  1. Hey, just wanted to let fellow Bolex owners that the RAF mount is perfect. The 24mm rear (and rare) threading for the Bolex is .5 and it fits onto a 55mm filter thread of your taking lens. I had a problem with the initial unit sent because his engineer had the threading size wrong (probably .75), but he's such an awesome seller he sent me the replacement right away and told me to keep the bad one--I'll probably bore the threads out as it still has a side-screw option. Main point: test it right away!

    Here's the ebay listing:

    Cheers!

If you buy one fro an anamorphic filmer, the price is between 1500 and 2500 dollar for a real mint one. If you buy from someone who is cleaning the house and find one in cellar, it can be less than 1000 dollar. I recently saw a Iscorama for less than 500 dollar, actually sold for € 420,-. That one was only a few minutes at a local ebay-like site. I was a minute too late.

    Case in point, thank you.

But not to gloat, whoisjsd, I agree with 90% of your argument.

    Thanks for your help guys!

Waiting since days for being accepted in this Facebook Group, but still no answer.

Can someone tell me who is selling this lens there?

Sorry, I think the seller had to pull the sale because he may have been scammed on ebay buying an Iscorama. Will let you know if that status changes...

I think that's wishful thinking. While one DID sell for $1300 on ebay recently, it sold after 5 minutes of being listed. (I know that because I know who bought it.) One in good condition still fetches around $2000. There is a guy in the Facebook community that has a Mint one that is asking 2500 Euros.

I think $1600 for one that is in usable condition is a steal. Anything lower would have to be in really rough shape. Good ones will fetch around $2000 and I doubt that will go any lower in the future.

Wishful thinking if one is in a hurry. Like I said, if you (the royal, not actual) have time to wait and keep checking in, at least a couple will sell for less than 1.5K before the end of the year. And yes, this requires vigilance, as they absolutely do not sit long around long enough to get cold. But if you believe your time and effort are worth more than the $500 difference, by all means, buy it and be done with your search. Conversely, $2,500 Euros could be viewed as wishful thinking to those of us who 1) own one already, or 2) don't have that kind of money to begin with, but the truth is someone will even pony up that much if the need and means are both high enough. I used to fish at a lake house the same way: hook some old chunks of hot dog and toss them off the dock. The next morning, fresh catfish for breakfast. Probably a lousy analogy, but that's what $2.5K for a Bolex equates to in today's market.

  5. If you can join the Anamorphic Shooters on facebook, someone is selling one via PayPal for about 1,500 Euros. Kind of steep IMO, but I guess they're getting harder to find. If you have the time to wait for a decent deal, I think you can find one for $1,400 between now and the end of the year.

100% a Kowa. But you know what is even more weird? It doesn't come up in my search for Anamorphot on ebay. I never saw it until now. Only appears if I search Animex.

It's possible I stumbled upon the lens through the ebay.de or ebay.co.uk. Also, I could only ever find the lens again by searching my past bids folder. Anyway, seeing as it's still for sale, my guess is this seller should have just listed it for one price and spared everyone some time and rejection by offering anything less. Fucking sadist. ?

You're literally toxic and have no life then dude. I already explained to you why that happened. It really isn't that big of a deal, but I really don't give a shit. Who are you to tell me shit? fuck out of here weirdo.

    Fucking losers.

Actually, I really don't care that much. Cheers! :D

@Liszon @PepperJay I'm going, to be honest, there is no reason for this to bother you. The only reason this happened is that I was told to revise my original listing and for some reason, my old one(s) were still approved.

If this is something that really bothers you, you need to reevaluate because it isn't that big of a deal.  tbh about to sell anyways

I'm glad you were honest, but you were incorrect in stating there is no reason for this to bother me. In addition to the GFS forum, you also solicited the same lens in this forum twice, and to be honest, it actually bothered me (without your consent and/or acceptance). "Approval" has nothing to do with where you post--I'm just asking you to post in the correct forum; after all, if you go back a couple of years, you'll see that was the reason for creating a separate forum for buying/selling in the first place. Respect that or expect to get hassled. If that is something that really bothers you, perhaps you need to reevaluate your entire life, because to defend yourself when you are clearly in the wrong is much worse than making a simple mistake in the first place.

At this point you have two choices: STFU or bring it on--I'm good with either.

  10. Yes, I was curious, too. I expect the signature (for better or worse) blue flares, but was particularly interested how it compared to the Century or Panasonic 7200 in terms of focusing quality. For about 5 C's out of the gate, I kind of expect it not to suck.

As a side note, I'd also love it if they ever pushed some 1.5x to 1.75x glass into the prosumer market. Maybe optional blue coating, if anyone is listening??? (*crickets*)

  11. The haze and starburst I'm not sure about (blade-related?), but the main flare seems to be consistently askew at about 30 degrees. The white vignetting looks like typical barrel reflection. As a test, I'd try a black lens hood of about 1-2 inches in front of the lens after you find a shot that can recreate that original problem effect. If it the white is there, consider darkening the end of the barrel and lens edge itself (if possible).

  12. I agree with sending it back if the option is still there. If you got a deal too good to abandon (namely free), mark the positions and open it up yourself, but given the prior opening signs to the rear, my amateur opinion is that it is indeed a separation between elements and in need of a new cementing (and probably not worth the price).

  13. Hey Jason

I am also disassembling my Iscorama atm and i am wondering if you could tell me how you get off the part in the middle of your picture. I was able to losen the two from the right but now i cant see a mechanism for the middle part... and I am too afraid to use force.

    Hi, ******,

I probably won't be of much help to you because I didn't keep it around long enough to study the mechanics (sent to VD a few days after--a decision I regretted immediately after I shipped it), but I'll tell you the little that I remember.

As you probably read in the thread, I got it back from the shop after they worked on it for a few days trying to open it up from the front (hence the damaged Iscorama identifier ring). In the process of trying to loosen everything, they flooded the entire internals with oil, figuring they'd be able to clean it all out after. After finally removing the ring, they found that they couldn't get past the 1st focusing ring retainer (w/ the four screws facing front), so they packed it up and sent it back.

After I got it back, I simply twisted the lens halves back and forth without expecting anything to happen but found that it immediately split apart (1st two from left in photo from last three to right). I don't know if it split apart completely or if I had to unscrew the back two rings (from right side of photo), but I remember they were very easy (probably due to all the oil) to unscrew by hand at that point, and that I actually twisted it back on and managed to lock it back.

Fearing that I somehow blew my one chance to open it and examine the damage, it took me about 5 agonizing minutes before I was able to unscrew the main halves again. At its widest point, it kept hitting an internal catch, but by pulling and squeezing it in different directions whilst rotating, it somehow bypassed the catch again and I unscrewed it into the five parts you see in the photo. Again, it's possible I unscrewed the rings on the right by hand either earlier or definitely by then.

Again, I wish I had had at least a couple of hours with it, but as I was in the middle of other things, I made the decision to just ship all the parts to VD and hope they'd be able to convert it, cleaned and all. But here's probably my only worthwhile thought on the subject of opening it up: if I were designing these lenses, I'd build approaches from both directions, the 1st being to get to the main elements from the front, and the second from the rear. If I were you, I'd leave the front alone and focus on unscrewing the rear retaining rings, after which try to somehow bypass that catch that for me, at least, was a bit too easy to unlock. Had I more time, I'm fairly certain that I would have found the unlocking pin or lever to press/pull to open it up. Hope this helps.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to post this Q&A on the thread for others, just in case it helps anyone. Feel free to ask more, although VD even now is evaluating whether my lens can be saved and modded.

    Best,

    Jason
