  1. I do see great footage from the A7S combined with the canon 24-105mm, but Andrew advised me to look at an alternative. (24-70)

Any more ideas about the better lens with stabilization for the A7S ?

  2. Maybe the winner, is in the centre of the picture..The GH4 ;)..easy to use..great 1080p, 4K inside, APS-C option (speed booster), light weight, weather sealed , battery life, al lot of users..new firmware updates will come and also very very nice..it's only 1500,-  I have seen so much good footage coming from a GH4.. that we do not have to call it or lets say that it doesn't have to be 'video like'!

  3. If only one lens for the A7S, the Sony SEL18200 (18-200mm F3.5-6.3) is excellent. Autofocus, IS, complete zoom range for just about every shot. If zooming while shooting, auto ISO works well. F3.5-6.3 isn't an issue as the camera works well at higher ISOs. Here's what the A7S+SEL18200 looks like in low light, with many different light colors, at 1080p60 (slowed to 24p in post). This is an APS-C lens, so not full frame, however this works well for handheld as rolling shutter is reduced.

For full frame and shallower DOF, the Canon 24-105 F4L looks great. Lots of folks report the Commlite adapter at ~$99 works well (or at least as good as MB). Getting a nice prime in the F1.2-2.0 range is also worth it for super shallow DOF. Used Nikon fast prime lens are pretty popular for the price (Nikon to NEX adapters are also low cost). If you want to do much still photography, consider Sony FE primes so you'll get autofocus (e.g. Sony-Zeiss 55mm F1.8).

    Thanks again JCS,

I will give it a good thought..

Already wish you a happy new year .

  4. The NX1, I sent 'home' because of the H265 workflow.

The GH4 as a workhorse in my recording studio and the A7S as a creative 'free work' (home, nature, music clip for my band) cam, or as an extra in the studio.

Because of my EM1 I already, have some nice lenses for the Gh4. I have to sell the EM1 and the GM1, because i need that cash for the new ones.

I was thinking buying the canon 24-105 4.0 for the sony, with a metabones adapter, would anyone recommend this or are there some great alternatives.

    Thanks for any input.

  5. Interesting Max, thanks for sharing. I returned my Samsung NX1 because of the H265 codec and my impatience with that and also

because my computer struggles with it. I am playing with a GH4 of a friend and I have to say that I like it. It's easy and really made for

video, but we all know that. Because of my EM1 I already own some lenses, so this may be a good choice. On the other hand a Sony A7s is also

attractieve..still not sure. Already had some good advice, some in favor for the GH4 and some for the A7s..I do a lot of recording studio, well lit, band recordings

and I even have a dolly over there..so lens stabilization is't that important. On the other hand for creative own work (nature, home, music clips of my own band)

it could be very welcome..If I go for the Sony I have to buy a good lens, with stabilization for the creative stuff..although I could do that with my EM1, still a nice cam

with full Hd and wonderful IBIS.

I tried the Gh4 today in the studio and it worked perfect..maybe I could use 1 extra killer lens (?)

Like I say on the other hand the Sony, so nice the full frame, the 12 m pixels..i do like for pic's..I think for the free work in all lighting situations it would be great

and maybe also I can even sell the EM1 in that case.

Maybe put a Shogun on it in the studio..mmmm still in doubt. The Gh4 is so easy, simple and good..Why is this Sony challenging me all the time..

greets and good wishes for 2015

    lenses I have: 14mm 2.5/ 25mm 1.8/ 45mm 1.8

  6. Thanks JCS and (dank je) Cinegain, (Austria?)

Great answers and you nailed it really good Cinegain and also have some same experiences (EM1).. Strange, this evening I was looking to some

handheld good lighted video from the EM1, I don't know what is is but I like it..So maybe I don't look back if I make a definite choice on other hand

I can imagine that I still can use it for video, we will see. I don't want to sell it yet. I don't have that much lenses, but they are alright: Panny 14mm, 1.8

Olly 25mm 1.8, Olly 45mm 1.8 and a 75mm-300mm (I used the 600mm plus extended and got a great shot from the moon)

If I go for the A7S I think I can use my Pentax 50mm 1.7 and my canon FD 55mm 1.2/ 50mm 1.4 and the FD 28mm 2.8  I think (I am sure)  I will need an adapter..

