  1. @MdB you sound visibly skeptical & upset. not here to argue with you, just bringing on facts as they appear. Some more tidbits: Capture cinematic 16:9 4K UHD/30p video in full-frame using the total width and resolution of the Z 6’s backside-illuminated sensor. Full-pixel readout for sharper 4K footage with rich information equivalent to 6K. Clean output at high ISO. Zero crop factor with full-frame NIKKOR Z and F-Mount NIKKOR lenses. Focus Peaking in both 4K and 1080p recording. Simultaneous 8MP stills*. Wire-free to a Mac or PC. Connect to a Mac or PC over Wi-Fi and wirelessly transfer RAW, JPEG and movie files. Two modes available: Camera Access Point mode, for connecting directly to a PC, and Station (STA) mode, for connecting over a router.
  2. Lol.. funny how this announcement has got all the Sony/Canon fanboys panties in a brunch.. grasping at straws & desperately trying to find flaws.. FYI : Take an ultra-high resolution QUAD VGA display, add Nikon optics for magnification, including Aspherical lens elements and Fluorine coating, and you’ve got an EVF experience unlike any before it. Minimal lag and blackout, 100% frame coverage (approx.), corner-to-corner clarity and sharp magnification. It has the feel of an optical viewfinder, and you can use it for both stills and videos. Pretty sure Nikon's plan is for you to upgrade to a D850.. and maybe add a Z6/7 on the side for weekends
  3. Internal codec is your typical 8-bit H264. No info on bitrate but assume similar to D850 so around 150mbps in 4K. As for battery life, grip will be manditory for video shooting imo (unless you don't mind swapping batteries): The MB-N10 Multi-Power Battery Pack that is currently in development will hold two EN-EL15b, effectively increasing the number of shots possible and/or movie recording time by approximately 1.8×. It will provide the same level of dust and drip resistance as the Z 7 and Z 6, and will support USB charging using the EH-7P Charging AC Adapter. Information regarding the release of this product will be announced at a later date.
  4. At $1999 i find the Z6 extremely compelling.. however at $3400 i find they could have added at the very least an extra card slot to the Z7. Something tells me an Z8/9 will probably be the 'pro' models in a year or two time. As annoying as it is, they've clearly left some parts out like mode dial, AF switch, lock image, dual card slots etc to segment their DSLRs from MILCs. Nikon may not have a cine cam line to protect but they do have a DSLR one.. As to comparison with Sony A7 line.. well the weather sealing, LCD/EVF resolution, top OLED display, 2 front function buttons, dedicated iso button, grip, touchscreen menus, right-hand menu button etc.. do set it apart ergonomically and build wise. Add to that 10-bit 4:2:2 out, Nikon color science & potentially superior IBIS and it's a slam-dunk to me. Canon are going to have to go all out if they plan on taking lead now..
  5. https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/mirrorless-cameras/z-7.html#tab-ProductDetail-ProductTabs-Overview scroll down to body & sealing tabs. same brake mechanism & shutter blade as D850 too.
  6. Agreed looks good and keep in mind that is from the pixel-binned FX / full readout DX Z7. The Z6 will have even better IQ with oversampled 4K..
  7. magnesium alloy body same material used in D850 / D5. Same level of strength and durability, as well as dust- and drip- resistance, as the Nikon D850.
  8. @IronFilm that's 10-15mn movie recording battery life.. internal movie recording limit is 30mn. presentation mentioned a battery grip for longer movie recording..
  9. Touch Focus, Face recognition & tracking, 8K Timelapse, 10-bit / N-log via HDMI, View assist, Timecode..
  10. AF details emerging: The hybrid AF system covers about 90% of the imaging area
  11. yeah well i'm glad they went the top lcd route but have got other bigger issues like the absence of a AF mode selector, guess they can't please everyone.. i'm also starting to get shaky feels about video specs.. ?
  12. Personal preference i guess but when shooting photography especially i absolutely hate having to tilt the lcd or raise cameras evf to do basic settings like set aperture, shutter speed, iso or WB. especially true on cameras with no dedicated controls for those functions, it becomes goofy. especially in dark event situations where a big bright back LCD would disturb the audience/performers etc.. i also like having the EVF clear of a gazillion overlapping text info cluttering up and distracting my composition..
  13. Shouldn't carry the premium pricetag of either Hassy or Leica and hopefully won't just be a rebranded Sony RX but actual technical upgrade. Contax Zeiss are still some of my favorite film camera/lens combos of all time.
  14. Again you must be confused as the only info given on NR are the number of AF points. That doesn't give you the coverage % or the way it handles for video if Nikon by any chance have developed stuff like Eye autofocus or Dual Pixel AF. So no we don't know "all about it".. Also the Z6 isn't that crippled. It's better at lowlight with higher ISO performance and higher FPS than Z7. And this at a much lower price. @mercer Fully agreed on the top LCD, it's a must have feature for me, especially on cameras with no dedicated aperture, wb, shutter speed & iso controls.. hate having to gauge settings from back lcd or EVF.
  15. @wolf33d hold your horses, at this point we know nothing yet of the video AF. as a comparison, Canon 1DX2/5D4 only have 61 points of AF but have the amazing Dual Pixel AF covering 80-100% in live view/video mode.
  16. fully agreed but all this leads me to think these omissions are intentional as to not canibalize D850/DSLR sales.. different targets for sure..
  17. It’s shaping up to be a mirrorless D850. As long as IBIS & AF for video are on point..
  18. Looks like the mirrorless FF war just got a new contestant.. – Announcement before Photokina – This is a fixed lens Full Frame camera – It uses Sony tech (probably RX1II based). – Price around $3,000 – Probably has a prime lens (35mm f/2.0?) – Slightly bigger lens construction than you get on the Sony RX1 series. – lens is autofocus https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-first-image-of-the-new-zeiss-full-frame-camera/
  19. No AF mode switch is of bigger concern to me.. hopefully the front FN buttons can act as AF-S/AF-C toggles.
  20. Also if AF is important, I find the even basic implementation of Canon's Dual Pixel on the C100s more reliable than the video AF from any current competing camera brand..
  21. @Simon Young I agree there are certain amount of little quirks Fuji need to address however i've never experienced "moiré in 4K"? in pixel binned 1080p & slo-mo however yes..
  22. Pull the trigger today mate.. but don't come crying in a month or so.. I know a lot of recent D850 owners with buyers remorse right now
  23. Agreed with the above. With +4 hours of battery life, unlimited record time, dual SD slots, ND filters, internal stereo shotgun mic (and XLRs if needed), Dual Pixel AF, a 4K downscaled to 1080p sensor, uncompressed 4:2:2 recording via HDMI, top handle and pivotable side grip ergonomics allowing steady shots without IBIS, Super35 sensor from the C300, peaking/zebras/waveform assist.. and it's current price tag, the camera still easily surpasses most current cameras in quite few departments..
