Take away from highlight shadow in mode (lower contrast) with a 8bit codec. You loose the color information. Simply LX100 is a no video oriented device it laks a fundamental settings like a cine profile (aka gh4 for example) and a dedicated movie mode

Exaclty The LX100 is a compact toy to replace smatrphone if you want a video or photo better than smartphones, or if you want a (limited) B roll cam. Other device FZ1000 and specially GH4 put in your hand a complete device pro device with the characteristic if you underline.

For my opinion LX100 is overrated and overestimated. Nothing special come from a real users sample on the network like flikr and other site. The lens is soft at corner very soft and plenty of chromatic aberrations especially in buildings border on particular light conditions. The video is truly affected by annoying moire thing that there is no in GH4 or FZ1000 video samples. The readout of LX100 in 4K s no 1:1 for preserve the widest angle possible... This added to a problem discussed in previous posts suggests that LX100 is overrated product. Nothing more than compact premium toy not absolutely professional. This is my opinion.

In conclusion LX100 is a device predominant oriented versus photo with a camera body that copy old layout film cameras. LX100 isn't a hybrid device it has a limited very limited video mode and lacks some essential video features. LX7 at least had a separate video mode. I don't buy a LX100

For movie manual mode dial and a creative movie mode with separate settings from photo is essential. In LX100 lack for example a lever to switch by photo mode and video mode

Exactly the LX100 does not put in the pockets, I might as well make it really professional. It took a no insert an audio jack for microphone, a screen tiltable, a ring of PASM control. A creative movie mode with manual CINE Styles, pedestal, and luminance. A sort of form factor like the Nikon P7800. Then the camera would dream even if it cost $ 1,000. So it's not, it's just a toy too compact, and not a device truly pro expecially for limited video versatility. LX100 is device well balanced only for photos.

LX100 mistakes... No mode dial (LX7 had a mode dial), no separate creative movie mode replaced by annoying video "mode" (LX7 had it), lack of all CINE profile, lack of mic-in, no live HDMI monitoring, no tiltable screen... Clear panasonic choice to protect GH4... for me FZ1000 is a clear winner for video even if has a smaller sensor and "darker" lens

Andrew a FZ1000 review. FZ1000 is a baby GH4 for video features. LX100 is ok faster lens ecc but lack a mic in, separate video mode, CINE profiles I wait a FZ1000 review and after i use my 900$ for one of this two cameras. I have only 900$ and i would make the perfect choice without any regret

No HDMI output in LX100 is only for playback. FZ1000 and GH4 has monitoring

If you not have the possibility to invest more than 2000$ in GH4 plus a good lens (for example the 12-35 2.8). Take, for a good compromise, the FZ1000 that has a good 1" sensor, a good fixed (relatively fast 2.8-4) all purpose lens and a lot of GH4 features like a luminance control, mic in, CINE styles, 1:1 sensor transfer in 4K, dedicated movie mode and a solid form factor with very similar control to GH4. The LX100 not has these features and has a "hanged movie mode" with a non 1:1 sensor readout directly to 4K stream (a pixel in sensor is a pixel on 4K stream) For a budget around 800$ take FZ1000 hand down. This camera impressed Andrew as he said in a previous thread or article.

FZ1000 is truly a fantastic camera for video, and even more with this firmware update. LX100 lacks most of essential video features like CINE styles, control of luminance, separate video mode, flip-out screen and mic input. The look of FZ1000 is amazing solid and well constructed very similar in controls to GH4. The lens in very good and sharp in entire zoom range. I wait a review

For a cost of 7-800 dollars, would highly recommend to have a video package really rich, the purchase of FZ1000. Excellent video quality, microphone in, presence of CINE styles, adjustable luminance, HDMI monitoring . Excellent lens, slower than the LX100 but still excellent, 1 inch BSI sensor really powerful. Form factor and controls very similar to GH4

I doenloaded both 4K from youtube the official and from vimeo the cameralabs test. My monitor is not 4K but i see artifacts (moire + alias) only in camelalabs clips, and a 4K video from GH4 or FZ1000 original downloaded from vimeo not present artifacts in my screen

I hope.. The question is by looking at the "flat" sample of cameralabs. If you download the 4K source from Vimeo. The video is suffering from terrible moire that there isn't in sample of the GH4 or FZ1000 found in internet However, the question remains For example in this (official) sample there is no trace of moire ... And the video is spectacular. Completly different from cameralabs samples....

Infact moire is caused not by the stabilization but by the not 1:1 crop of sensor in 4K mode. The moire is present on IS on and IS off because affect the sensor image processing (not 1:1 but a crop and scale according to cameralabs) For clean video get the GH4 or for the same money as LX100 get the FZ1000 Is a clear Panasonic (moire, no mic input, no CineLike styles) choice to protect the GH4 (with 1:1 crop 4K the LX100 will have better quality than GH4 + 12-35 2.8). Enormous moire that LX100 4K mode has make this camera not ideal for video

For 700-800 take the FZ1000 it has more of GH4 features and a true 1:1 crop in 4k mode. Ok is a 1 inch sensor but it perform very well (is a sony BSI found in RX10 - RX100(2-3)). For 7-800 FZ1000 offer a lot more video features (CINE Style and mic input) that LX100 not has. Te moire in LX100 is a terrible limitations that move me away from this camera

I am an avid video recording professionally. I put here my thoughts about the LX100. For as far as the video, the Lumix LX100 has a lot of limitations and some problems too big. At first glance, reading the specs, the camera seems to promise very well. However, lack of important features for the video found on GH4 and FZ1000. First the presence of color profiles (CINE-D and CINE-V) essential to better manage the dynamic range and offer versatility grading. Also missing the input for an external microphone is essential to implement a superior sound quality. But what is of concern is a major problem affecting the quality of 4K video. Since the early samples that are in the network, including flat setup is known as the 4K video suffers from obvious and annoying moire especially in areas with thick horizontal lines (edges of buildings, shutters and corrugated iron). This apparently is due to the crop sensor operated by the LX100 mode 4K. Contrary to what happens in GH4 and FZ1000, using a crop 1:1, the LX100 performs both a crop and scaling, and this introduces annoying moire. Regarding the video this is a big problem that will come out to those who have purchased the LX100. As for the video for the money that one spends on the LX100, one can buy the fabulous FZ1000 because it combines many of the features found on GH4 (CINE Profiles, microphone, live HDMI output ("clean")). Of course, the FZ1000 equips a smaller sensor (1 inch), but the quality of the sensor by an inch BSI is really good and competes evenly with a micro 4/3 sensor under 1600ISO producing a clean image and low noise is in the video than in the pictures (especially if processed from RAW). We look forward to some more testing on the LX100 but the moire 4K jumps out immediately thanks to the crop is not 1:1. For 7-800 bucks highly recommend the FZ1000 for those wanting a camera from solid and very, very competitive in the video that comes close if not equal to the GH4 at low ISO (<= 800). In addition, the FZ1000 equips a great lens very sharp and fast enough. Ok the LX100 has a slightly larger sensor and a faster lens but has major problems and limitations in the video expecially moire in 4K (not present in FZ1000 and GH4). We look forward to various tests. Here is an example af 4K video. The source is recorded in flat profile (all -5) and shows a lot of annoying moire.