With the GH4 I can use the 4.3 lenses.

I come from a Sony FX1, then the EX1, then the canon 7D, then the Panny GX7 (was stolen) then the EM1.. The EX1 was super, I thought I could live with the 7D..

Now I have to make an other decision..

    Thanks

  7. Thanks Andrew,

Colours are great  I have to say, but for me a little frustrating with the 'tuning' of wondershare and the crashes etc..

I also notice a NX1 problem, that I also addressed on the NX1 user Facebook site..it's with manual setting and a fixed iso stand that

if you make a very tiny pan it looks like the light intensity is changing.. like it's on auto iso.. very strange. It's not only visable on the screen but also on

the recorded video. There are some reactions of NX users that reconize my findings.

How about the Gh4? did you allready tried it with the Shogun..because of the m43 lenses I already own  it also could be a good choice is't it..?

I realize that the shogun is again a step in the 4k world but I have a iMac(5K) coming soon.

    Like i said, luxury problems:)

  8. Having a luxury problem:

I have a brand new NX1 & 16-50mmS lens but I am not happy, especially with the H265 codec.

Wondershare is working but not reliably, maybe because of my computer (I Mac air)..

I am testing, but every time I have to check the footage I have to wait and wait..terrible. Maybe I am very impatience.

And the size of the (prores) files..&*(%^& maybe I am not ready for 4K.

What I saw from the 1080 was one but not special.

I also want a easy and quick workflow, what was I thinking..?

I do take several takes from bands in 1 day, sometimes 10 or more with a length of around  4 minutes, 5 overdubs vocal or solo guitar.

I didn't thought it trough, but I still can sent the NX1 back and maybe with the GH4 or the A7s my workflow will be  lot easier..

It's stupid, but these arguments, H265.., file size, 4k editing time consuming etc I did't 'saw' it.

Would these cams GH4 or the A7s be easier in workflow, editing on a mac? For the time being it can also be 1080 output..

but it has to be an upgrade for my EM1 ( I still like, but maybe can use as an extra handheld cam)

    Thanks

  9. Enjoy, and I am really looking forward for the 4K Shogun NX1, GH4, A7S & 1DC 'show'

Thanks to you (and Ed David) I bought the NX1 with the 16-50mmS and although I am a bit struggling with the H265 I like the quality especially

with the combination of the picture style setting from you and Ed. It has a (good) EVF and it's weather sealed.

And maybe in the near future the codec is 'normal';)

I wish you good shooting with the 1DC.

  10. I hope to improve my skills in camera work and editing. And I hope that the choice for the NX1 that I received 1 day before Christmas was the right one,

and if not ..that I soon will recognize and change it for a A7S. (or maybe a GH4) Right now I will be going  on my way to my recording studio and will check with the lights over there and my son playing on the drums if it will have that what I hoped for.

Yesterday and today I was happy and unhappy with the results ..Sharp, nice colors but I don't like to use wondershare for converting and wait and wait..

and I am not impresed with focussing in low light.

The NX1 is also quit big, but feels good..

I hope that I can make a good decision, be happy with it, and work with it.

    Good wishes,

  11. It's a chunk of change. I'd rent them first if it's that close (or buy from a company that has a good return policy: Amazon, B&H, Adorama). I haven't used the nX1 but from what I've seen it's colors look great but you may have H265 workflow issues and less DR. I love my A7s. You definitely have to R&D the best in camera pre-sets to get a great color profile, but not impossible. Low light of course is amazing

    Thanks Tim,

I ordered somewhere I can return, arriving tomorrow..

It's a good idea to let them come both..
