Huh? Can you explain your Canon/Nikon theory? Hint: Canon is making 4k DSLRs (1DC, C500). Canon/Nikon do not invest in consumer level cameras video features almost at all (even 2k) - they make still cameras.

Panasonic LX100 first impressions review and 4K footage

There is filter thread already... -
Does anybody know what is the effect of changing aspect ratio in ‘4K Photo mode’? http://au.panasonic....pire creativity "4K video recording capability also supports ‘4K Photo mode’, which allows photographers to capture spur of the moment shots by cutting out individual frames from 4K video to create a 3840 x 2160 8-megapixel equivalent JPEG image. In this mode, the luminance level is adjusted to 0-255 which is suitable for photo. Users can also select any aspect ratio (4:3, 3:2, 1:1 or 16:9) when shooting in 4K photo mode by using the aspect switch."

SLR Magic 2x Anamorphic - my footage and first impressions

LX100 has it already: http://au.panasonic.com.au/News+and+views/News/2014/September/LUMIX+DMC+LX100+Designed+to+inspire+creativity "4K video recording capability also supports ‘4K Photo mode’, which allows photographers to capture spur of the moment shots by cutting out individual frames from 4K video to create a 3840 x 2160 8-megapixel equivalent JPEG image. Users can also select any aspect ratio (4:3, 3:2, 1:1 or 16:9) when shooting in 4K photo mode by using the aspect switch." EDIT: But I don't think it works how we would like it to work (not much usefull for video)... -
SLR Magic 2x Anamorphic - my footage and first impressions

Only one question: Can you mount it on Panasonic LX100? :D -
The beauty of multi-aspect sensor usage is that they could make smaller lens sacrificing 4:3 image format (1.12 crop) but maitaining almost whole 16:9 image (1.03 crop). But who cares anyway (probably my wife which will use it as stills camera)? The UHD is the same crop as GH4, so for me they could make the lens even smaller, just to cover UHD video :) .
-
No. Its almost the same as GH4. (And in UHD it is exactly the same). http://***URL removed***/products/compare/side-by-side?products=panasonic_dmclx100&products=panasonic_dmcgh4&sortDir=ascending Depends on image ratio. In 16:9 format it is 4480 x 2520 crop from maximum (like GH4) 4608 x 2592. Simple math (crop from m43 area): Horizontally: 4608/4480 = 1.03 crop Diagonally: ... = 1.03 crop Surface area: 11943936(4608 x 2592) / 11289600(4480 x 2520) = 1.06 ratio (square of crop) And what is most important for us on this forum (I suppose) is 4K video crop. In UHD both GH4 and LX100 are the same 3840 x 2160 crop: horizontally: 1.2 crop diagonally: 1.2 crop Surface area: 1.44 ratio (square of crop) Info: From wikipedia (not sure if true): The most commonly used definition of crop factor is the ratio of a 35 mm frame's diagonal... ...the ratio of sensor areas is the square of the crop factor.

http://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/cameras-camcorders/lumix-digital-cameras---point-and-shoot/compact-cameras/dmc-lx100.specs.html f = 10.9 - 34mm/(24 - 75mm in 35mm equiv in 4:3, 3:2, 16:9) /(28 - 88mm in 35mm equiv. in 1:1) /(28 - 87mm in 35mm equiv. in 4:3 in 4K Photo recording) /(27 - 84mm in 35mm equiv. in 3:2 in 4K Photo recording) /(26 - 81mm in 35mm equiv. in 16:9 in 4K video / 4K Photo recording) /(32 - 101mm in 35mm equiv. in 1:1 in 4K Photo recording) Also interesting: Continuous recordable time (motion pictures) AVCHD Approx. 120 min (FHD/50p), Approx. 125 min (FHD/50i) MP4 Approx. 90 min (4K/25p), Approx. 120 min (FHD/50p) Actual recordable time (motion pictures) AVCHD Approx. 60 min (FHD/50p), Approx. 60 min (FHD/50i) MP4 Approx. 45 min (4K/25p), Approx. 60 min (FHD/50p) but in the same time: NOTE - Maximum time to record motion pictures continuously with [MP4] in [4K] is 15 minutes. What's wrong with your language people?!! I don't get this english bubble... :D Continuous recordable time (motion pictures) ≠Actual recordable time (motion pictures) ≠Maximum time to record motion pictures continuously UHD looks like GH4 quality: 3840 x 2160 pixels, 24p (4K: 100Mbps / MP4), but FHD not: 24p (FHD: 24Mbps / AVCHD)

The same crop as GH4 but with incredible stabilized lens (show me small stabilized 11mm/1.7 lens for GH4, not to mention such zoom). Awesome I would say, not disappointing :)
-
Can You please ask them at Photokina what is the maximum 4k bit rate (have seen 100Mbps somewhere) and max recording time? Looks awesome! Mini GH4 with excellent zoom for half the price.. where is the catch?
-
1. Who cares? 2. One step less in post (cropping) 3. Maybe there is a difference for electronics if it reads less pixels (max frame rate, battery life...) 4. Who cares?
-
They say its m43 but used as smaller multiaspect. So maybe in 16:9 it is same crop as gh4 4k.

If these rumors are correct and latest 850 euro price rumor.. http://www.43rumors.com/ft5-panasonic-lx100-costs-845e-its-going-to-be-the-best-fixed-lens-compact-ever-made/ It will be fantastic! Only hope the lens has stabilization and filter thread. No more wishes.
