take photos. On top of all that - I prefer the video image over the blackmagic pocket 4k and 6k. It has a nicer highlight roll off, seems like better dynamic range, and I prefer the colors. All this without shooting RAW yet. I know that was way more info than you needed, but we are so lucky to have all these tools as filmmakers now days and this is the first camera in a very very long time that has me excited like this. I have owned or shot with the Canon C200, URSA Mini Pro 4.6k, Micro Cinema Camera, Pocket 4k/6k, Red Raven, A7R3, A7S2, A73. This is the first camera out of all of those where I can simply pack the camera and a lens and have what I need for a day of video and photos without a bag full of stabilization gear and photo gear mixed with video gear.
  11. Trust me, it looks great. I have been using it in many scenarios and it looks really good. But like I said, you have folks who dont know how to properly convert or grade log footage or are not even using log and aren’t shooting at proper frame rates or shutter angles, not using ND, and you are going to get a mixed bag of footage regardless of camera. The footage that I see on my computer is night and day difference from a lot of these videos on YouTube.
  12. It’s a fantastic looking camera. Unfortunately most the people uploading footage with it on YouTube (this video being the exception) have no clue what they are doing. From incorrect shutter angles, horrible rec 709 LUTs, no clue how to grade or expose, etc. I am blown away by the colors and look.
  13. Ah, my bad. Also wanted to check in and tell you that I tested the S1H focus peaking and it works as it should. There is no change or dimming when recording. The peaking remains the same and does not have the issue that the S1 seems to have.
  14. Yup, I am familiar, assuming you mean how the focus peaking dims after you hit record? I have not had that issue on the S1H - but just to make sure I am not crazy and spoke too soon, I will try when I get home tonight and report back with 100 percent certainty that this issue does not exist.
  15. I have an S1H and I have not seen any focus peaking issues. I only use manual focus lenses, so I would definitely notice. Camera is wonderful.
  16. Update: Here are my initial impressions. First off, these are first impressions - they can easily change as I get more real world usage. It could be a rollercoaster of emotions here on wether I am keeping it or sending it back, possibly changing my mind daily. $4,000 is expensive and with the A7S3 looming in the future, I want to make sure I make the correct choice. I will do my best to gather up some footage to share by the end of the weekend. Cameras that I own or have owned that I am comparing against: Pocket 4k, Pocket 6k, BMMCC, A7S2, A7R3. Build: I am a new Panasonic full frame user. I have never touched an S1/SR or even seen one in person before my S1H arrived today. I absolutely love the build quality and weight. I am not a fan of super light cameras, though I know some are, as I feel there is too much shake when handholding light cameras. The screen swivel, top status display, viewfinder, buttons, etc., all feel great. IBIS: First off, the IBIS is insane. I have never seen IBIS this good and though I am late to the party, I had my holy shit moment for sure. This was a very large reason I bought this camera (asides from its specs). I am a hybrid/ run and gun shooter. Taking my ronin-s with me everywhere is just not practical. I do this is a hobby, with light paid work here and there. I want to be able to do mostly handheld and this is the first time I have used a camera where I feel that is possible for me. It's truly remarkable how far ahead this IBIS in comparison to my Sony. I can't imagine how good dual IS is, as I am just using regular IBIS. Footage: Not going to lie, I wasn't expecting much. The promos were good, but they were big budget and used anamorphic lenses. The S1 has limited time with VLOG and is not a very popular camera to begin with, so footage from that is also lacking. But I was honestly...kind of blown away. The colors look fantastic and the highlight roll off is better than that of the pocket cameras. In fact, I like the colors overall better than the pocket cameras - obviously they have RAW out the gate - which is a huge bonus. I like the older Blackmagic colors better then the new ones so maybe its just me. Dynamic range also seems better to me over the pocket. I am really not trying to hate on blackmagic or create a fanboy war - but to my eyes the colors are a bit more neutral, dynamic range seems a bit more, and the OLPF creates a nice softness coupled with my contax Zeiss that is very pleasing. The motion cadence is also very "cinematic" in its movement, MUCH better than that of the GH5 which I hate. Grading was very easy as well. I was not expecting it to look this good and in the right hands, we should seem some fantastic short videos coming out soon. Hopefully I can have one out to share. Final Thoughts: The blue clipping issue is either fixed or will be fixed and I am sure the ghosting issue will be fixed as well. I did not experience any of these yet, but its just day 1. So far it checks off a lot of boxes for me. Internal 4k 4:2:2 10 bit full frame, IBIS good enough to not need a gimbal in most static scenarios (still need one for lots of movement/walking), good cinematic motion cadence with a subtle softness, great colors, good battery life and a swivel screen. I think like a lot of folks it seems like the perfect camera, minus the autofocus. If I do decide to keep the S1H, only an A7S3 with these specs or better coupled with great autofocus will make me part ways with it. But I am just not sure if Sony can match this IBIS or if they will give their new color science to the alpha series. We shall see!
