1. Yes, maybe you're right. I did a test and offered my 5d2 with 3 cf cards for 1400 euro and I got 3 people interested. Yes I will keep my 5d till july and then buy the BM
2. Great answer Axel the problem is not which one is better between 5d2 and gh2, i am only concerned about the price drop that the 5d could suffer from now to july. My background is more theoric, I got a cinema history and critic degree (I write for cinema magazines and i'm coming out with a book on Orson Welles' Don Quijote), I have a good analogic photography knowledge, but when it comes to sensors, color corrections, profiles, well i'm still in a learning process. You said something interesting, I don't know if we may discuss it here. The hardware needs for the BM, for example, as a imac 21 owner i want to know if it will be enough to start or if i need already something more powerful.
3. Thank you simco123. The reason why I was consider to sell the 5d2 now is that i'm worried the price would drop too much until july. Right now I can sell it at 1400 euro (with various fast cf cards), and since I payed it 1780 euro 2 years ago is a good business. The only problem is have is that until july i need a camera for my works, so i was considering selling now the mark II, buy a gh2 and sell it again in july, since i imagine the price of a new gh2 in two months won't drop that much. I'm confused...i'm worried I won't be able to make 1400 if i don't sell my 5d2 now.
4. maybe some of you may suggest me what to do with this. I was about to buy the GH2 to use it along my MARK II. Apart from the look, we all know the GH2 resolves more details, sometimes you just don't need the cinema look but to record the more details you can, so that's why i wanted the gh2. Now the blackmagic camera comes and changes my plans. What I was thinking now was to sell my 5d Mark II, buy the GH2 and then resell it on july if I don't have enough money to buy the BlackMagic camera. From a $$$$ point of view, I'm worried until july the 5d will loose more and more market, since now the markIII is out, maybe it will be easier to sell a nearly new GH2. WHat do you think? the thing that gives me doubts is that the 5d II is a great photography camera, something that i won't have with the gh2
5. For NOne english-profane people like me, does this mean Magic Lantern geniuses are getting closer to get raw footage from some of the canon camera? I mean, clean hdmi to record on an external support?
6.
Agreed with those saying that not having HDMI is not a bad thing - this camera is clearly aimed at the more serious hobbyist or emerging professional, so SDI is the right choice...
Absolutely not with you on this. You guys sometimes get contraddictory about this camera. This camera MUST be made for DSLR users who are supposed to already own lenses, monitors and accessories but really need a camera to take them to the next level without spending too much money. If this camera is not that, then for who's made? No HDMI out, thinking about all those users that owns a small monitor such as a Zacuto evf or a smallhd WANT to be able to use it. DSLRs are revolutionary because they give you immense power in a pocket, because you can take it in your hands, put a viewfinder or a small monitor and go, to a favela, into the jungle, in crazy positions, in difficult envyroments. If this camera is intended for a static set with SDI monitors, tripod, for us to play like we are the Orson Welles of the moment, then it really makes no sense. So you are sure with an adaptor there is no way to use HDMI EVF or small monitors?????
7. Yes, finally some real tests, looks amazing
8. well guys, I've owned a 5d Mark II (i still do) and i rarely got problems with adapters. Sure, I know panasonic 4/3 gives more possibilities, but I won't see this mounting problem as the main one. I mount Nikon lenses, olympus, leica, m42...there's a good choice. My main curiosity and the real deal that will make me decide about this camera is how it works in low light, i hope in usuable image at least at 3200 iso, while right now they say the iso of the camera reaches 1600 only.
9. I'm interested too...so the principle (to put it simple) is to isolate the skintone when you color correct the rest of the footage right?
10. All this said I'm one of those people (there must be a good number)  that cannot afford to pay 3000$ (2700 euro with taxes) to buy a new camera from a company that never made one the day of the release. It's a long process meaning I would have to sell my 5d2 and maybe a pair of lenses to make some money for this cam, and I would do that only if it's worth! I envy any of  you that can preorder it without even seeing a serious test  :D I was about to buy a GH2 to use it alongside my 5D2 and maybe in some time sell the 5d and use the gh2 only, but in some ways this camera f..cks my plans. So now I'll keep my 5d...I also got to leave the vaf filter since it doesn't make sense to buy a 400$ filter if then I have to buy a 3000$ camera.
11. If it's made for canon lenses, than it will accept various adapter (Nikon, Leica R, M42 olympus).
12. Calm down guys, we are still talking about AIR! On July (or maybe earlier) we will know the real potential of this camera
13. Thanks! Anyway I'll wait until some SERIOUS tests won't come out before making my decision. My lovely 5DMarkII and some film grain will do the rest meanwhile.
14. Well I came to this forum as a Canon guy who wanted to buy a GH2 to shoot on events and look now! BlackMagic changed all my plans. I will now have to wait 'till july and see how this camera works to decide if it's worth the investment.
15.
I also pre-ordered and in line for the first batch :P
WHERE?
16. ehhehe sure! who's talking about war! We are on the same team I hope just like you do that this camera will totally blow our minds
17. A larger sensor can accumulate more light, giving better low light performance. the details the picture holds and the amount of noise (grain) in the picture in high ISO (low light) situations are simply better. Don't worry. They will show some 3200 iso footage from this camera and it will be amazing (even if you see plenty of posts on the net of people already noticing that the 800 iso try doesn't look that good), maybe you don't get me, I HOPE you are right, but words and specs will mean something when some REAL test will come out. Peace! oh and let me add that the grain of the short tests seems organic and I like it but STILL 800 iso is too low to make a statement.
18.
senor size is not important for low light ... its a pixel size what makes difference .... and BMD sensor has similar pixel as 5d3 .... and let me correct myself... sensor size does make difference ... for the same DOF u will need 4x more light for FF than BMD camera ...
Yes sensor size makes difference for low light ah ok, you corrected yourself LOL the sensor size is smaller than a gh2 sensor, but some people still say that sensor size doesn't make any difference...NOT TRUE, this is a small sensor and we'll see it in low light performances. If low light performances suck this camera, despite been a great idea and a pioneer, is not worth 3000 bucks
19. But the sensor size DOES help in LOW LIGHT situations and that's where the game is played and that's where this camera must succeed. Am I the only one waiting to see how it works in low light before saying this is the messiah?
20.

Regarding the sample videos, if you read the guy's large post, you probably know they were shot with a cheap and slow canon zoom lens (15-85), so I wouldn't expect much sharpness there...
That's way too soft regardless. I've used the 18-55mm lens that's slow and it's not this soft on any camera I put it on. Perhaps some post work is needed but those test videos are extremely soft.
so i'm not the only one that notices...
