yep, primes are the best. :P

Zooms tend to look bad with anamorphics.
Rotating front zooms are even worse, and modern lenses don't go well either.
-
No no, a Helios should do just fine. On the 5D3, you need 85mm to avoid vignette, but ~60mm should suffice for APS-C.
-
most important thing of all: which camera are you using?
-
I believe that when he says Iscorama he means this thing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iscorama
Which is the "anamorphic holy grail" so far, and WAS produced by ISCO.
-
And how that works, Tony? About focusing, and image quality, etc etc
-
Wow, maybe it's something like the Video Attachment I, but smaller?
It went pretty cheap...
-
Since I was already gonna ask a few questions to the guys at Van Dieme, I also asked about the 54. They said they're working on the design, but it might take a while. I'm not interested in rehousing the 54 (yet), for the reasons mentioned above, by Bioskop.

wouldnt stretching it possibly make it softer vs squeezing
this is my current thought, since downscaling something makes it look better than upscaling.
-
Well, I squeeze it too, since no webplayer supports anything larger than 1080p resolution. :)

I gotta get back my 0.25 diopter to test this!
Along the last year I've read multiple times that diopters between the anamorphic and taking lens would not work properly... I just got confused about maximum focusing distance (maybe I missed a line or so of what he said). It's limited within the diopter range, right?
ps - the LA7200 also performs very well combined with Canon 16-35mm f/2.8
-
I was going to say the same, but elubes got here first.
It's only challenging when the lens doesn't flare much.
-
-
I'm gathering funds - and guts - to ship it there too. Can you PM me with some more information about time required for the rehousing, and costs? :)

So why did you want to rehouse it and make it double focus.?
just askin' :)
Hahahaha, good point.
I like it the way it is, I just think it can be improved (like almost anything else, even Iscos). And not so much "double focus" on the rehousing, but more of a "variable focus through" where the focus range isn't so limited without the diopters, nor so picky like a regular double focus lens. According to tests, you can 'set' the Panny to focus from X to Y meters, and rack focus only with the taking lens. :P

2) And then the other thing is when I'm testing my own anamorphics, the source light just off frame produces an intense purple flare (almost opaque) at the frames edge in addition to the normal flares I'm used to. Where's that purple flare coming from? My anamorphic or the taking lens? I was using a Helios and a Kowa 16-S.
Hey Erik!
Kowas and Sankors are particularly famous for their vignetting when light sources are pointed directly inside it, because the inner parts of the body reflect the light and end up showing in the frame.
(please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading about this on another thread, and getting results from personal testing)

Errr.... weirdest tutorial ever. Technically, according to it, you would end up removing your coatings if you just cleaned your lenses frequently.
I wouldn't do it.

It's diopter paradise now!

If I'm not mistaken, you should be safe from 85mm up on the 5D3 if you intend to use the WHOLE 3.56:1 image. If you're going to crop the sides to 2.4:1, then you can go with 55mm and up. :)

After many attempts, I finally got it out using a mechanic squeezer (?). :P
