  1. "generaion loss" and 4:2:0 subsampling do not cause colour shifts, ProRes has other issue (gamma shift), for Vimeo/Youtube upload, the safest way is using a medium-bitrate codec with .mxf wrapper, usually AVC-Intra 100 works the best.
  2. check your operating system for any ICC/ICM profiles and completely remove them all, reexport and reupload.
  3. I did the shadow recovery comparison in my 1DX II vs 1DC test, both using neutral profile and shadow raised drastically, they both show same amount of detail recovered but 1DX II showed a bit more chroma noise.
  4. Also currently there's no checksum when offloading footage, there's a high risk of bad frames.
  5. Only A6300 comes close in terms of autofocus
  6. It is very clear that 1DX II in neutral profile performs the same, if not worse, as 1D C.
  7. The camera wasn't damaged, not even a scratch, it was caught by an onlooker.
  8. This is a better test: C-log as is: std gamma, -4 contrast:
  9. If you look at my test, their ISO performance is the same, in neutral profile they have the exact exposure at each ISO rating. It's just that C-Log maps midtone differently so it appears to be darker. It's intended to be brought back to normal level in grading/by C-log LUT. This is very likely a flaw in their test methodology, the exposure has to be kept the same (same ISO, same apeture, same shutter). What this test does not tell you is the difference in highlight roll off, as you've seen in my real world controlled test, 1DX II clips more harshly, Cinestyle raises shadow and it does not recover anymore highlight detail compared with neutral with -4 contrast (this has been researched before).
  10. Cinema5D lab test is up: https://***URL not allowed***/canon-1d-x-mark-ii-vs-canon-1d-c-which-one-shoots-better-video/ I don't understand why they used ISO800 and different aperture when comparing DR:
  11. the Canon 11-24 is pretty stellar, plus the camera can remove chromatic abberation and lens vignette in camera on the fly when doing video.
  12. Cinema 5D mini review is up: https://***URL not allowed***/canon-eos-1d-x-mark-ii-review-real-world-video-samples-first-impressions/
  13. Resolve 12.5 has colour space transform FX, absolutely the best, without the issues that come with traditional LUT
  14. Back at NAB I asked the Canon rep (a regional manager or something), he told me 1DX II was not a replacement for 1DC, later I called and confirmed this also. I don't think a 1DC II is likely though.
  15. No, it's misinformation from low level Canon staff, 1DC is still in production and remains in the Cinema EOS lineup, you can call +1 800-CINE-EOS to verify this.
  16. Shooting C-log and colour grading C-log has a steep learning curve. Most of the issues can be avoided if handled properly. "Knock Knock" starring Keenu Reeves was shot on 1DC with C-log and it looked fantastic.
  17. This chart is for RAW stills, we did test that and 1DX II has better shadow recovery at low ISO, but in video test this chart is completely irrelevant, 1DC has better shadow performance than 1DX II across the entire ISO range.
  18. Atomos makes some, that's the shortest you can get.
  19. Audio: stick to reference quality headphones. Speakers will sound different in different environments. External monitor: FSI BM090, small, colour accurate and can be fully calibrated. Power: https://comingsoon-tech.com/omnicharge-intelligent-portable-power-bank/
  20. Rolling shutter is about 50% of 1DC.
  21. This is a non-scientific but comprehensive comparison of 1DC and 1DX II video quality. The 1DX II was kindly provided by Toronto based photographer Paul O'Neil We tested sharpness/resolution as well as dynamic range and noise performance. Two cameras were setup side by side and kept the same exposure and white balance, videos were recorded at the same time to avoid lighting variance. Lenses were both Canon 24-70 f2.8L II, at f5.6 for optimal performance. For sharpness/resolution comparison, we used neutral profile with 0, -4, -2, 0 setting. Please view the following images using the FULL SIZE option. Test scene: Results: 1DC and 1DX II have the same sharpness in HD 24/25/30p (same sensor readout). In 50/60p, 1DX II is sharper (better sensor readout) and it kept the same sharpness at 100/120p. Super 35 mode on 1DC remains the sharpest and most detailed 1080p of all modes. Two cameras have the same sharpness in 4K. Test scenes: Results: in neutral profile with -4 contrast, 1DC and 1DX II have about the same amount of DR, however 1DX II is nosier in the shadow (more chroma noise). 1DC in C-Log gives more detail in the highlight. Other observation: with the same white balance setting, 1DX II colour seems slightly warmer and a tad desaturated than 1DC in neutral profile. Conclusion: 1DX II is a camera with advanced video capabilities (HD 120p, 4K 60p, DPAF), 1DC still deserves its "C" badge for the very detailed Super 35mm HD and higher DR C-Log. Which one is more suitable totally depends on user's need. Download original 1DX II clips: https://we.tl/4HOdgVNXhI (contains TIFF version of the comparison and HD 120p and 4K 60p clip from 1DX II)
  22. Difficult match, see my post on the other 1DX II thread. External recorder bypass the 30min limit, note that BVA does not do pull down internally, you end up getting PsF files and need to manually set pulldown in post.
  23. Did a shootout with 1DX II and 1DC in a park today, had a quick look at the files when importing them. Here are the preliminary results: 1. Full frame HD video 24/30p they are the exactly the same quality in terms of sharpness and detail. 2. 1DX II 60P/120p are softer than HD 24/30p, but very slightly better than 1DC 60p. 3. 4K mode they have exactly the same quality in terms of sharpness and detail. 4. 1DX II and 1DC have about the same dynamic range when using neutral profile (0, -4, -2, 0), 1DX II has more chroma noise in the deep shadow but less pattern noise (vertical stripes). C-log on 1DC gives a lot more highlight headroom. 5. In neutral profile 1DX II is warmer and slightly desaturated than 1DC. Original clips from the camera will be available for download.
  24. Alexa/Amira has a rolling shutter latency of about 5ms, it's virtually invisible in most situation, even film cameras have "rolling shutter" (different characteristics but due to the rotating shutter, not the entire film plane is exposed in the same time, like a digital global shutter camera would do),
  25. This was shot entirely using 1080/60p with C-Log on 1DC, with proper handling, it's nowhere near "pure shit".
