Just before you shoot, put all of the cameras side-by-side, and do a custom white balance on each camera.

Record audio with your mic from the back of the audience, and also tap into the house mixing board.

So having the extra audio recorder in the back does what if you don't mind me asking.

  2. Long story short. I'm doing a stand up comedy special for a friend of mine. He's looking for a 5 cam setup. 2 gopro type cams and 3 cams 2 stationary and one moving. I have a gh4 gh3 and the gopros but was thinking of getting another system if it would work better. I have 2 rode ntg2's and a videomic. Audio and video suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's hard to rig, hard to handhold, and it's hard to change camera settings like ISO and WB in the moment because of the touchscreen menus. The built-in battery is no fun, and neither is the need for IR filters. Beautiful organic image though.

So what camera should I upgrade to? I wanted to get a BM 4.6 k but the problems it's having thats a no go. I was looking at the c100 mark ii with the price drop. Was looking at the Sony but I never really considered them because of the lens prices.

I went from a GH4 to a Pocket and Micro. Very happy to sacrifice 4K for  12-bit RAW and better DR and color rendition. But important to note that one should not expect it to function like a DSLR, if that's what one is used to. it's a no frills, and tiny, cinema camera.

Was on cheesycam and he made a diy handle that controlled the iso shutter and ap. I have a GH4 and a GH3. Was looking to sale one and keep the other for taking pics. But was looking to to get 2 Pocket and Mico cams. Was set to shoot a comedy special in September and was thinking would that be a good option.

Oh and what do you recommend on getting first the micro or the pocket?

Well. Then again... which other camera? :grimace: Were there even other nominees in the category?

Guess they where the only company that are actually trying to put out a quality camera this quarter other than give us wishful thinking like some other companies.

  6. What are the challenges/downsides that you're currently having with your current camera/s so we'd be able to tell you which camera that solves them? Not just the challenges but also tell us if there's something specific you desire in a new camera.

Low light, Audio, Nd filters, and other stuff as well. I love my GH series cameras but I'm trying to make sure I didn't need to upgrade before I did so. Was just thinking I needed a camera that I didn't have to have a lot of add-ons to get the sound and picture I wanted.

  7. I hate to say it b/c I own a C100mII, but C300 carries a better name for camera hire. It's kind of stupid really that it comes down to that, and not talent. Reputation aside, I like the C100mkII better. The Dual Pixel AF is amazing. Also you get 60p @ 1080,

It's sad that you can get a job just because you have a C300 and the C100 mii does the same thing.

  8. Thanks. I don't think the lens has anything to do with it b/c I've tested some grey/beige walls with the 12-35 and the macroblocking is there, but I think the shots in Chicago were high contrast which hides it pretty well.

I've done some more testing today and have found that the Varicam LUT is just the worst in regards to hiding the magenta/cyan blocking. Something about that curve is just not right with the GH4's V Log. Film Convert seems to hide it pretty well. Exposing to the right by a stop or so also helps. Thank God faces aren't lumped into the cyan/magenta problem. They seem to be fine. I would just avoid big walls of light beige/grey, or yellow. Pure white and dark grey are fine.

So what's the major differences in V-Log Paid and V-Log Free?

  9. So... first impressions.

V-Log is pretty underwhelming to say the least. I don't know if anyone's experience was different than mine, but I'll lay it out there.

V-Log in 1080p is unusable IMO. No matter how you do it, it's got a ton of noise and banding. A very undesirable image.

V-Log in UHD/4k is good. While I can still see noise and banding, it is spread out better (likely due to the increase of pixels) to the point where it is almost unnoticeable.

My verdict as of right now is that you really need an external recorder with 10bit for V-Log to really shine, but if you expose properly, you will be happy with V-Log color in 4k.

I was very pleased with the skin tones that I get out of this camera!

I am attaching a text document with a detailed exploration of exposure with V-Log, but the short version is this...

White Clips at 75 Gray is 43 Black Clips at 11

(Working on a video to demonstrate)

Also I have attached my first version of an improved VLog-709 LUT, would love if anyone would test it out and tell me what they think, like/dislike to improve it.

Did you use your gray card to get the 18% gray at 42 IRE?

Here's a Pic of the short vid I shot with v-log and film convert.

  10. hey, it shouldn't be too dark. It does need some contrast and saturation added though. If it is too dark maybe bump the exposure up a stop or two.

Person on reddit said to over expose half a stop/stop and it will do wonders.
