  1. So you plan on making a 2K+ purchase based on some comments you get in a few hours time on a forum? :) If I had to spend that amount of money I"d read up as much as I could on any camera that would interest me, then I would sum up what is important for me and I what I would expect from a camera and make a checklist, any camera that would tick the most checkboxes and especially the ones marks as most important gets bought.

Noa, thanks..I already gave it a lot of thoughts..today I wil make the decision..and already the feedback is helpfull. 15.00 the favor is for the NX 1.. Good solid nice colors in movie, ( combination with the 16-50s) and for pic's more interesting. My only doubt was the ff

  2. I have to decide today, please some help..I will use the cam for filming artists in my recording studio, and also make some pic's with it,

but for that I already have an EM1 (with some nice lenses)  The NX1 or the A7S?

  3. Have to disagree with you here.

D750 is noticeably sharper in slow mo (60p)

D750 colors are much much better. Unless of course you're an expert, and spend hours and hours grading. Even so, I'll take Nikon/Canon for colors. Doesn't seem worth all the hassle on A7s unless you need high iso.

Still, thanks for posting this. Nice work.

I can hardly find some work done by the D750, can you post or link something lafilm?

    And `i don't mean the nikon ad's

    Thanks, it would be nice.

  4. I was waiting on the reviews for the A7ii and was planning on getting that. But then found the eoshd review on the NX1 which I had no interest in. Read the review and the fact that it is a tech monster caught my eye. But still specs only mean so much. But I watched the video and I really liked it.  I did agree with Andrew that it seemed something like a baby-epic but I do think it has its own unique look.

One site is not enough to make a decision though, so on I went onto youtube and started watching all of the NX1 test videos I could find. Sometimes it's not the specs so much in the end, it's the artistry of the technology. Does it have that voodoo that makes you smile? I watched a bunch of films on the GH4. They are nice but I didn't really fall in love with the image. The A7s I liked the image of that one better, but still there was something very videoish about it. To me, and I know this is subjective, but it didn't seem as cinematic as an Arri or Epic.

But NX1, wow, I have kinda just fell in love with the image, the coloring, the sharpness, whatever it is, it's magic voodoo I really dig. When I found a cat video that just captivated me with the image, I knew this was the one:

I like the way the highlights blow out, I like the naturalistic colors, I like the lens blur, I like the incredible detail, I like the texture and feel of the "film stock", I like everything about it. It just pleases my sensibilities. So I ordered the NX1 and the 16-50S lens and I ordered an adapter to use my Zeiss manual glass. Such an amazing image for just a $2500 investment. How far we've come. No excuses now not to make the film of your dreams. If not the NX1, the GH4 or A7S will serve you as well. Just pick the one that inspires you creatively. Remember the camera is a tool! They are close enough that any will serve your needs.

Thanks!!,  i am not sure if the cat likes the NX1, but I sure do.. Nice colors and sharpness..

  5. If you don't need 4K, get the A7S. You can always add it later with Shogun. Though form factor isn't ideal.

If you need clean ISO 3200 and above, A7S.

If you need full frame look to lenses, A7S. It's more important for wide angle stuff than it is for mid-range, close-up or telephoto shooting.

If you prefer to have the resolution of 4K and the absolute best internal recording quality in good light, with the best colour - NX1. It is truly lovely.

If you want the extra features of the GH4 and you have the lenses to match, then still consider it but on balance I now prefer the NX1.

If you need a Super 35mm sensor to match your lenses, (PL for instance) NX1 will give you that and 4K internal whereas A7S won't.

    Thanks Andrew,

A7S or NX1 now I only feel 'Torn between two lovers" just like in the song :)

    I don't have super 35mm lenses only a few FD lenses the .. 55mm1.2 and a 28mm 2.8

The more wider lenses I could put on my GM! and maybe use this old lenses for the NX1 and

be with that cam a little closer to the artist. Or maybe it's also nice to have a samsung lens..

    also for the pic's.

Andrew, not long ago you made a video clip in a studio presenting the intro with the LX100.

Beautiful song by the way. This is the kind of work I am also doing or trying to do..

  6. On the NX1 you could use the FD lenses and whatever fullframe glass you have. The nikon only takes nikon glass. But if you are keeping all the m43 lenses anyway, the gh4 seems like a nobrainer. Only using the gm1 is also an option, and use the money from the omd1 on something nice in the future. If you had a lot of nikon stuff the d750 could be a nice option because it's a great stills camera and the video is ok.

    Some good ideas,

But only the GM1..mmm.. I was thinking and sometimes already using it as a second cam.

I do a lot of band filming in my studio (www.hitafbryk.nl) so I can place it above drums or in front of a vocalist..

For the first cam.. I will need a new one or continue with the EM1, but like I said, it has a great stabilization but poor codec..

  7. Maybe it's also a good idea to put the Nikon D750 on the list.

It's not easy to find some footage of the D750, I can hardly find anything? "is there somebody out there?"

    To give the full insight: I already have a EM1 with a 45mm 1.8, the 25mm 1.8, 14mm 2.5 & some old 55mm FD 1.2.  and 28mm 2.8 glass. I love it but….you know.. the codec

    And a GM1 with the 12-32mm.

I also love to take picture's

If I should sell the EM1 and keep the lenses for the GM1 and buy a NX1or A7S or Gh4 mmm same #$%^&*() Luxery problem!

  8. Thanks Chrad and Xenogears,

The Gh4 a no brainer and a good idea regarding lenses & price, I can imagine..but it gives me on the picture side of things nothing 'special' I think it ain't that far from the EM1. But the A7s is maybe more exiting? Full frame and interesting for pic's. I saw Andrews night pictures with the flowers in the boat, cool.

And having both cam's  Xenogears, is there one favorite regarding film quality?

    Thanks again.

  9. I like my EM1 and have a lot of lenses (for 4/3 and also some old good canon FD, 50mm 1.2/28mm 2.8)  I like the IBIS and in my opinion the codec isn't unusable and easy to work with in FCX . I bought a GM1 as a second cam but don't like to work with it..my mac doesn't like the avchd and me either. although I know the results will be maybe better.

Maybe in the near future Olympus will give us 25 and 24 p and maybe 50 or 60 fps.

I will sell my GM1 and have some room for a new A or B cam..

What shall I do? My budget max is around 2k but I don't need to spent it all..

    Thanks for any input

    ;)

  10. Meanwhile I just keep on using my EM1 for Studio & Band promotion..Love the stabilization. It's filmed by my intern, we do around 60/70  a year of these little 'quick' impressions. But to be honest I would like that Olympus will take video serious, I think they will do in this or next model. Meanwhile:
