  1. Videomaker.com just released a video review of the A6300, and displayed it's RS @6:43 and it looks pretty horrid. But I guess it looks similar to the a7s, gh4, etc.

  2. Smallhd HD 501 or 701/702 lite series seem to be most inexpensive option for LUT monitoring.

But your better off saving a lil more and get a monitor w/a recorder like a Atomos shogun/assassin, Pix-5E. The atomos have dropped in price too.

Last option would be O7Q+ which is the best of all of them but cost the most but it's only around $1,800 new, and cheaper pre-owned.

  3. I saw a review by wolfcrow that was made a month or so ago. And mentioned several negatives that pushed me away from it. Also said it introduced unwanted flaring or halo I think.

This current review seems a lot better! Thanks!

  4. If only BM releases their cams on time! Lol

Agree with above, Sony is a great option as well. FS7, etc. which is the direction I'm going.

But depends on your budget for a camera setup. The RED Raven is well over $10K plus accessories for a ready to shoot kit.

Your jumping way up to a different tier, a ~$1K bmpcc to a $10K plus if you go RED.

Pick a camera that has the features you want/need now. But still fits within your budget.

    Good luck

  5. When is this damn camera gonna be available and shipping out!?!

NAB is next month! They might announce another new camera, and post a shipping time of summer 2016 for that camera. While these cameras are still on pre-order status from last year NAB. =(

What they should announce, is that they aren't making any new cameras and focused on shipping out their current pre-orders! Lol

I'm a bit suspicious of those results. I have the feeling that either the tester, the FS7 or the Odyssey is doing something weird. Download and do a test grade on these FS700 RAW files and see if you think they are noisy or unusable. http://blog.domisljije.si/2013/07/18/raw-fs700/

What do you mean when you say that you hope they will enable 4K over HDMI? 4K(UHD) @ 8-bit 4:2:2 is already output over HDMI. If you mean that you hope they will enable 10-bit UHD or 4K DCI, then I think you will be disappointed. I'm pretty sure that the FS5 is hardware limited to 8-bit over HDMI. If I was you, I'd sell that Assassin and get a Shogun. The price difference isn't that much anymore.

I was under the impression HDMI output on the FS5 was limited to HD only, and SDI output was 4K.

Yeah I may have to rethink about selling the assassin for a Shogun or Pix-E5.

Of course that's if I end up choosing the FS5. But I think I'll wait further until all the major firmware updates are released for the FS5.

Overall, the FS5 is much better than the A7S or A7R as a video camera. The ergonomics, variable ND, audio capabilities, 10-bit 1080 recording and a sensor that is less prone to rolling shutter artifacts are all big pluses. The only scenarios where the A7Sii or A7Rii win out is in very low light and in auto focus. Personally, I'd use the FS5 as the "A" camera and the A7Sii/A7Rii as "B" cameras or when needed for poorly lit conditions.

Arguably, the biggest advantage of the FS5 will be it's ability to output 12-bit linear RAW. This will be an absolute killer.

That's good to know, but when RAW output is released I'm hoping I don't have to sell my atomos assassin for an O7Q+ or Shogun.

Maybe they will enable 4K HDMI like the FS7 with it's latest firmware V3, discussed at

    http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?344155-FS7-Firmware-v3-Format-Tests

According to an FS7 user 4K HDMI yielded the best results versus 4K RAW. Maybe this will also reflect the FS5 when raw is enabled.

Either way I'm hoping the Assassin can be utilized with the FS5, when the firmware updates are released soon.

  8. I'm really hoping the FS5 continues to gain more improvements. Since I'm on the fence on buying an A7SII. Mainly due to its low light capabilities.

But I don't know if I should just wait a bit longer and save up more, then pull the trigger on a FS5.

Cause I don't necessarily need a new camera right now. I can wait for a better option than the A7SII.

A dedicated video camera is higher on my list than a hybrid video/stills cam.

    What do you guys think?

  9. From a conversation I had with their marketing dept. via email. They don't plan on making 2x due to the cost of manufacturing it. So I guess 1.33x is all we will be seeing for now.

Unless that is just their way of not releasing any info until they have a solid product ready to go.

For the price it's best to just rent it, that's if rental houses want to purchase these for rentals.

  10. IF GH5 goes S35, they should implement a m43 mode that center crops the sensor to allow m43 lens coverage. That way m43 lenses won't become obsolete for future GH lines. It would be a pretty sweet dual system.

Along with higher DR, 10-bit internal, clean iso up to 6400, 4K-60p or 4K-100p, 1080-240p, vlog 2.0, vlog assist(like Sony a7s2), uncompressed hdmi, and other features.

I'm not ecstatic about 5K/6K/etc., just give us awesome 4K features. If I want 5k and up I'd rent a RED or something.
