  1. If true, it could be an incredible response to alternatives like the A7S, or Olympus' supposed firmware update. It would definitely be very interesting, although I could personally only manage 3-4 raw shots in my workflow. Would be a handy tool for the "money shots." Whatever is going on, nobody can really complain about what's going on with cameras at the moment. Even Canon and Nikon DSLR video users can't complain. They can use their lenses elsewhere  I think the Olympus rumor is the most compelling. What a package that will be!!
  2. These rumors are just insane. The Olympus one (besides the complete feature list) seems most believable, but the GH4 one? Sounds like a spam bot email picking up lucrative wording and jumbling it into one. Raw on GH4? Why is there nothing between the GH4 and Varicam? It's a massive gap! (I was expecting an FS700/C300 competitor at some point).
  3. The only question you need to ask Canon and Nikon are: "What are your plans for video in near future products?" .... and go from there. Those 20 other questions I would totally forget. Don't waste your time ;)
  4. The rumors are going round like wildfire. Another list of features has popped up on 43 rumors... http://www.43rumors.com/ft4-one-more-e-m1-firmware-upgrade-info/#disqus_thread This camera can be bought for £699 in UK at this website http://slrhut.co.uk/product/ID1576C68/google?mkwid=gzyO1j17&pcrid=40141357916&gclid=CJvEoezd3sACFZTLtAodLSIA6g I really hope this turns out to be true (and the image quality isn't shit), it would be a right little creative beast for many, many shoots.
  5. I'm going to have to find a way to get this camera. Hands down the best camera release I've seen since, ever. It would cover everything and I don't think I'd need to rent again for many years. I know people go on about Canon and Nikon, however I think there is still a gap/opportunity for Panasonic. What do they have between the GH4 and the new Varicam 35? It would be very interesting to see a response here too, what do you think?
  6. This camera was made for photographers, not videographers or both.
  7. Cheapest I've seen the EM-1 is £750 brand new. I'll get one if this firmware update is true.
  8. Well, this is the best camera release I've seen in years. It has pretty much everything and a lovely design - perfect partner for the A7S. Would be superb for my business. Better get back to work... money is needed.
  9. Hi, looks a lot better! This is a minor thing, but I think your logo (and the banner) deserves to evolve with the web design - it looks out of place in this new modern world! I recently changes my entire website and got the logo done, makes the old look really dated! ;) I know it's a ball ache but these little things show evolution. Go on, you know you want to....
  10. I'm very curious about this camera announcement - just wondering if the design looks to be a 'sort -of' more professional version of the Sony EA50? (which has the EVF to the side and a sliding shoulder plate).
  11. At last, a new FS700! I use the FS700 on loads of music video projects for the slow motion function, however, I always get agitated with the thin codec and how the camera handles highlights (which is just downright terrible for a camera that price.) The ergonomics, haha, shall I bother? Well, it may mean the Fs700 comes down in price (cheapest I've seen is £4299.95 brand new - http://www.slrhut.co.uk/product/ID569C6/nex_fs700r-_Sony-NEX_FS700R-Super-35-Camcorder-_Body-Only_-FS700-/) That said, the other functions make up for it. Bit confusing with the F5 above it though. What's going on there?
  12. Good stuff. My only critique is that I felt the edit needed to be a lot tighter and rhythmic with the music, I know this was upto the record label! Hope to see more videos soon. :)
  13. Unconfirmed rumours and conspiracy theories about features are a waste of time and distract away from the tools available to use right now, as well as your time to be actively creative and make some stuff. ;) If it can't be bought, doesn't matter. Life goes on. :D
  14. Nice article dude. Couldn't help but notice your comments on needing a focus system you can use by not taking your hands away from the handles. I backed a project on Kickstarter called The Silencer by an American company called 24shots. It's a focus system which can control both the focus and the zoom (in different models) by pressing triggers that are fixed to the handles, so you don't need to take your hands away. I haven't got mine yet, but it seems very neat and not many people know about it! Should be delivered soon so won't mind sharing my experience. Links: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/24shots/silencer-follow-focus-system?ref=nav_search http://www.24shots.com/ I'm pretty much set on the a7S but it has to pass my rental test first on one of the shoestring projects..... (drum roll)...
  15. I've been looking for an opportunity to purchase an affordable small camera with a larger sensor, wide dynamic range, decent low light, high frame rates and not as essential but curious - a 4k option. Sounds just like the a7S? I own a GH3 to film the bulk of my work. It's absolutely fine really. I only ever buy a new camera if I'm looking for something drastically different for creative possibilities. A breath of fresh air. But don't quite have the cash yet to get the a7S. So until then.... my GH3 will continue to be my beast. The imaging tool of experimental techniques and new discoveries. The gadget to help me financially acquire a more beastly gadget for my work. And it goes on....and on....
