neosushi got a reaction from Ed_David in [The Quiet Escape] A short film I shot on the Samsung NX1 - B&W and Color. 4 min.
Hi Ed,
I don't know how I managed to miss your movie - being an eoshd addict and NX1 owner and all that -
It's really great. I love how you twisted the image into fitting your story and not the other way around. The text is really beautiful too. I don't think I'd be wrong if I said that it resonates with most peoples aspirations and dilemmas. It sounds personal, intimate and powerful.
Also it makes one think about how we all want the most "filmic" camera but with the cleanest image possible... Well it feels good to see a modern camera deliver such a nice and authentic feeling picture - but oh well I love my NX1 too so I'm not to be convinced of that
Anyway it's a great video, just saw you got an article about it on nofilmschool too. Totally deserve it and more ! We'll probably get to talk some more around other geeky topics

neosushi got a reaction from Susie Sahim in 3-Axis Brushless Gimbal Stabilizer: buy or alternative?
It does look like an interesting combination but personally I find it too heavy :/ (I think it is 3.2 kg with battery / accessories). So add 1.5kg for a decent camera with a nice lens, and it starts being a problem... :/ Unless it is really just a few shots here and there...

Well it looks like I went through all that for nothing haha. Ah well
I agree! iFFmpeg I will use if I need those options and can spare the day.
But RockyMountains is just blowing through this footage! Love it

neosushi got a reaction from animan in NX1 Flat profile test (Gamma_DR)
Thanks a lot for your comment. Agreed. In fact from the dozens of hours spent on testing the GH4 (cineD) and the time spent reading about log curve on a7s, I am definitely not interested in flat profiles on 8bits camera (especially with such compressed codecs). I think you are much better off getting your in camera image as close as possible from your post prod image.
From my early tests I am going to continue shooting with one of the standards profile (standard or retro) with the contrast at -5 and maybe saturation at -2.

So funny Andrew, I just bought this app today and was about to make a topic on EOSHD forum when I saw your post
I just shot a commercial (france) yesterday with the NX1, and was quite disappointed with wondershare (tons of banding). IFFMPEG is a huge improvement in terms of quality. And I also agree that when you don't want to bother with command lines 17 (21€ in France) is a bargain.
Now I don't know if you noticed, but some settings needs a restart of the app to be applied - although the app doesn't warn you -. Such as changing the destination folder for example.
Cheers from France!

Hello douglaurent, regardless of whether you are right or not in saying the 1DC is "better" than the A7S, the argument is boring and frankly a waste of time. Both can capture lovely images. Leave it as that.
I'm more interested in how the Shogun would benefit my work on a creative level, and if those benefits are enough to influence my next camera purchase. I change bodies every 2 years so it's time to choose. ?

Still preparing the blog post on that. Stay tuned. Learning as I go
So far it's only working in 4K 30p on the NX1.

-35 contrast in the converter app (Wondershare) and "Retro" profile on -8 contrast are providing some interesting results in low light at ISO 1600 and 3200. Really moves the blacks away from the danger zone, but doesn't hurt highlights.

If you want a flatter grade then the settings I just posted above plus Film Convert BMCC 2.5K Film gamma as Source Camera and Fj Velvia 100 as the film stock looks lovely! Clean ISO 3200!! Nice silky blacks!

The image is unbelievably detailed and doesn't look digitally sharpened. Colours are really, really nice too. But shadows here are noisy and really lacking in information. No wonder Andrew crushed them in his video.
I'm sure this video has been graded. The blue in the shadows is a giveaway - I've never seen any camera do that natively.
