  1. And when are Nikon going to stop styling their Z series cameras after their 1 series consumer mirrorless range (RIP) in particular the viewfinder hump from the front. Looking at the D6 next to it, and it's just so much nicer looking and professional.
  2. Well the Leica SL2 brings a unique thing to the table over the Panasonic S1R tech donor. Better 10bit codec, 5K anamorphic, more video features, better EVF optics, not to mention Leica's high-end build quality, superb minimalism, impressive ergonomics, clean German design, sexy looks, that incredible brand - so it is absolutely top of the range and a very different experience to the S1R. Colour science is fantastic but Panasonic ain't bad either. Does the Z9 look anything like an SL2 to you? If the SL2 is a Jaguar E-type then this is your Lexus from 2017. It's perfectly high-end and probably reliable but you know it's very derivative and 'of a type'. An executive saloon camera 🙂 What are you getting your pants into a twist about anyway? It's just my opinion. You have a lot of much more interesting and original tech on the market than the Z9. GFX 100S, 1D X III, SL2, S1H, A1, it is all quite original and unique. This isn't.
  3. Yeah but the treasure hunt, scavenging for cheap but fun stuff is all part of the fun isn't it?
  4. Defintily not including a lens. May include a potato.
  5. sshhhh. Actually you can do better 😉 But no telling
  6. Here's what I think we should do for the next one: - Large sensor challenge for under $150 (minimum size Micro Four Thirds) - Shoot the best possible looking PHOTOGRAPHY or video with it (I am personally happier just to shoot photos for some relaxed fun this time. Video more of a job in current covid infected world) - Use any existing lens you like, bonus points for unusual stuff - Must be new camera you don't already own and under $150 maximum (have fun searching) Winner is: - One who finds best bargain on eBay for under $150 with best image quality and ergonomics, the most interesting, or most imaginative choice - One who takes the best shot with it (just one amazing frame or moment wins it all)
  7. What a load of rubbish the Canon adapter is. Why not just use the Metabones one?
  8. Going to add the 1D X Mark III to the mix as well. Not much to shoot and little colour in Berlin at the moment. Not feeling inspired but will get on with it during the week probably.
  9. Sony turned it around. The A7S III is pretty good ergonomically. So is the A1. Took them a hell of a long time but they did it. Yeah Nikon Z6 is cheap for a reason though. I remember paying 3800 euros for Z7 body only when it came out. 6 months later was worth just 2 grand. I bought A7R IV for £2300...pretty good deal, have enjoyed it. Yes A7S III is more expensive but you get a lot of features for 3K! Better than some $10k cinema cameras. Hasn't really worked out that way so far. Sony, Panasonic and even now Canon have more than Nikon so far. No denying that. But again A7S III is a big improvement. AF needs to step up from Z6 especially with FTZ adapter, it was OK but pretty clunky by pro standards. True. I think they will find it hard to pick holes in the A1 to be honest.
  10. Keiji Oishi just said this in a DPR interview... “A flagship Nikon Z-series mirrorless camera can be expected within the year, and is being developed with the goal of surpassing the D6. It will respond to the advanced needs of professionals. The upcoming model will debut a newly developed high-resolution stacked CMOS sensor. While this camera will be a major technological leap for still photographers of a wide variety of genres, our engineers are considering powerful video features such as 8K that respond to the needs of all kinds of content creators and professionals.” “We consider 8K to be an important feature, in that the high resolution and high definition required in still photography is also important for video. It is likely that demand for high resolution and high definition will continue to expand, and especially considering that many of Nikon’s users are hybrid creators, it’s of utmost importance that the needs of videographers are met by offering attractive video features that push the boundary of what is possible.” https://www.eoshd.com/news/nikon-promise-8k-mirrorless-camera-within-a-year-close-in-spec-to-sony-a1/ Funny way to announce a flagship camera over Zoom to the press 🙂
  11. I decided to take another look at the Canon 1D X Mark III - giving it a second chance in the post EOS R5 and R6 world. New blog post: https://www.eoshd.com/news/canon-1d-x-mark-iii-revisited/
  12. It is getting more difficult. A few factors at play: - More homogenous globalised world, with cultures coming closer together under the umbrella of capitalism and internet - Global pool of talent and art, yes that's what you have to stand out against now. Before, you only had to be unique within your sphere of influence or country So the internet has changed what it means to be unique or new.
  13. Where is the fire behind the eyes of today’s über-privileged actors and directors? Read the full blog post: https://www.eoshd.com/news/boring-content-is-the-film-industry-too-sane/
  14. What a cutie. On the Sigma Fp: And on the Sony A7C: What makes this lens stand out? At time of release, it is the smallest and lightest full-frame F2.8 standard zoom for mirrorless systems. Available in Sony E-Mount and L-Mount for L-mount cameras from SIGMA, Leica, and Panasonic Compact and lightweight, perfect for everyday use and travel. At just 16.6 ounces, it is almost a pound lighter than the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art lens (31.4 ounces). Fast maximum aperture of F2.8, providing consistent low-light capability from 28mm to 70mm. SIGMA Art-level optical performance, with incredible sharpness throughout the focal range. Gorgeous bokeh rendering that softly blurs the background and brings your subjects to life thanks to both the nine-blade rounded aperture and optical formula. Lens offers excellent edge-to-edge performance with well-controlled axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma aberration. Dust and splash-proof mount with water and oil-repellent front element coatings. Working distance of approx. 2.8 inches (7cm) at 1:3.3 magnification at 28mm for close-ups and casual macro opportunities. SIGMA's Contemporary line strikes an excellent balance of both superb image quality and day-to-day usability. Stepping motor for swift, accurate, quiet autofocus for both still and video. Compatible with AF-C for eye-detect AF and real-time tracking. Made in Japan
  15. It's the psychological side I find most difficult at the moment. Not knowing if the world will ever fully recover or if we get our travel freedoms back without restrictions. Also, going stir crazy stuck inside with no social stuff going on has been very difficult. The last time I was in a bar, was back in March in Barcelona and meeting @BTM_Pix at the F1 I have barely seen any friends apart from a few locally since, and I think if it wasn't for being able to spend winter with my girlfriend in Berlin I'd have topped myself by now to be quite honest.
  16. Yeah, it is a form of payment and it is time to call it what it is. Pure marketing video masquerading as a user review. I really do wish the FCC and others would clamp down on all this illegality. Maybe if it's not technically illegal, legal only for vestigial reasons.
  17. How's peoples livelihoods going. How's motivation holding up? Mine is on the floor! Been a tough old winter for sure. Is this a longer-term economic disaster in the making? I just can't make out how people's incomes are holding up from filmmaking or the arts and culture at the moment. Everyone is impacted differently. Maybe you are on lockdown since November due to government incompetence or maybe you're a New Zealand citizen carrying on as normal? I'd like to hear your stories...
  18. That red line on the back is actually a vent!
  19. It's a complete game changer. Red box round the screen. Red line on the back. Red tally light on the top. But because this isn't noticable enough, the record button is illuminated!
  20. Apparently it does light up red in 3 places.
  21. This must be a new record for profit margins. The thing looks like it has a £300 Body of materials cost. Maybe a bit more than an A7C or A6600 costs to make.
  22. USB C / HDMI cable works. Well, that's nice. I'll give it a go.