  16. @Michael1... You missed the part where I said it's ok to compare the cameras in perceived performance, but I'm puzzled why some people ask "Should I shoot with a7s, GH4 or 5D raw?" I guess it's ok to ask the question, however, they are totally different.... Those considering a 5D with the raw hack should be looking at Blackmagic, another affordable raw shooter. I'm pleased that Andrew included the raw shooting cams in the test to compare with the performance of the a7S. It shows it is very capable and will be able to achieve very high quality footage in the right hands.
  17. I agree with Quirky on a lot of his points. I'm not sure why 5D RAW comes into this at all... It's a massively different kettle of fish. Although I think it's ok to show how cameras such as the a7S can match it in perceived performance. I'm very close to ordering an a7S because I want a different look and toolset compared with my GH3. Rolling shutter, weird record button, odd skin tones on a7S.... Doesn't faze me. There will be work arounds... Love to learn and just shoot. I'll be renting the a7S first though. Don't know why more people don't try before they buy. Did this with the GH3. Loved it, bought it. Tried the BMCC, thought it was ok, didn't buy it. Same goes for pretty much everything. Also... You can't judge a camera just by watching a few Vimeo clips and tests, as this depends on skill and creativity. It's cool to see it's capabilities in the right hands, but to write it off just because someone had filmed something with bad rolling shutter or yellow skin is a little silly. Love camera and what they can do.... I'm just more interested in the subject of the filming :)

    A7S vs GH4

I think it's quite obvious the Sony a7S has better dynamic range than the GH4, I just need to know first how well it grades in SLog2. (Any ungraded clips available?) I'm upgrading my camera and I'm torn between these two, but I can only get one and not both. The GH4 deserves more credit though in that Cinema5d post, when people say 'videoy' it makes me cringe a bit.
  19. Thanks for the feedback guys. The GH4 is the one (plus I'll be using it for normal production work).... and if it's good... the upcoming LX8 to sit in my pocket for spontaneous moments. In the meantime we have just stuck to the GH3. :D
  20. A friend has asked me to team up and create stock footage clips - not that I have any time but the whole model has left me interested and curious. I understand the how to sell it, what to sell etc, all been discussed and researched. Camera choice though... It's my thinking that stock footage should be future-proofed (shot in 4k) and have different resolutions available. Also that it would be most beneficial to shoot with both a pretty awesome camera (A7S, GH4) and a small compact for those spontaneous moments when stealth is required or I'm not carrying my main camera bag. The upcoming Panasonic LX8 looks great for that. The above all includes 4k, timelapse, and slow motion. Anybody else out there who sell stock footage, and what your camera choice would be and why? Thank you, much appreciated.
  21. Cool, let us know if it arrives and that everything is ok. Still need a few more funds before pulling the trigger. :D
  22. I shoot in a lot of awkward (but unique!) locations which are difficult to light... sure I light them up with all sorts of stuff but i really have to push the GH3 and this can cause some unwanted annoyances in the image. The aperture can almost be wide open, and difficult to focus with some lenses - so the a7S tools look to make this easier for me. Also I'd like to be able to get a shallower depth of field with some of my lenses for a few shots - purely a creative decision rather than for the hell of it like some do. Sure I can do some stuff with my GH3, I just need more to play with to get the look I want. Lastly, the GH3 hasn't stopped me doing any of my ideas. They always go ahead regardless. I just feel the a7S will give me more creative tools to get the look I want. Would be nice to be able to use a ridiculous wide angle as well. I love doing ridiculous things. The a7S seems ridiculous enough. :P
  23. I don't care less what anyone says, I'm excited about the a7S as the full frame will be a great creative tool for the shots I want to pull off... and secondly, the dynamic range and low light will help me battle the issues I regularly experience with my GH3. I have ideas. Rolling shutter isn't going to stop those ideas from happening.
  24. Cool, just wanted to check as the net can be a dodgy place. Seems a steal at the price advertised, I may go for it myself but need a bit more dosh. I've warmed to this possibilities with this camera now. Will be awesome I'm sure.
  25. As I'm really interested in the a7S, I had a browse around for prices and came across this: http://panamoz.com/index.php/sony-ilce-7s-alpha-7s-a7s-full-frame-cmos-digital-camera-body-only.html They are selling the a7S brand new for only £1339.50 inc.VAT, if paid by bank transfer. This is insane, considering other online stores in the UK are selling for around £2099. Does anybody know anything about this website? Why is it so cheap? Anything suspicious or 100% definitely correct? Thanks!
