  1. Andy uses the Mitakon which works really well for him. Only thing is that this adapter does not have aperture control, so you cant use modern Nikon lenses with it. I used to have the Camdiox/RJ which works alright but have since upgraded to the Metabones

So I would have to buy full manual lenses right? Which one would you buy? The Mitakon Canon EF lens to MFT or the Nikon one?

  2. I would like to have the sensor size of the A6000, but i prefer the colors of the Gx7. So I think I will go with the Gx7 and buy a Metabones speedbooster, problem is that it is to expensive so I think I would go for the cheaper version : Mitakon. I still don't know what version of it I will buy or even what lens.

So what do you guys think? Is it a good or bad idea? Should I wait and save for a Metabones speedbooster?

  3. Daniel please don't make any decisions based on my negative comments about the A6000. As I said I've never used one. I simply wrote it off because it didn't offer me anything I didn't already have between the G6 and D5300.

However if I was choosing between the Gx7 and a6000 now, personally I would definitely choose the GX7 (but then I already own a speed booster).

Don't worry Matt, thank you for your feedback, it's been very helpful having many points of views about the strengths and weaknesses about this cameras.

I must admit that the only thing holding me back from buying a Gx7 or a G6 is the sensor size (probably also the form factor of the Gx7 as well) I just love being able to have a shallow depth of field and the a6000 gives me that right out of the box, and I think the combo GX7 plus a fast lens (panasonic 20mm f1.7) is more expensive than the A6000 and a fast lens. ( I am still looking for a good combo).

Anyway your feedback has been very helpful to me. ;)

  4. Thank you so much for your answers!

I am interested to know how the Sony RX10 and the Panasonic FZ1000 compares in terms of video quality to the Gx7 for example. So far the videos I've watched don't look very good but I know it might be because of the compression.

If they are not as good as the Gx7, I think I'll go with it. One thing I would like to have is a hdmi out to have a external monitor, but I can live without it I guess.

  5. I've been struggling to find a camera and lenses to buy, as you might see in some of my other posts. I'am not an newbie because I've been using dslr cameras for a while now but never owned my own camera, so i have been looking to all the options I have, but I still can't make a decision. I really want the best thing possible, I know I shouldn't be too picky and I should just buy any camera and start shooting with it. So I turn to you, who will have a more logical and rational answer to my question. If you had around a 1000$ what would you buy? (Camera and lens)

    Thank you

  6. What do you recommend? It would be great to have fast lenses, I don't know yet if I am going to buy a speedbooster because they are quite expensive.

For the budget, the less the better.

Please also consider that I live in France and buying vintages lenses is not as easy as in the United Sates.

    Thanks

  7. My first few days with the A6000, my last few days in Tokyo:

In some shots you can see a ripple effect. I don't think it's rolling shutter jello, I think it's the OSS on the SE35 1.8 (I say this because I haven't noticed this effect on similar shots with manual lenses). Anyone else had issues with Sony OSS? (I don't think I've seen this on stabilised Panasonic lenses)

Very nice footage and very nice grade :) Did you use some kind of LUT?

  8. I really don't know what to buy  :(

The only image I really like from a camera is the one from the bmpcc, but it's a bit out of my price range as I would need a speedbooster and maybe some Nikon AI-S lenses, and also to think of a battery solution...

I would jump eyes closed on the sony a6000 if it had the new XAVC-S codec. I really like the fact of having an APS-C sensor, which makes me go more towards this camera instead of a panasonic one.

But then again this is the real world, I can't have all I want so I'll have to deal with it...

  9. Hi I would like to ask one more question, is this a good moment to buy a camera or are there some rumors about a new "cheap" camera with great video coming down the line? Because I don't want to be the guy who buys a camera and one month later the savior of cameras comes out...

PS : What lens would you recommend for the a6000 under 500$ (prime or zoom)

  10. The answer is in the question. If dynamic range and colour space is your priority and you are shooting fiction, there is only one camera at the 1000 dollar mark that stands out. The bmpcc. If you want a larger than s16mm sensor then you have to compromise on the other stuff. The descision comes down to wide lens choices really.

You can get lovely colours and very good dynamic range from the d5300. Of the 8bit cameras around 1000 dollars that's the one I'd choose to shoot fiction with. I haven't seen any conclusive evidence the gx7 is superior in low light - not that that matters too much for fiction -

Yes, I am considering buying the bmpcc with canon EF to bmpcc active Metabones Speed Booster to get as close as I can to APS-C, even if I have to pay more. So far the image out of the bmpcc is the one I like the most.

Would you know if Black Magic are preparing a new pocket cinema camera? Are there any rumors?

    Thanks.

  11. In terms of mFT and apsc your two best choices I think are the Panasonic gx7 and Nikon d5300. The Nikon has possibly better dynamic range and colours but the gx7 is sharper, handles a lot better and is also surprisingly better at high isos.

The thing is you also have to consider lenses. One of the reasons I went from Nikon to Panasonic actually was because I wanted a 35mmm equivalent lens at a reasonable price.

You might want to consider the soon to be released Panasonic lx100 which has a really nice lens fixed to it, all for just $899.

I would not recommend the a6000. The iq is simply not as good as either of the other two.

    Thank you for answers.

  12. Julian

Do you have lenses already? If yes, what do you have? If not, is there a separate budget for them?

Just for the camera, sub $1000, I'd suggest Sony A6000 or the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera (shame the price drop is over though). Two completely different camera's. You'll have to see what suits your use.

The Sony A6000 is easy to use and versatile (aps-c-sensor, can use speed booster, practically every lens fits). Cheap and I don't think there are other aps-c-cameras with better quality out of the box.

The BlackMagic will give you raw and great quality (not in low light though) but the small sensor needs specific glass (and/or speed booster) and it way less practical in use (huge files, ergonomics/battery life suck).

I don't have any lens right now, and yes there is a separate budget for them.

Thank you for your answers, well I am going to have a deeper look on the A6000 (I hope that sony is going to implement xavc-s) and the GX7, I also want to see what the lx100 can deliver.

I just saw the video from the Nikon D750, and the colors look so lovely, too bad it's way out my price range. I was really hoping to see more exciting stuff at Photokina specially from Canon...

  13. Hi I would like to know what are the options out there in that price range (I don't really mind paying a little bit more if it is worth it) I am open to all manufacturers I don't have a special preference.

What would you recommend? And why?

I would mostly use it for short films.

The things I care the most are dynamic range and color space, also having a (APS-C) sensor would be great even though I don't really mind having a MFT sensor but something smaller than that might be problematic.

Thank you for your answers :)

  14. Yep, actually that rolling shutter is the only that it's making me hesitate between the GH4 and the sony A7s, and now with the canon price drop I think I should be patient and wait to see what they are going to do.

Well right now I guess I am just going to wait and see...
