  4. ​Don't get me wrong but you are free to "see" what you like, but you should accept that the truth might be far off. I don't own any Samsung products and I don't want to start a brand war, but just because Samsung is not followed by a cult does not mean it is not innovating. It is not by chance that Samsung is the leader manufacturer of phones, tables, TVs, SSDs ... And these are end products. Samsung is second to Intel on semiconductor sales. As far as cameras, look what they have achieved with the NX1. That is the first iteration of these series and yet it surpasses many... The real bottleneck of digital cameras and where innovation is needed, is where Samsung shines: electronic circuits.
  5. I think Samsung realized that the "low end" video market is quite big, so two models like A-style makes sense. I just hope for an improvement on the rolling shutter.

  9. Just keep in mind that if you are shooting close to 1.5X it is better to use the APS-C crop since it is more detailed.
  10. ​Ok I forgot to add the crop that is "necessitated" by the mode 1 IS. Maybe the crop mode actually does what is supposed to, and the low resolution is due to pure aliasing. I will test the two modes sometime this week and see if there is any difference.
  11. How sure are you that aliasing is what kills the image? I guess you mean aliasing instead of moire, or do you mean moire specifically? Aliasing + spatial blurring can give indeed the effect that we get with the E-Mx series. But if that is the case then a AA filter will in theory improve the resolution for these shots. Two other cases would be that they read less than 1080 lines and upsample or their debayering algorithm sucks for data created from line skipping. The solution to these two problems is straight forward (read 1080 lines or improve the algorithm). Now even though for the type of shooting that I do resolution is the least of my concerns, I would still enjoy a better tool. I am not sure what the problem actually is but I have the following suggestions to Olympus: 1. Enable a ~2.4x crop that will read the 1080 lines just next to each other and use the same algorithms that are used normally be the camera. Does anybody know how the 2 modes of crop actually work now? 2. Enable sampling from all the 2592 lines and downsample to 1080 .

  13. ​Don't get me wrong, it is not optimal and it should be addressed with a firmware update. But if you want to adjust just a single parameter such as aperture or iso, it is not as "useless" as it is portrayed to be. If you set it in either parameter once, it will stay on that parameter so pushing the ok button will allow you to dial in the compensation right away. Now if you want to change multiple things then ... bad luck. Personally (again personally) I find it hard to keep up with framing and focusing at the same time so adding two more parameters will make it impossible. Sometimes though I need to adjust the exposure and I am fortunate that I have a manual lens to do so. I see the need for the easiest way to change the exposure with an automatic lens, you want to make something that is already hard a bit easier.
  14. It has been made a big deal but it is not that cumbersome. You can just push a button before rotating the front dial.
  15. John you are great! Its good to know that I shouldn't wait for an videocentric update of my E-M1. Do you know what is the official channel of communication with Olympus? Because I have sent feedback to many companies, but never gotten a response or even an indication that they took it into account. Maybe if it comes through established filmmakers such as yourself will make an actual impact? At your site you mention that you would like a 10bit output and higher bitrate. While that would be awesome, do you think it is possible via a firmware update? Also did you have any experience with the HDMI output after the v1.0 firmware? One last thing : You mention that you used a relatively flat setting. Is there a reason you didn't use the curves to flatten it more? What is your experience on this? Thanks again for all your input.

  17. ​ We need to come up with a list of important things to improve on that are actually feasible. I would put the following: 1. Adjusting aperture/ISO with the dials without the need to press the ok button. 2. Locking the AWB. AWB is very accurate but we need to lock it during the shot. 3. Being able to control the temperature and tint with the two dials. Anything else?
  18. ​I have been playing with the idea of the 0 deg shutter and 24p too. Either I got used to the 30p from E-M1 or there is something else going on because the 180 seems more like 360 for some reason.
  19. ​Not an error it is a feature of the camera. Maybe reporting it so others can replicate it. Adjusting the curves actually allows for a lot of control!
  20. ​Olympus is right there with Fuji on the stuff that they add with firmware updates. They just hadn't focused on video in the previous cameras.
  21. ​If you want to adjust both the ISO and the aperture in the same shot then yes, as is it is impractical. But if you want to adjust just one parameter then you can select it in the LCD quick adjust panel before the shot, and then when need to change it you push the OK button and rotate the front dial. So the dial does work after all but you need to press the OK button beforehand.
  22. I agree with that. ​Contrast should act on the whole range whereas curves can be split in to the two halves of the range. A contrast decrease should be equal to increasing the shadows and decreasing the highlights. I haven't done extensive testing but have you noticed any difference? What I have seen is that E-M5ii with the better codec allows for a bit flatter profile without messing up color as much. But this requires more testing.
