This thing looks really interesting !
You have an invert mode, onboard monitor, follow focus, extra controller, etc...It looks a little heavy (around 3kg). And the footage in their video looks weirdly shaky... Not sure if it was a demo/beta version ?
Anyway I think its worth keeping an eye on it, especially since it is priced the same as Moza and Defy. -
Personally I'll wait to see how complicated is the calibration process...But I'm optimistic

I thought this looked good from the 4000
It's great work ! Especially considering the price / size of the gimbal. But I still have the feeling that it lacks the natural motion of more expensive gimbals... But maybe I am being too critical I don't know... I can feel the person walking, whereas with a DJI / Movi, I feel like the camera is magically "sliding"/flying...

I should say MOZA is lighter than DJI. It can work perfectly with Canon 5D and Sony A7 as well as GH4.
However, Gudsen has thought of the weight and working time, and is working on the light version which is about 2kg.
But that's the thing: the dji is crazy heavy
Espescially compared to the Movi (although in terms of price range they aren't in the same category).
I'll be following MOZA/Gudsen work on a lighter gimbal.I think (like a lot of person actually) that today the gimbals are really split - or should be - between two categories: the one you'll use for you DSLR (which now are super light: NX1, GH4, A7S), and the other ones you'll use for REDs, FS7, Alexa, etc. - which require a much higher carrying capacity.
Personally a gimbal that can handle a 2kg camera+lens combo is more than fine for my dslr (NX1/GH4). That should really cover 90% of the amateur/semi pro/dslr needs. And for that I will want the gimbal to be super light and under 1500$ - otherwise I might also be looking into a nebula 4000 and such.
However for a heavier camera (RED, etc.) the MOZA isn't compatible. So I think its a shame because then I would have to rent a MOVI. But still have bought a 2K gimbal...
And it's also a shame because with all its features (wireless HDMI), and wireless remote for an assistant camera, the Moza has a great potential. But it is either too heavy for DSLR work, or not able to carry heavier cameras for professional work. That being said I really think it's great to see a new competitor with really nice and new features - that is why I will definitely follow gudsen/moza products - but for now will also be looking at defy and such.- Cinegain and Susie Sahim

I don't know how I managed to miss your movie - being an eoshd addict and NX1 owner and all that -
It's really great. I love how you twisted the image into fitting your story and not the other way around. The text is really beautiful too. I don't think I'd be wrong if I said that it resonates with most peoples aspirations and dilemmas. It sounds personal, intimate and powerful.
Also it makes one think about how we all want the most "filmic" camera but with the cleanest image possible... Well it feels good to see a modern camera deliver such a nice and authentic feeling picture - but oh well I love my NX1 too so I'm not to be convinced of thatAnyway it's a great video, just saw you got an article about it on nofilmschool too. Totally deserve it and more ! We'll probably get to talk some more around other geeky topics

I would much rather have the smaller one hand held ones posted.
If you think about it for $2245 you can buy the Nibula 4000 for $700 and have $1545 left to buy a small 4k camera like the NX500 or Black magic pocket or the other brand coming out should let you use a NX1 or GH4 all for that same price and more easy and less pounds to deal with. Or get the $400 version and a 4k Gopro for $1000

I would like to agree with you Ed, but for now the footage I saw from the nebula doesn't look very natural (you can tell when someone is walking for ex.). And it's also very much time consuming to calibrate.
I would spend 2k for a 3axis gimbal under 2kg, with auto calibration, and 2k load.But I love these small gimbals for urban work. It can be very cool, if they only made it easier to work with and better overall.

I hooked an external TV (Samsung) once - outputting 1080p while recording 4K.
The image was extremely contrasted and saturated on the tv. Looked kinda weird. Was happy afterward to check my footage on my computer and notice that everything was fine... So not a great experience from my part. But very limited experience too. Not so relevant I guess... -
Probably more from vimeo compression than the camera. And possibly from the grade. I think. I have not had time to shoot much with my NX1 and it's been shitty weather since I got the camera. But from everything I have shot, no banding, at least thats what my eyes see
It is still difficult to attribute banding to conversion or camera. I think the camera introduces a decent amount of macro blocking and banding, and the conversion makes it worse. But even converting to 4444 doesn't solve this issues. So I'm not sure who's responsible.
Only a comparison with an external recorder could really bring an answer... -
I don't understand this strange debate...
The NX1 is very reliable - considering software. And Samsung has been very reactive in correcting bugs - the most annoying I think being the exposure shift, which has been corrected. The only reason I could see a pro not trusting this camera would be because of the 420 8 bits + H265 - making it a very compress solution with limited grading possibilities.But I used this camera in Asia, America, south america, europe, on planes, with high temperatures differences, and it never failed me.

