  1. Sharp is owned by FOXCONN. Not surprisingly Foxconn allready have a working relationship with RED. Foxconn has long been interested in 8K development for a consumer camera. The only reason Panasonic has no interest in M43 is that only FF makes it possible to maximize profilt. In reality the actuall production cost between a GH2 and a GH5 these days is not reflected in the retail price at all. Profit on GHx series have increased as the system have gained prominence. Alas there is more profit to be made with FF stuff.
  2. Well, give me a reason why Panasonic Lumix S lenses will not be expensive.. After all it's lenses which has the most profit. Also, if not reasonable succsesfull in a few years the Lumix range might be as short lived as Samsung NX. That is the most prominent danger of investing in one of these mirrorless systems. The market will probably not be big enough to support them all long time. Also Panasonic is rumoured to not be happy about the GH5S and G9 sales. And there is no GH6 in sight despite the model being two years now. GH5 might continue for another 12-18 months. With some small firmware adjustments. This is signs of a stagnating market. There will be very few new bodies and there will be longer and longer between the releases.
  3. Actually it's only one reason: More profit. Especially on lenses. Look at what Leica L-lenses sell for: 5000 to 6000 USD. Panasonic will not be able to undercut Leicas gross margin with too cheap options. Neither will Sigma which will probably be forced into making mostly big and heavy primes.
  4. Few more leaks from same direction Note that we differ with 43rumors a lot on this. 43rumors is being fed by PR department this time a lot my source said. Two main PR targets for camera - HDR (and DR in general) and 8K (rescaled) 8K mode rolling shutter will be just horrible, but top management keep insisting on 2020K 8K PR stunts Panasonic will form "hounds pack" to absolutely control all reviews and samples before mass sales Panasonic will try to surpass Nikon margins on lenses Panasonic will try to surpass Nikon/Sony margins on body and set new record Focus in reviews will be made on cinematic samples and will be done under supervision Target audience - rich lawyers, medics, travelers, etc Panasonic will introduce special elite support option Discussion still ongoing about moving some basic functions like timelapses and image profiles to paid options Some engineering things: Almost all FF cameras, including this, use exact same OLED EVF, progress is expected only late next year Sensor progress almost stopped, FF sensor will use EVA1 approach, it'll be backlit sensor Rear LCD will be of slightly improved resolution, but no more than 2.1Mdots Big engineering resources being spend to cheapen body construction (for few extra dollars) but keep sealing and integrity Personal View.
  5. Lets discuss the price level. This videocentric FF monster will retail for 4000 USD or more. Then there is the new lenses.
  6. 90 per cent of these customers never buy a 2nd lens. The kit lens could be glued to the camera and it would not make a difference.
  7. Refering to new M43 models, aka GH6 which probably will never happen? We have yet to see the full specs for Canon (it should have superior auto focus) and surprise! Sony is probably announcing something new a Photokina as well.
  8. What is the ramifications for the M43 system? A significant price drop in the future? The one and only thing which has never been small with M43 is the price level. ? Pressumably no more 2000 euro GHx cameras. Will Panasonic still make a GH6 when they might only ask 1500 euro? You can understand Panasonic here somewhat. Why sell a 1500 euro camera and make 200 euro in profit, when you can sell a 2000 euro camera and have a 400 euro profit. After the Canikons mirrorless systems have the blast at Photokina and Panasonic announces FF developement it might kill any future interest in the format. As for the current GH5 it probably need both a price drop as well as an updated firmware with new features to stay current until the summer of 2019...
  9. BTW: there is no countdown to a big announcement at Photokina. It's just a countdown to the PANASONIC PRESS CONFERENCE. They have them at every Photokina, IFA, CES, whatever. There will probably be a developement announcmenet, don't expect to see anything real until Photokina in may 2019. In Sweden 1200 + VAT In the US it's 1700 + VAT.
  10. This leak as well as the developement announcement comming at Photokina is just set up to make people not jump to Canikon mirrorless. Pricing will probably not be announced and tech details will be few. Product will not be out until summer of 2019 in 9-10 months I pressume. It's an understandable move from Panasonic as you no longer can sell a USD2000+ M43 camera in a mirrorless FF market which has the same price point.
  11. Well, 1200 USD + 25% VAT is 1500 USD. Not to defent the original posters claim, but the price in Sweden is LOW. In Germany the GH5 sells for 1709 euro at the biggest electroincs chain (Saturn), and 1650 euro from online shop. Initial asking price when new was 2200 euro.
  12. There appears to have been a significant price drop on the GH5 in july here in Norway but the price has since gone up again. Start price 21.500 NOK Jun 21 = 15 000 NOK Sept 1: 17.000 NOK https://www.prisjakt.no/product.php?pu=4098517 In Sweden the current lowest price is 14,000 SEK which acording to the statistics is the lowest price level for the GH5 ever. Swedish kroner is lower in value so the GH5 seems to sell for less than 13.000,- NOK. https://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=4098517 NOTE That VAT of 25% is included in both Sweden and Norway.
  13. If Panasonic wants to continue the hybrid photo/video approach switching to a FF/35mm sensor makes no sense for 8K video. To hot and to expensive for a 2000 euro camera.
  14. Could the arrowed button to the right of the viewfinder be used to zoom during video with compatible power zoom lenses?
  15. By the time this camera is available Panasonic will allready have presentet the GH6 at Photokina. :-)
  16. Sorry I fucked up on that picture. Ignore it.
  17. Finally here is the proof. I took the E-M1 Mk II sensor and superimposed it on top of the GH5. Marked the Oly sensor with red line for extra clarity. GH5 sensor is 1,42:1 ratio. Same as the old GH2. However, it's only utilized in C4K mode according to Driftwood.
  18. It was a reference to the GH5 sensor. If DCI 4K crop is 1,89 is MAR as well.
  19. If the crop is less than 2 it must be MAR sensor...
  20. Driftwood: "Heres a little bit of trivia... Bit of trivia... Panny GH5 in 4k DCI has a 1.89x crop factor."
  21. Something fishy are going on! Even in the presentation video the sensor seems wider than the 4/3 GH4 sensor. Also, measurements seems to indicate a 1,4ish aspect rato. (Suggesting a multi aspect ratio sensor like the GH1/GH2). Yet, the pixel dimensons given for the various picture aspects are all the same pixel width. (And same height for 1:1 and 4:3 aspects). Strange! UPDATE: The EM-1 Mark II sensor (20ish MP) clearly is in 4/3 aspect. The GH5 sensor seems wider. Could be that they chopped off 1 MP at each side to improve read out speed. Or could be because of IBIS.

    GH5 Prototype

"Its now confirmed, the GH5 will offer maximum bit rate of 400Mbps in 4K video! The 400Mbps will come as a firmware update on the second half of 2017. Right now, the the camera will be launched with 150Mbps." 43rumors

    GH5 Prototype

There is a working Gh5 sample at Photokina thats for sure...
  24. It can take 60 pcs of 4K frames and then you can select which one captured the moment best.
