  1. That's the second in the series of six. Identified by the side baffles in the front optic; version one was all round.

Be careful opening it up - IIRC there are 61 ball bearings in the focusing system, 1/8" if you lose any :)

Also the inside coating is delicate - any rubbing will remove it.

Thanks for the info! How would you recommend going about cleaning then? And I assume this is 2x?

  2. So I've been on the hunt for a small anamorphic, at an insanely cheap price and I think that happened today. Snagged this little guy for $120 shipped. Any info? I believe I've seen it before, specifically from Tony Wilson on here. Optics look a bit dirty, but we shall see.

For this video, I shot with a slower CF Card (60MBS) that gave me 1152 X 864 resolution at 24 FPS in 4:3 mode without skipping frames. I could shoot for at least 4 minutes (I didn't try shooting longer). I did my color correction with Adobe Photoshop and converted to 2304 X 864 in Compressor.

Anyone shooting anamorphic video in 4:3 with a 2X lens? Please share workflow and shooting tips.

    Thank you.

    Beautiful stuff!

I'm shooting 4:3 with a 2X Bausch and Lomb. Tragic Lantern (1%'s offshoot) has an anamorphic desqueeze option. Kinda buggy but might be worth a shot. I still prefer the Unified build without the desqueeze.

  4. So top get this clear before i do anything when the elements are closer together, i will be able to focus closer now with my lens i can focus about 10 to 12 ft which sucks. when this modification is done can you still focus to infinity?
    Thanks

I can still get infinity focus.

I only paid $150 for the B&L so cutting it wasn't an issue.
  5. So cutting it up will make it focus closer? how close that vimeo claims  30cm close. It sounds promising but i wqas thinking of buying some close up diopters.

tferradans you don't sound like you agree with cutting?

Cutting it up allows me to get the elements closer together which is the issue.
  6. To elaborate, I followed this pretty closely: cooking anamorphic on Vimeo

The only difference is I didn't remove the front element from the front enclosure. I cut the middle section of the Bausch & Lomb out. I wrapped the back element in a thick tape and mounted it in a Canon tripod collar for the 100mm macro. I mounted this tripod collar on a piece of threaded 15mm rod that belongs to my Gini Rig. I placed a 1/4" 5" threaded bolt through the 15mm rod and clamped the collar down with a small pipe clamp. I used several different rig pieces to place the rod in front of the taking lens. I spin the back element until all flares in the Live View appear horizontal. The front, larger element was a bit more tricky. I purchased this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/281126828459?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649) moved the bottom tripod mount up to the top to stack the camera mounting point a bit higher. The second tripod collar wasn't quite large enough so I cut the top 2/3s of the tripod collar out. I clamped the front element as well as I could and mounted it on the above ebay mount. I mounted all of this on my rig and placed it on some legs. I placed an LED light on a table, got focus, and began rotation the elements until both the light is in focus, and the flares are horizontal. Tada! Now I can slide the front element back and forth on the rods of my rig to get focus with the anamorphic and use the taking lens to refine the focus.

Edit: I also secured the cut tripod collar to the ebay mount with a pipe clamp to be sure that it didn't wiggle anywhere.
  7. Thanks all! I agree with the hand held stuff. That was the test here really; how well handheld stuff jived. Not so hot.

jgharding - It is a massive projection lens. Minimum focus of about 3 feet. +2 Diopter for the close ups.

Color was actually all done in Premiere with only curves. Excited to play with it in Davinci. Gotta grade the unstretched clips in Davinci and replace in the edit in Premiere so I can keep the pseudo 3k.

Finally got this beast up and mounted. I can focus through within about 7-10ft of the range I set on the anamorphic with only the prime, flares a decent amount, and is sharp as a tack. Squeeze ratio actually came out to about 1.8 in post. Pretty pleased with a 3.2:1 ratio.
