I think a Super 16 mm crop mode (around 3x) yielding approximately 5ms read-out speed (same as film) would be a good addition as a firmware update and it could possible as the full sensor read-out speed is claimed to be 15ms. Please Panasonic do that.

I think that 10bit will work really well, as long as there's nothing you need to pull out of the noise floor. Remember that the 2K DCI spec for Cinemascope is 2048x858... which is 80% of the above res. This allows for a significant amount of re-composing / stabilising / downscaling for increased resolution.

Interestingly, both types of DNG are the same size in bytes - don't know what's going on there.

This 10 bit footage looks really bad. Do you think it is worth the hassle compared to a 8 bit log?

I think it will be internal compressed raw. Sony announced that they were working on that. It would be a decisive step above Canon's cameras (FS7 is already more popular in some segments than the C300) and into RED's territory.

I am thinking about going raw. Used C500 or FS5? What of you think?

I have an A7rII and will be keeping it as a b cam and stills cam. I want to move to raw in order to keep getting the high dynamic range of s-log2 without the banding issue.

I agree. A7rii owner and I am very satisfied with the came. But I believe that FF is more like real 4K except when you get moire (but if you avoid cityscapes you should be fine). The aps-c mode is like almost 5k. 

"False" means that he is not telling the "truth" now. It has no necessary relation with his previous posts. What is strange is that people were pushing him to get to the "truth". And what they got is this "confession", which seems to be very far from the "truth". It was even given when he was willing to refund the money anyway. OP asked to wait a few days. This "confession" is only what people wanted to hear to close this whole saga in their heads. 

Given the circumstances, I will refrain from posting here any longer. I actually regret I did. I hope Andrew gets back soon. He semmed to be reasonable to deal with the situation.

If he was saying he did not do the scam as he was, but a person was going to his friends to humiliate and shame him. And he asks this person what he has to do to stop the shaming. And the person replies, "a confession". And the person confesses. This is a false confession in my opinion.

I had understood Ebrahim had confessed because Andrew had got in and said he will check the IPs and contact the police in Germany (which is reasonable as he is the owner of the forum). I did not imagine that he had falsely confessed because he was being pushed by Ed in such a manner. The whole thing is very said. Given the events, I need to retract my previous statement and apologize to Ebrahim.

Go with the c100 and the 35mm f2 IS. Everything you need, really. Most people will not care about the dynamic range difference. And a 5D: you will later have to buy a rig, a xlr audio solution, expensive cards, nd filters, and have time to transcode everything. And also, consider an used c300. People made features with the beast, and they won the Palme d'Or.

I agree, Sony's lens development could be much better. The 55, 35 and 28 are great for the system. The good zooms are heavy and expensive. However, as I do not use zooms (the last one I bought came with my Chinon film camera), I use 35mm and 50mm equivalents for 95% of what I do, it makes easier for me to go with a Sony.

I bought my A7rii used (500 clicks) with a 3-month seller warranty for $2600. This is $670 more than a XT2 with the battery grip (which you need to shoot proper 4k). I bought my zeiss 55mm 1.8 for $700 (grey market, 1 year warrant), which is $100 more than a new fuji 35mm 1.4. Of course, I can buy a grey market fuji lens and wait a few months for a used XT2 and get the different back to the $1000 gap. However, I will not trade those $1000 plus film profiles for 42mp, unlimited video recording (with the open memories app), usable full frame 4k in some situations, and image stabilization on my prime. Besides, I found out that I can get beautiful jpegs straight out of the A7rii with some tweaking, and the grading of the video footage is not so bad as you are made to believe, perhaps the A7rii has better colors than the A7sii.  

It would be wonderful if Fuji makes a video camera. Which sensor will they put on the camera though? I don't believe that Sony would allow Fuji to use its sensors in video cameras. But who knows...

I would be glad to give the medals if he had not brought the discussion to this topic. My point was that people are very critical of Sony (sometimes with a good amount of reason) but when I see Fuji putting that huge battery grip to make the camera record proper 4k (and to have a headphone jack), I feel impressed by what Sony did with their A7 cameras. Same size, full frame and very controlled overheating after they updated the firmware.  

Don't get me wrong. I find their film emulation great and their cameras beautiful, however as I am not rich, I cannot justify buying a Fuji camera when one has the a7 around. And you can even bring your lenses to a proper video camera, like a fs5 or fs7 if you want to step up in the future. Or just buy a $550 a6000 if you want a very good, second body photo camera that Fuji could only catch up in some aspects with the $1700 x-pro2.

Who said the a7rii recorded 4k in a full sensor read out? I said both cameras record full frame 4k, which they do. Of course A7rii does not do a full pixel read out in full frame. But I prefer to have it on my camera rather than no full frame at all. I have one, I find it very useful for close ups, when I am in tight spaces and when I want to shoot photos in order to take advantage of the 42mp.

OK. According to the specs, it is 2cm shorter. Mentally I thought it would not make much diference, that is the reason I said "about the same size", thanks for taking the "about" out. However, the image you showed says otherwise. The 35mm 1.4 feels much smaller. But I still think that one would need a fuji 35mm f1.2 to make a proper comparison.

Great. Thus, let me know which aps-c camera performs better in low-light than a full frame camera being both from the same manufacturer and same technological generation. I would love to hear. Of course, there are more factors involved, such as IBS for example, that is the reason why I was talking about same generation sensors. However, all factors being equal, the full frame sensor should perform better.