  17. The camera was just released in the US today, so you really need to give it some time. Pocket 4k had garbage promo videos and took a long time to start getting good well thought pieces, so you need to at least wait more than 24 hours from release. I did think kepler was fantastic though and so was the bowling one. That wobble has to be in software warp stabilizer, none of the footage I have seen online has that happening. I received mine this morning and will put it though its paces. I had a pocket 4k and a pocket 6k. So I will be comparing to those as I still have their original files/clips on my computer. I will be doing all handheld shots with adapted lenses Contax Zeiss lenses. I will report my honest feedback and if the camera does not impress, it will go back. I have no horse in this race as I only use adapted lenses anyways, so I am not defending this camera blindly. But I will say the footage you linked is pretty much all wide shots, set at infinity, with not much of a grade happening. Most cameras with that won't look impressive. I just think it has not been in enough hands yet to expect great footage yet - especially since good projects take weeks/months. A lot of the folks posting clips up seem to have no idea what they are doing, as they dont even have the proper shutter speed. Give it some time.
  18. We have cameras that are unable to shoot internal RAW literally because of RED. You want to stop animosity against a company that is completely screwing everyone else over and suing people left and right? A company that made it so Blackmagic had no choice but to create their own RAW format and made companies like Panasonic, Sony, and Nikon all have to figure out ways to make raw external instead, which in turn makes the rest of us have to buy expensive external recorders and expensive SSDs? Seriously, no offense man - but you should probably quit telling people what to do and how to treat companies, especially companies that are making our work life more difficult and more expensive. Also, dont forget where you are - this is EOSHD, where the creator of the site is very critical of companies - which in turn pushes them to be better and to quit their bullshit. So in conclusion, please get off your high horse and realize that we shouldn’t bow down to big bad RED and let them push us around with their bullshit patent. And this “animosity” is very much warranted.
  19. I am thinking about going with this core swx battery, since I already use a smallHD focus. I would power the monitor and the camera from this battery, by going to the 12v of the camera from the battery. Do you think this would work? I read earlier in this thread of some concerns of powering a monitor and the camera the same time form the same source, but this seems to be a different type of config https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1475115-REG/core_swx_npf_shd_npf_l_series_style_pack.html
  20. Thanks Shijan. I hope we one day get to see that new 4k Fairchild sensor in a camera. I am sure it will look spectacular. I wish that is what pocket 4k used, instead of a Sony sensor.
  21. Not bad, better than the 20 minutes with a canon battery or having it shut off at random percentages.
  22. Yeah, that seems to be the best one at the moment. Though, I did see something that has peaked my interest. I have a SmallHD focus and I saw this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1475115-REG/core_swx_npf_shd_npf_l_series_style_pack.html?sts=pi&pim=Y Seems like I can power the smallhd focus and the camera with that battery above. I would just use DTAP to 12volt from that battery to the pocket 6k. The only thing is I have no idea how long the battery would last powering both the monitor and camera and can't find anything online.
