  1. Hi Oliver, the design of the site makes a good impression!

For my taste the showreel has a few weaknesses:)

    - the representation of femininity is sometimes questionable - but possibly good for some potential clients...(hmm...)

    - there is a lot of scary stuff in it - possibly bad for potential clients (like me:).

    - the music seems over the top. It connote a bit, that there happens the greatest things since the Big Bang:).

Just my opinion, I don´t want to provoke:)

At the end, it is a nice website!

  2. I was grading some XAVC-L files today for a corporate via FS7. They were well lit, framed nicely. Only thing is, I didn't like the image at all. It felt kinda plastic and sterile, no matter how much grading I'd put into it.

This is the same feeling that I have always with images from Sony Cameras.

When I look at these examples from BM Cameras, I think colorwise this is the best what I can get from a camera.

I have the feeling; from this point I can grade in every direction...

But I have serious doubts to get easily - on this point - with a Sony Camera.

  3. I don´t agree with the negative statement about Canon Lenses, especially about the 24-70mm in richg101s post.

It makes no sense to write fingers to the bone about matters of taste, but I think there are a lot of readers who don´t know this lens and so it hurts a bit...

In my Eyes this is the best Zoom lens I´ve ever used!

But as I said, that means nothing:), it´s just an opinion...

Vimeo is a good tool to get an impression, but I think, the best is to make tests under exact the same conditions! Otherwise opinions may tend to Romanticism.

I have sold my 24-70 years ago, bought a lot of primes, test them finally in comparison with a borrowed 24-70 and came back on it. - with the conclusion that this lens got the best color rendition and the most pleasing overall rendition/image of all my lenses.

  4. Because the people who use it have it and have never used anything else, so they don't know what the modern cameras can do.

It is sort of like someone out driving an old model T who still swears by its virtues. But for the rest of us it is just a really old car that saw its day a long time ago. For someone new coming along, the recommendation to buy the model T by these folks is just plain bad advice :)

Color and quality looks like film shot in the 60s. Don't like that retro stuff.

    :)
Look at stills from 2014 feature films...
    - it seems that the most directors and cinematographers don´t realized what a modern camera can do:)

    - nice site by the way.

  5. Hey Satoshi. yes, it´s possible to record audio - with so-called MLV file recording...
External monitors via HDMI should working fine (I only have the 5dmk2 - there it works).

I think, filming in ML RAW is only recommended when you shoot little and selected.
In that case it is great fun with great results - for an affordable price!

  6. Here some beautiful footage from the upcoming Ursa mini 4k:

"Most of the footage was shot in Prores HQ (which looks amazing - even more so than the BMCC), Full HD, 60fps. We used all sorts of lenses: Canon 24-70 2.8L, 50mm 1.2L, 100mm 2.8L IS, 17-55 2.8 IS and the Sigma 18-35 1.8. Please note that while the firmware we had on the Ursa Mini was as close to the final firmware as possible, but was still in beta nonetheless."
