  1. Probably a bit of tangent but Dune is a real guilty pleasure of mine. He definitely made repulsive-beautiful pictures there.
  2. That's definitely become more evident to me from reading 'The Revenant' thread.
  3. Good reply Santi, the capturing of the 'beauty' of this event was evident in your film. I think Bioskop may have over interpreted your intentions there.
  4. haha, I agree with the premise of what you're saying. The filming and editing seemed not to suggest any 'political or animal rights' affiliation but more of a slow mo spectacle of the abuse of horses by some fat middle aged men. Which is ok if you're into that sort of thing.
  5. Hi all, my set up is a Sankor 16c and Nkion 1.8 or Helios 44-2 on the bmpcc. I'm struggling to get the dual focus sorted of landscape shots. I'm sure it's to do with the hyper focal distance / aperture relationship what distance to have the sankor focus set at. Say if it's f8 and the hyper focal distance is 50ft - ish. Do I set the Sankor to 50ft then focus the taking lens? Sometimes there's no foreground to judge peaking by and distance peaking seems poor on the bmpcc. Also when I do this it only seems to give peaking indicators when I focus the taking lens to infinity? Any help appreciated, my head hurts from trying to work this out.
  6. I'd like to see a short documentary about someone climbing on the back of those men, whipping their arses and riding them through a fire.
  7. I really liked the symbolism, like what did that silent bell ringing suggest? Also I thought the Tarkovsky like cinematography; camera movement, use of light / fire etc was great. I'm sure I said this in the 'Revenant' let's talk about it post. As a side issue, I always worry about not being funny enough on a Saturday night, so have given up going out altogether.
  8. I enjoyed that, it could have been a bit grittier for my tastes but that's just personal preference.
  9. Ok thanks I'll check again to see if this works. When I asked on the bmd forum one of the tech's replied and explained it was an issue with the graphics chip / resolve that's being looked into.
  10. As a 17yr old I had 2 copies of Conan the Barbarian, one grainy old vhs copy recorded off tv (with added cuts) and one remastered uncut copy on DVD. My brother and I used to watch this movie all the time, it was like comfort food. He always used to insist we watched the vhs copy and I'd go along with it but feel a bit frustrated as we had the remastered uncut version there. He reckoned it just 'felt' better from image quality to the cut, looking back and having watched a few things in 4K recently I can definitley see his point.
  11. Hey thanks for the post and link. I did ask this question on the bmd forum and also noticed someone else had asked it earlier in the week- https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=43554&sid=1ebe9ee98fc2f486dd90f2d4b5ec9713 One of the black magic guys kindly responded to me and said it was a problem with resolve and the graphics chip my machine has which is being looked into.
  12. I recently compared the horizontal flare on the Helios to a Nikon 50mm f1.8 both with the Sankor 16c attached. I found the Helios gave a more subtle flare and the Nikon a stronger 'blue line' horizontal flare.
  13. Hey, I have the same issue with resolve automatically debayer to rec709 and doesn't convert to bmd film. I just graded from there.
  14. The fire / burning building in the initial scene reminded me of a Tarkovsky film.
  15. Hey I'm just getting some practice with the bmpcc including color grading and use of time lapse. I made this brief edit of rock climbing. Any opinions on how to make it better inc footage ideas and filming techniques would be great. dan http://vimeo.com/151238319
  16. Cool, the zoom has a great feel to it.
  17. Hi all, this is a technical davinci resolve question. First when I upload my footage it automatically puts it in a rec709 look as opposed to flat bmd film look. When I try to change this under clip- bmd film in camera setting I just get blank screen where the image was. Can anyone help? As I want to colour grade from log flat image not rec709. Thanks! Dan
  18. How do I go about stretching horizontal by scaling 2x in fcpx? It's really doing my head in! Thanks Dan
  19. Hi, I recently bought the eoshd guide which has some great info in it. Unfortunately I use fcpx and couldn't see a way to stretch my footage as described by the fcp7 workflow in the guide. So after tinkering for a while I found what seems like a great alternative to simple squashing the X axcis. It used both techniques to create what appears to be a visually better image, so I thought I'd share. 1. Open project settings 2. Modify horizontal resolution under custom resolution tab as described in the eoshd guide 3. Insert footage into timeline- it will be smaller and unstretched at this point 4. Change the X axcis to appropriate height: 0.67 for 1.5x, I use 0.7 5. Increase the total size of the image with slider at the top of transform menu, to fill the aspect ratio which should be correct This appears to give a better image than just squashing X axcis Cheers Dan
