At first I was annoyed by the disconnect between this site's usual camera discussions and descent into the mire of CAGW. But then I realized the similarities in terms ever moving goal-posts. Off I go to "enjoy my doom".

In terms of instrusiveness..larger cameras with longer lenses from some distance would be less distracting than crew moving around close-in handheld.

"why would you use the XC10 this way" I think for some of us, the hope is that a Hybrid cam can be an all rounder for more than one style of production. Many simply can't afford an arsenal of specialized cameras. What is your camera count, Andrew?

When this came out, I was disappointed by the screen doesn't articulate to the side...like many "camcorders". The ability to handhold/place in unique positions is hindered when you have to plant your head behind the camera. I get to some degree why they went Cfast with high bit rate/depth 4k at the time. But is the ability to record the HD to either card that difficult? Same with RAW stills. For the talk of it being a pro cam, the recruiting of Jackie Chan for the roll-out seemed muddled. The pre-NAB '16 suggestions from Canon that a big update was coming really seem disproportional to what they delivered. BTW, here you mention the Video assist as an XLR etc solution. As I posted in the GX80 thread, did you get a good one from the get go?(green hue, dropped frames) Some report the fan noise of the 4k assist to be of concern in close quarters. All that being said, I applaud you for having an open mind to revisit this cam beyond the specs. Maybe a further exploration of this cams baked footage and C-log after judicious post sharpening is in order.

I remember assisting a photog turned videographer. When we moved from inside to outdoors in shade (Fs700 with that tiny LCD) , I held up a sheet of white paper facing lens and he said "What's that for?"

I'm beginning to wonder how how much people are using auto white balance and how much that is influencing impressions of a camera's color science.

Do others concur that Panny has inherent judder during pans compared to others? When I see it on the web I assume encoding/connection etc. Regarding the clips above, the highlight handling in the windows seems good.

The larger 4k capable video assist?

Not much discussion here about the BM 4k video assist. When I look at some end user feedback elsewhere, seems many have problems with theirs. Did Andrew just get a good one? Hopefully the color science here will migrate across the line. It would be nice to know whether it's sensor specific or if firmware in other cams could benefit.

You make mention of audio. So how about it on the NX1? Have you tried an external onboard Rode or used mics in via Beachtek etc? Is there manual audio level control?