I should say it's lighter than Ronin and more functional and professional than Came-TV.

I'm about to pull the trigger as well. I picked up the Lumix GM1 when it came out, hoping to be able to use it with one of several announced single-handed gimbals like the Mastor Sailfish, but as far as I know, none of them ended up being released. Now that pricing has come down, I've been going back and forth between the soon-to-be-released Came-Mini ($1,188) and the new Defy G2X ($1,995) for my Lumix GH4, but decided I'd get the Came. I can use the $800 savings to pick up one of the new Veydra cinema lenses.
I was also interested in the defy G2X and in the nebula 4000 (although it have some downsides), but the MOZA seems like a nice alternative too with built in wireless remote and wireless video output...

I can't see any difference so far in terms of quality between Prores HQ in rocky mountain vs iffmpeg. But iffmpeg does give you the ability to encode in ProRes 4444. While it might seem huge overkill, in certain precise situations it might be a little bit better than HQ (I would only use it on very specific shots with heavy macro blocking for ex.).
Now that being said Rocky Mountain is so much faster that I'm sticking with it for now !
(and I did buy iffmpeg so I'm not biased)

So no (or minimal) macroblocking in the H265. That means it's in the conversion - whew!
Will someone please please please do a nice test with this camera and a 7Q+ or Shogun...?
I would say its 50/50. Since we can't edit the native footage we can't be a 100% sure. It is mostly when you start tweaking and toying with the footage that most of the macro blocking appears. So we would need to be able to play with it natively to assert that it is not an issue. But I do think that it is still there in certain situations.
And the best way to go around it, as always, is to know the camera, experiment, and understand which situations are more likely to produce banding, or macro blocking.
We will not get a 1500€ camera with raw recording or even 422 10 bits prores recording for some time.
For now the best camera IMHO in this price range (although still more expensive) is the combo A7S + Shogun. But its a big combo with a lot of ergonomic issues. Most of us don't want that. We mostly want easy and light DSLRs for some work, and REDs or Alexas for others. IMHO the sony A7S has a weird positioning in terms of price and portability. But I still love the image it produces. As I also love the image the NX1 produces, and seeing the faces of my co workers when I show them "raw" footage of the NX1 and they're like :"but it looks graded already !". Meaning as a compliment. You got love that -
Yaa but still AF is a Adobe product same as Premiere not Apple and Apple has not let out all the info on Prores for Adobe to use it right so Adobe and others make it work as best they can in their programs. I use Edius and that is what they told me about Prores that the information is not released from Apple for anyone to use it 100% right except them. They told me not to use it do to problems like that i now use the Edius code called HQX that they clams is better then Prores for editing in their program. I will say it creates files that work a lot better when editing for the 4K files i edit. The Prores files do not play well at all and the HQX files play at almost real time. When i update my Video card i should then get real time with some effects applyed.
I really like Edius its been around almost as long as Premiere you need to get used to their interface they have tons of hidden menus and tools it is feature rich like Premiere and FCP but was a closed system for a long time that is now more open so a lot of 3rd party plug ins do not work with it yet but the list is slowly growing. It has a lot of speed advantages for editing and tv production use.

Could be Premiere on a PC as Prores is a Apple thing and Premiere dose not 100% have it right from what i have read.

Just tried with Rocky Mountain Converter.
Settings : Quality Prores 422 HQ. Resolution/Frame rate same as source.The conversion speed is insanely faster than iffmpeg... Crazy...
The results seems comparable to iffmpeg Prores HQ.Here is a video showing the result with Rocky mountain. At the end a comparison between Rocky mountain converter (left) and iffmpeg 4444 (right).

Marco Tecno: Gamma DR, with contrast - 5 and saturation about -2 or -3. Sharpness between -5 and 0. (I try to recall as it was 2 weeks ago).
No change to master pedestal. Range 0-255.DigitalEd: Editing in Premiere Pro CC 2014. And I'm thinking that maybe I should run a test in AE or FCPX to compare.

I think you need to try a NX1, and see if the colors you can get out of it (before and after grading) gives you satisfaction. Colors is a very personal matter so I think it would be very difficult to advise you.
Personally I have experienced colors problem with the NX1 when working with low end lighting. But for everything else I'm very happy with the colors it produced. I only wish there was a less compress / color grading friendly codec. H265 is very compressed, and for now there is no way to edit natively so... I'd say: get one and see if you like what you can get out of it.
