Not too fond of using a Monopod with a camera with a touchscreen. And the PK4 is an odd shaped body to start with. Especially a camera you are leaning on. Might get interesting lol.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm taking all the advice in and reconsidering my options from there.

Webrunner, in regards to what you said about the monopod: this is something I hadn't thought about, and to be honest I'm only half confident I understand what you're getting at. Could you recommend any alternatives?

  2. Can I get some feedback on my planned P4K purchase list? This is my first camera, first lens, etc. I've tried to do as much research as I can, now I just need some learned eyes to double check I haven't made any real dumb decisions. Planned use will be no-budget narrative fiction and a bit of casual street filming.

    Lenses: Meike 25mm T2.2 + Meike 16mm T2.2
Filters: Tiffen 77mm Indie Pro Infrared/ND Filter Kit
Monopod: Sirui P-326S with VH-10X head
    Storage: Samsung T5 2TB

I would be planning to buy more of the Meikes as they came out, and I don't have to worry about sound for now. The other alternative would be to go for the Metabones + Sigma route. I already have the camera, a smallrig cage and a couple of batteries. Not sure if I'll need a bigger battery or not.

Lol... probably not. If you stick up for the GH5, the BM fanboys attack you, if you stick up for the P4K, the GH5 fans go nuts... I may as well talk to myself in the ML Raw forum... I’ll definitely like what I have to say... ?

In the end, these are just cameras and it’s not worth getting angry over.

In this thread: a handful of people repeatedly crying about being oppressed for not liking a camera.

Not in this thread: BM fanboys giving critics a hard time.

The takeaway here is that this can't reasonably be called a pocket camera if it has a better understanding life of 35-40 minutes. For a pocket camera personally I'd like the convenience of long battery life and ibis. The images aren't enough to allow me to ignore it's glaring shortcomings.

Oh really? The camera that doesn't fit in your pocket isn't really a pocket camera? Hot take.

How far in do you have to go to have no vignette on the 18-35? I've been doing more reading and am pretty set on getting the same setup you're describing. I've read most people like the .64 Speedbooster more because you can just stop down or zoom in to get past the vignetting, and that it otherwise makes it faster and slightly wider. Do you recommend the setup and is that basically why?

Can you tell me more about the issues in bright conditions? I'm thinking of getting it.

You lose a bit of range too? .64 Speedbooster gives you 23mm-45mm instead of 25-50mm.

I'm using the .64 Speedbooster XL on my Pocket4K and it works great with full frame lenses.

There is a slight vignette on the wide end of my Sigma 18-35 1.8

Which native zooms have a 1.2 aperture though? Agree it's not a workhorse / walkaround but it's got exceptionally good IQ ( doesn't need software distortion correction like native M43 lenses), low light ability and it's a zoom! I'll only use it in low light situations as the amount of ND filtering needed for bright conditions is an issue esp if the IR filter on the P4k is not that effective?

RAW files reveal slight distortion in the Olympus 25mm and 45mm f/1.2 Pro primes used in JB’s Models Walking in Daylight, but huge amounts in the 12-100mm f/4.

I was thinking about getting the 12-100 as my first lens along with the P4k. What is the net effect of this distortion? Worse image quality?

  8. I contacted my retailer (Sydney, Aus) yesterday and they said they still had no firm data on a shipping date.

Also, question from a noob, why do so many Pocket 4K owners here use/want the speedbooster? This will be my first camera and I was just planning on buying a native lens. Do people use the speedbooster because it's better, or just because they already have lenses that require it?
