Same. Im glad someone else understands that it was solely an aesthetic choice and thats ok. If you want to crush blacks ? Crush them. You want to blow highlights ? Blow em...as long as it adds to the character of the image and brings you to the look you want ??♂️

@Geoff CB been wondering if they are worth switching out my nikkor set for ! The rendering of the voigtlanders give the image a lot of pop even on crop sensors

Max bitrates and does the NX1 hack actually reduce macro blocking?
kidzrevil replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yeah @Parker is on the money, I would use the same Lexar card. As far as macroblocking goes the bitrate definitely helps with that big time. My nikkor 28mm f2.8 used to break the codec into a macroblocked mess on detailed shots until I used the hack @Andrew Reid -
@TheRenaissanceMan I love the rendering of them judging from @Geoff CB videos. The 40mm f2 caught my eye the most out of the set
-
The composition is what jumped out to me. The shots look amazing to me especially the center weighted shots
-
I doubt anyone watching this on youtube is going to care if the shadows are crushed ? The deep shadows were an aesthetic choice right ?
-
Does anyone have any experience with the nikon/canon mount voigtlanders ? Namely the 28mm f2.8 color skopar, 40mm f2 ultron and 58mm f1.4 nokton ? Im really considering picking them up over my nikkors because they are tiny and manual focus

Love the shots you took in the hospital. The composition is beautiful ????

@buggz the speedbooster xl on the gh5 should be 1.28x crop which put thats in apsh territory. Thats pretty dope
-
@buggz thats amazing, apsh crop in 4K sounds like its worth the upgrade

nikkor 20mm f3.5 and nikkor micro 55mm f3.5 love these lenses with the metabones speedbooster xl on the panasonic g80. Im dying to see how they look on a sony a6500 with speedbooster
-
Has anyone used the GH5 with the metabones speedbooster XL yet ?

Im pretty sure you took my words out of context as well. You said something about maybe the camera firmware adding sharpness to the lens with digital correction and I agreed that may be the case.I never said beautiful images can't be produced with a lumix lens nor did I say your point proved that these lenses can't produce amazing images but you immediately took that as a personal attack and responded accordingly. These firmware corrections may have been common knowledge to you but it was unbeknownst to me. Im still searching high and low for what the problem is here but okay man you win ??
-
You just confirmed my suspicion about Lumix lenses ! I wonder how much of the sharpness or over sharpening we experience with these lenses are the results of in camera correction ? As much as I love the footage I get from my lumix 20mm f1.7 it looks like a ton of digital sharpening is applied even when I use diffusion filters

@jagnje not really. Never had a problem with it. Only time it acts up if I dramatically swing the camera left or right
-
@jagnje not really. The microjitter is from the crazy winds that were blowing on top of the peak, otherwise the stabilizer works great for me 99.9% of the time
-
@jagnje yeah

There definitely is a direct correlation between contrast levels and noise. I kept the lens cap on and was shifting through the picture styles and noticed standard, vivid & cinelike v had no visible noise on the viewfinder. The minute I switched to portrait, natural & cinelike d I see chroma & luma noise. Since the contrast slider seems to predominantly affect the midtones im going to experiment with cranking it up a little and seeing how it responds fo the +2/3 & -2/3 exposure range
-
@mercer This was with a tiffen black satin 2. You are absolutely right if I under exposed by -2/3 a stop the highlight roll off would be way better which I confirmed with my other tests. Im going to try and convert this footage to cineon using vision color impulz because I do believe I can get better highlights out of this footage. These shots were graded to be contrasty and very colorful using a combo of filmconvert and visioncolor impulz. Im leaning towards a bright, contrasty and colorful style of grading so I don't mind how this came out but for the sake of testing I will convert this to cineon and see what I can do about these highlights
-
I just shot these in San Francisco. I wasn't testing ETTR as much as I was testing the cameras ability to recover highlights in post or at least create a smooth roll off to the highlights. these were exposed at +1/3 to +1 with zebras set to 105% with the natural profile. My takeaway from this is according to the camera's meter you have a maximum of -2/3 to +2/3 of range before the image becomes hard to manage in grading. I also believe the in camera sharpening and NR works hand in hand. I will be shooting with both turned completely off and everything else at default settings. I am going to test cinelike d next and see how far to the right I can push the image and recover highlights or produce a decent highlight rolloff in post. When I am done with that I will test how much in camera contrast I can add to each picture profile because the higher the in cam contrast the less noise the cam seems to produce

"Toy cameras" lol todays toy camera is yesterdays 5D mark iii. I would disagree and say whethere 8 bit, 10 bit toy or pro camera exposure is critical because : physics.

Canon XC10 versus Sony RX10 III. The Canon is underrated!
kidzrevil replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
@vasboz "know this is a forum for "film makers" but why would anyone buy a Hybrid and expect super stellar film?" you're putting way too much emphasis on the equipment and not the filmmaker. The Canon 5D mark ii was once the must have camera. Plenty of guys on this forum shoot with hybrid cameras and get excellent results. You may mistake some of their shots for RED camera material -
That would probably look incredible with the fuji log

Thank you ??! I agree grades 1 and above are way too heavy. Not only do they give us the porno look they start to deteriorate the image I used 1/8 for these shots and I use a max of 1/4 grade with my other lenses. I prefer the warm black pro mist over the regular bpm because the color shift gives me way better skin tones than I usually get. I just got a tiffen black satin 2 & I expect even better results with highlight rolloff and edge sharpening than I get with the wbpm.