The issue (and a good thing) is that nowadays cameras can shoot in such high isos that we are starting seeing a difference only in very low-light conditions, which one does not use very often. However, it does not mean that sensor size has no effect on low-light performance.

The one being religious or mystic here is you. Dof is a mathematical relation between focal length, focal distance and aperture. 

If you change the sensor size and want to keep the same composition you will have to change either the focal length and the focal distance. Therefore, you will have to change the aperture to compensate for that if you want to maintain the same dof. 

A light meter does not have a sensor size because a light meter is not concerned with the noise quality of your picture but only with the amount of light to get your exposure right. A full frame camera and a aps-c can shoot the same scene at f1.8 iso6400, both of them will be equally well exposed. But it does not mean the photos will have the same quality. To get the same quality (regarding low-light noise) you will probably have to shoot the aps camera at 1.2 iso 3200. Thus, you compensate for the worse low-light performance. 

That is it: when you cut a magazine with sizors you don't get the same composition. That is a very good example indeed. Everything stays the same (dof, focal length, focal distance, aperture) except the composition. Now, instead of having a headshot, you have the shot of a nose.

In addition to the cherry pecking regarding the lenses you chose as pointed out by another member, you are wrong about the practical effects of image sensor size on lowlight and dof.

If you get same generation sensors with the same megapixel count, the FF sensor will perform better in lowlight than an aps sensor owing to its larger photo sensors. That is the reason why historically full frame cameras perform better in low-light than aps ones and a camera like a7sII perform better than an a7rII.

As to the dof issue, if you want to shoot the same composition (a headshot for example) with the same lens (a 50mm) with the same aperture using both a full frame camera and an aps one, you will need go further back and be more distant from your subject with the aps camera. Therefore, you will need to focus closer to infinity. By doing that, you get a deeper dof. Another opition would be to use a wider lens (a 35mm for example) and keep the same distance, however a wider lens has a deeper dof when focused on the same distance. That is the reason why I said you would need a faster lens to compensate for going from a full frame camera to an aps one and have the same options regarding low light and dof.

But not with an equivalent lens from fuji. An equivalente a7rii with a sony/zeiss 55mm f1.8 would be a 35mm f1.2 on a Fuji (so you could get around the same dof and iso performance to compensate for the larger sensor from Sony). Well, this lens does not exist. Only the fuji 35mm 1.4, which is about the same size of the 55mm 1.8.

But I agree that the 28-70 2.8 is insane. I do not understand why sony went this route. They should have invested in lenses like the 55mm f1.8 and 35mm f2.8. They are optically outstanding, fast enough and relatively small. Well, the 28mm f2 was a good addition though. Together with the loxias, specially the 21mm 2.8, they are hard to beat.

It just make me like the A7sII/A7Rii, 4k in full frame with unlimited recording and the same body size. That's a good thing about sony, you get a full frame which is the size of an aps-c from Fuji, or an aps-c which is the size of an m43 from olympus. Of course, downsides: price and overheating. However, overheating is solved on the A7x cameras. Hopefully the next generation of a6xxx will solve this problem too.

Ebrahim, I do not understand why people have not been refunded yet. If your family has so much money and the amount of the scam is peanuts for you, why don't you go and refund them immediately? It will take you less than an hour to wire the money back to them. Your responses saying that you are thinking about sending the actual lens if they decide who should receive them sound ridiculous (sorry to say that) and it seems like a scammer talk. So, please stop. It is becoming very difficult to try to persuade the mob to give you the benefit of the doubt. Worse yet when you say you have a kind of army to defend yourself as if you lived in a bunker or when you say that the scam is not a crime in Egypt. It is just beyond ridiculous.

At least, in most democracies, the State cannot throw a new charge at you in the middle of a trial. That is one of the problems with these courts of public opinion in the internet. I am shocked by the instances of moral lynching of some comments in this forum. No matter what the crime is, as far as I know, lynching someone is not an acceptable reaction (even in serious crimes such as murder). People are talking about going to Egypt and beat him, ruin his professional life, and more.

And about the search for truth: we should be much more concerned with justice here. I think this is one of the problems with the criminal system of law. People think that it serves to find truth. Many experienced lawyers could agree that a trial has less to do with the truth behind a fact than, in the best cases, bringing justice to someone.

I'm not buying the hack theory. We know Ebrahim Jnr has a rangefinder. We know an ad was placed from his account on May 28. The OP claims Ebrahim JNr read and didn't respond to numerous DMs (easily verified). Ebrahim Jnr has been active on social media all this time; it's very hard to believe he didn't receive any notifications and an imposter was controlling his accounts.

I think we should move on. From now on, it is just speculation, a public tribunal that will only damage the reputation of someone further. Ebrahim Snr. is going to refund all buyers at his expense. If this tread did not bring justice to the buyers, I do not know what justice is. More accusatory comments (subtle or not) are just driven by revenge and desire to harm. Ebrahim Snr. acknowledged that the scammer is someone close to him. He will find out who the scammer is sooner or later and as he is the one most affected, financially (he will refund buyers) and in his reputation, he should decide what to do, not us. He said he will stop using the account, thus there is little chance that the scam will continue.

I urge the administrator to close the topic and be in contact with Ebrahim Snr. and the buyers via e-mail to confirm that they were refunded. If that happens, there is nothing more to discuss about it.
