  1. Saw this guy on ebay: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/121644005255?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Not anamorphic, but of interest enough to post.

Also, any idea how they are achieving these horizontal streaks?

I have a couple helios lenses kicking around and would love to try my hand at modifying them, but I wouldn't know where to start. If anyone knows any resources on the web please send them my way.

  2. this is the PL mount i manufacture for the TRUMP lenses.  and it's specifically designed to work with eos-pl adaptors.  if the back of your lens looks close to this it will work.  the step is very important since the eos-pl adaptors get thinner towards the camera side.  off the top of my head I think the length of the pl mount after the ears is 7mm, then it steps to the thinner diameter.  if your lens has a bigger rear on its PL mount you might need a new remounting, or have your canon hard mounted to PL - which removes the ef mount of the camera all together

Your mount looks much nicer than mine. :)

The total depth of mine is 14mm, but it doesn't step down like yours although it does taper off. (mine posted below)

Hopefully the ceico7 adapter works, I'd rather not have to start with remounting the lens.

Thanks again for all the info Rich. Much appreciated!

  3. I'll second ceico7.  Stuff I've got from ebay from untested sources has nearly always proved to be a waste of time/money.  So I just pay for that good polish stuff now.

The one thing I'll point out is that if the pin is out of alignment it won't matter on the foton-A like it does on other anamorphics.  Normally, for example any of the OCT19 lenses, it would skew the image, but that won't be an issues with the foton since it is a two piece lens and the anamorphic portion is aligned to the rails, and not to the mount.  So the spherical will be "out of alignment", but the anamorphic part will be aligned, so you won't be able to tell.

If the lens is out of alignment and it's a single piece, you can also always loosen the PL and then spin it to alignment and then re-tighten.  You just have to be sure and get your back focus correct.

Awesome. Thanks for the tip, Russell!

Ordering a ceico7. Should have done that in the first place!

  4. the unit you have is maybe the worst available.  However if your lens wont even seat into that adaptor it probably wont fit any eos-pl adaptor.  It doesnt look like the work of RAF.  it looks like they fashioned that pl mount by hand -it's certainly not been made on a lathe!

the ciecio7 unit is the best value for money while being very close to true PL mounts manufactured by Arri however I'd hazard a guess that you lens wouldnt even fit a real arri camera.

the main problem with your adaptor from jie ying is that they havent placed the orientation pin in the correct position meaning the anamorphic wont be aligned correctly from the start.  other than that, as long as the back of your lens falls within the parameters listed in this listing, http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x474/henrykborsuk/pleosbagnetwymiary.jpg

there shouldnt be a problem - the lens should at least seat into the adaptor you have.  if the pl mount on your lens is bigger than the dims on this image, no eos-pl adaptor will work with it.

Rich, your posts are the best. You always bring such great info. Thank you. I love you. Did I just make it weird?

Anyway, the back of the lens is exactly 14mm so I'm confident that will not be the issue. I had a sneaking suspicion that the mount was not from Raf, I think his are logo'd. Perhaps the lens came from him and the mount was an abomination put on by the last owner.

In any case, I'll give the ciecio7 a try and see how it goes. If that fails, I guess I'll keep the adapter and replace the mount. Oh, the joys of buying vintage lenses!

    Thanks again!

  5. What up!  I'm looking for a someone to recommend a PL to EOS adapter. Just to be clear, I am talking about EOS body to PL lens.

I have a Foton 37-140mm in PL and I'm dying to test it out. I picked up an adapter on Ebay, but it didn't fit. The sides of the PL mount were too big for the adapter.

    See the pictures attached.

If the info is any use, the lens was converted to PL by RAF Camera (No logo on the mount, but so says the guy who sold it to me).

There seems to be a ton of adapters out there to try, but I'd love to hear some feedback from people who have some experience before I start round two on this.

    Anyone with suggestions? Tips? Anything?

Here are a few I am considering trying next:

  6. Hey everybody, I was on a gig and when I came back to the site it seemed the whole discussion went to shit with UNNAMED individuals slinging mud at each other. WTF???

I'd still love to talk to you all about the FM lens and hear your feedback and experiences. I still haven't bought one and want to hear what y'all think.

Anyhoo.... If we are allowed to continue talking about this thing let's do it.

Please post your tests, your thoughts, likes dislikes. What anamorphics you are using etc... I have many questions....

  7. Been looking for the anamorphic front for ages, but hard to justify the price. 18 months ago they went for 1200, now 3 grand.

I don't blame you, you should get the most you can on a sale. I'd do the same. We all would. But the quality of this lens does not match the current price.

  8. They are like a ghost. People claim they exist, but I've never seen one.

I have a mint foton 37-140 and have been waiting for a LOOOONG time for the anamorphic front to pop up somewhere...

I did see one a month or so back... for 12,000 bucks.

  9. I did mention earlier in this thread

Pentax 40mm f2.8 and Carl Zeiss 35mm Flektogon both work nicely .

also the Russian KMZ 45mm f3.5 Mir 26 in Kiev mount/pentacon 6 is a very nice medium format lens - great resolution and has that Russian single coating look / flare - I found this a very nice lens for the Schneider.....and its cheap on ebay too.

