  1. new facebook group 'MLV RAW on EOS M' dedicated to what the title of the group is, for anybody that is interested.  Other ML discussion is welcome as well.  I have been testing ML on the M for the past couple weeks, and I'm absolutly blown away.  I've almost forgot I own a Pocket 4k.

  2. the best low light camera of all times is 5D mark III, and when you learn to shoot raw witih it - you'll be more than just happy;

just get the bloody Canon :)

I have a raw shooting mk3 and I will disagree with you on this.

  3. Right now my widest lens is the Canon 24 1.4.  On the BMCC it's like 55mm, so I definitely need to get something wider if I stick with the BMCC.

i've stuck with rokinon because of their affordability and for the most part always have positive reviews, I've not regretted any and I have a mft 8mm fish, 14 t3.1, t35, t85, the 85mm looks REALLY nice IMO.

If you want a good deal on my 14mm I'm looking to sell it to get a sigma or slr magic

also, if what you have tried shooting handheld with a 24mm (on bmcc) isn't going to look very pleasant.

as I said on the other message board, I've achieved very usable handheld with post stabilization...but that footage with with a 14mm lens and me walking like a ninja while having a nice firm grip to prevent bobble.

Lets not close the case yet, because some things are still up in the air.

Others do not have this issue using AE, and your results testing the DNGs in Resolve have been positive, and we know the footage isn't a complete waste (tying to help the guy get a few hours of his life back ; ) .  What is going on in AE that would create this other than "pushing too far" because lets say a person DIDN'T push in post but still see the noise?  Could a export setting or project setting cause this?  Possibly a debayer issue?  Maybe AE is doing something "auto" during export?

    Basically, now that we're sure it isn't a hardware issue, it's obviously a workflow/software issue....but what? lol

  5. In my test results, the GH3 shows much less compression artifacts in IPB 50Mbps mode, than in ALL-I 72Mbps mode.

Technically, wouldn't this be because IPB is pulling less detail than ALL-I.....that's the way I always look at this. so it's one or the other.

  6. Thanks Andrew... For days I m trying to decide which camera of the two to get... Mark 3 is too expensive as I m still waiting BMCC MFT mount...

I just got a BMCC, do not buy a MKII or MKIII, just wait on the bmcc.  Also get the gh3 if it's in your budget, it's only a matter of time before it's true ability is unlocked.

But I've seen a few videos already that look just as good if not better than any hacked gh2 footage.

  7. Nothing I have seen in video mode on any camera can match what the Olympus OM-D E-M5 can do, now even with legacy glass and adapters. It is certainly worth a look for handheld shoots even though the codec sucks and is 30p.

I'm not a huge fan of the OIS on Panasonic lenses for video. Sometimes it jumps and the Lumix lenses are a little bit too clinical looking for my tastes. You are far better off stabilising the camera with a shoulder mounted rig.

I would say the new sony technology, which is about the same as the OM-D, is....pretty much the same, unless it is in fact....the same

I would say in the near future it will be "the norm" for most cameras. As for now Olympus better live it up as the pioneers.

But the Panasonic TM700 and 900 had a pretty good built in IS.

From what I understand the only image stabilization with the GH3 is through the lenses, specifically lenses made by Panasonic.

Assuming this is true, I'm curious how people have fared with the GH3 when using legacy glass and/or non Panasonic lenses in regards to image stabilization.

Just curious what people thought was wise/reasonable in how to maximize a stable image when shooting with the GH3. Obviously a tripod helps but was looking to see if anyone had thoughts on this issue.

ProDad Mercalli works pretty nice, the better the shot, the better it works.  If you are shooting an earthquake scene, don't waste your time. If you are shooting just a simple pan shot or can get a decently smooth walking shot it should do just the trick.  IMO it works better than warp stabilizer and faster.
