  1. It doesn't have the same sensor. Fuji sensors are manufactured by Sony, but they are unique (as far as I can tell) to Fuji. Regardless, rolling shutter should be better than the A6300 because of the 1.17 crop when shooting 4K. HD mode should also be a lot better, and I'd imagine it will come pretty close to the A7s crop mode (in terms of quality). That being said I wonder how bad it will be, because the shutter speed seems cranked up in all the video examples (most of which are shot at 30fps anyways). I also think Fuji puts more care in the implementation of features than Sony does, which is evidenced by the 4K crop, and recording limits. Also where are people hearing that F-Log is HDMI only? I can't seem to find anything about that. In any case I can't wait to see some real world tests, because right now this camera looks like a serious contender in the world of mirrorless video.
  2. Are you using SLog 2 or SLog 3? SLog 3 gives you a wider dynamic range, but I've heard a lot of people have had problems with it because of how compressed the XAVC-S codec is. SLog 2 has a milder curve which produces less artifacts when graded.
  3. Using an external recorder with the C100 really improves the image quality. It's still 8bit, but having ProRes instead of avchd makes a big difference. About a month, I was at a screening of student thesis films, which were being projected in a theater with a 4K projector. Some of the films were shot on Alexas, and some where shot on REDs others where shot on F5s and FS700s. Many of the films were shot on the C100, and to be quite honest, it was hard to tell the difference. In the right hands that camera can do amazing things. Also: I was assistant camera on a shoot with a C100 not that long ago, and over the course of a 12-hour day in the hot sun we only changed the battery once. You won't get that kind of performance out of an URSA mini.
  4. I mean the whole premise of Canon releasing a camera with these specs is kind of ridiculous. That being said... 24 MP Full frame Shoots 4K in two modes: Full Frame (downsampled from 6K) and APSC (downsampled from ~5K) (APSC optimized for rolling shutter performance) 4K 60p (crop), HD 120p Native 800 ISO C-Log more robust codec Built in NDs Outputs 12 bit Raw to an external recorder
  5. I worked on a short where A7s and F3 footage was intercut, but I was really surprised to see a noticeable difference in quality between the two. This might have just been the grade, but compared to the F3, a7s skintones looked like plastic and the highlight roll-off was not as nice. That being said, the a7s does have it's advantages. It is better in low light, it can do higher frame rates (I think the F3 does 60i?), and it ways a hell of a lot less. Now this might just be my opinion, but I actually prefer the image coming from the F3 over that of the F5. It just seems more natural and more organic. Obviously it's not 4K Raw, but as a final HD deliverable the F3 spits out some really nice images. I think sony was using some kind of magic in their early sensors because the f3 and F35 seem to shoot more filmic footage than their later cameras.
  6. Hello all! So I've been seeing some FS700's going for pretty low prices on ebay, and I was wondering what the EOSHD community's thoughts on the camera. Now I've actually used this camera a fair bit along with the Odyssey 7Q, and I am very impressed with the quality coming out of the camera. I mean 4K 60P Raw/ProRes and 2K 240P Raw... what's not to love? But I'm just curious, how does this camera hold up in 2016? Now we have the Ursa Mini, Fs5, RED Raven, and we have releases from Kinifinity and Craft Camera (maybe??) right around the corner. How does this camera hold up against the competition? I'm not really interested in the high frame rates or 4K or even Raw for that matter, just the quality of the final image, I'd be happy with a camera that shoots 2K 10 bit ProRes (which incidentally the fs700 does) How does the Color, Dynamic Range and Low-light sensitivity compare to other cameras on the market?