Also the Carl Zeiss 45mm f2.8 pancake lens in C/Y mount has that classic Zeiss pop look to it....a very very sharp combo with the schneider !!

there are alot of lens in the 35- 45mm range to use.

another nice Russian lens for character is the

    Mir-1B 37mm, f/2.8

Im sure Rich will be pleased to flog you a FF38 too as thats an option ! mutant Russian optics redone in his style .

ps I almost forgot an insanly good cheap lens is the 35mm Fujinon f1.7 (made in Japan NOT FUJIAN MADE IN CHINA ) in cmount (it needs a quick modification to fit a c mount adaptor - BUT its a steller sharp Carl Zeiss Distagon equivilent lens great contrast and colours ......insanley good and fast for shooting outside at night wide open ....

This is great info.  Thanks, Andy! Much appreciated.

  10. Can anyone with a cinelux let me know what the widest 35mm lens they can use without vignetting.

50mm seems to be the standard, but I prefer a little wider for my narrative work.

Has anyone tested a 35mm lens on a crop sensor?

Scrolled through, and didn't see it mentioned. If it is a repeat question, I apologize.

  11. Dima at conversiontopl.com told me he could convert my 35mm two piece into a single lens with a pl and focus ring for 750 (I bought my 80mm from him and he has been very trustworthy in our dealings). I think some other people convert them or re-house them but I don't have any other names (except Sergey, but he's fallen into disrepute). The catch is that after the conversion the lens still needs rails. But that's probably a conversation for another thread... (But one well worth starting!)

Trying to piece a set of these together is definitely a challenge, but I think you still have to be choosy. Hope the winners got something good though!

Thanks for the info Russell, much appreciated!

I didn't even bother bidding as I was a little iffy on the glass. And "rodina mount"? Had to google that one...

    Thanks again.

  12. I agree the 50mm's are confusing.  I'm not convinced all the information in all of those listings is correct and I'm having a hard time making sense of all of the markings so I can't concretely confirm my suspicions.  I too feel like I saw a document once that clearly outlined a lot of this stuff but can't find it right now.

I can say with reasonable certainty that the first two numbers in the serial numbers are the year they were made, which would make the 35mm's from 1981 and 1871 respectively.  The general consensus is that condition is much more important than age (mine is from 67 but makes a sharp image at T4, so go figure).  These look to be in really good condition if the pictures are to be believed, and you can have them converted to monoblock with a PL and a focus ring for about 750.  So that seems pretty reasonable if everything is on the up and up.

I'm having a hard time parsing the numbers on the 50's though.  So nothing useful for me!

Looks like they all sold for a reasonable price. DId you manage to grab one?

You mentioned that you can get these dual lenses converted to monoblock.  Do you know who is doing this? I'd love to look into it.

    Thanks!

  13. Saw this one come up recently:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/50mm-LOMO-anamorphic-camera-lens-square-front-/201176337425?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item2ed70b4c11

Can anyone positively ID this as oct-18?  It doesn't seem to be an OCT-19 but it does look like its a mono-block lens.  Is that bulky spot around the middle some sort of mod?  Any idea where the mod might have been done?  It doesn't look like my oct-19 80mm, but I'm still looking for a mono-block 50mm so if I'm mistaken I'd like to know.

The seller has listed it listed as "OCT (????)" which worries me, since she doesn't seem to know anything about it and you can't hold the seller to the claim if things go bad.  Anyone know anything?

I saw this item as well. The seller actually has 3 different 50mm square fronts and two 35mm square fronts for sale.

One of the 35mm looks 80's the other looks like a much older version.

The 50mm are confusing.  I was looking at this you posted one as well. I had found a guide explaining what all the letters meant on the front of lomos, but I can't seem to re-locate it. If anyone knows, please help!

  14. From one of comments on the Facebook page:

I'm assuming that the "rings for mounting" are what you are looking for.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

    Really excited for this thing...

  15. Thanks for the link. But I guess I wasn't clear enough. I'm looking for the circular device that is mounted on the rails and holds the lens.

Sorry for the confusion, I realize I'm not being entirely clear. I'm just not sure what to call it. "Lens hoop" "Anamorphic lens holder" "Rail mounted lens clamp"....

I've found something similar, but the one in the video is far more compact.

  16. Hey, guys,  does anyone know what rail mount he is using?

The one seen in this video:

    The hoop mount thing?

Where can I get one? It's hard to find something when you don't know what it's called.

    Thanks!

  17.

I have two cinelux 2x schneiders I grabbed very cheap this week.  being able to focus these badboys is gonna be a dream.

I have a feeling they will soon sky rocket in price...

  18. Haha, that's inevitable.
But the focusing model should work with different lenses, who knows what other gems we might find.
Also we have yet to see the price. If his adapter sells for more than £250 then I'm out.

Yeah, it's really about the price on this. I'm sold on everything else.

I imagine it will not be cheap. Film equipment never is...
