And you'd buy a BMC instead of a RED One MX for what reason exactly?
Have you ever used one? Great camera but an absolute beast. I shoot nature, predominently. The thought of carrying a kitted out R1 up a mountain trail is not something i want to do again. Add to that - lack of QT, less DR, proprietry media.

If you are studio based, or have really great support gear and an AC built like a tank, then it is a stunning, stunning deal though. The image quality is undeniable.

And Dragon boasts 15+ stops of dynamic range and 6k resolution, which comfortably beats Sony. That is what I base my statement on.
Yea, the RED-One-M boasted 12 stops and was measured around 9-10. RED boasts, it's what they do.

    Sony WILL hit 14 stops.

Regarding your point... Sony is newer technology, yes, and better technology... It is nothing for RED to be ashamed of, just the nature of the beast.

As for RED being super generous, great amazing guys. Yea, they have made some cool moves, but, sensor upgrades aside (and probably expensive new SSDs, modules etc to work with the sensor).... Those days are over. They have just as many ways to squeze you for a $ as Sony or anyone else.

And to note.... I am saving my money for a high end camera and RED may well get my $$$s.... I couldn't care less about the logo on the side, or the business choices they make... As long as what is important to me is there, I will buy.

I feel that Sony are a year or two behind Red on the signal processing side (don't forget the Epic has been around two years now with similar specs).
Based on what? On paper (and judging by the F65 footage), the Sony F55 will beat RED on DR, low light, colour rendition, will have a higher native ISO, high FPS, better codec choices and has a CCD sensor. The only tick RED has left is 5K output and the F65 just trumped that with 8K.

Sony are currently ahead of RED in every aspect, with the excepetion of personal choice aspects, eg, ergonomics, customer service etc and possibly price, when the dust settles.

Well, you know what... to me, I DO need these things... and it's up to INDIVIDUALS to decide this.
Guess what... I'm an individual too and for certain work, i need what i consider to be professional tools. It is not being elitist, I just have to have NDs, XLRs etc. It speeds up my work, saves me time and money and is quite fail safe. Individual needs.

I'm not partisan to Canon. If BMCC make an ENG style camera for $2000.. happy days. But until anyone does... I HAVE to use what works in a professional enviroment and the C100 ticks alot of boxes and produces better IQ than the AF100 that I have been using for such work.

If you need 4K/RAW/120fps, go buy/rent an Epic or even a 2nd hand R1-MX... It's here, its priced well, it works well... What are you doing on here talking about GoPro and C100?... The camera with the specs you need to shoot your feature on is here, right now. Get to work, make it happen.

Don't blame companies for not allowing your dream to happen, it is up to you to go and make the money to buy the specs you want.

You have to be a blind, non-critical thinker, who's terrible with money/investments, to even entertain the idea of a C100 purchase for more than 3 seconds.
I'm still waiting to test one, but if it has an image similar to the C300, I will make my investment back in 3-6 months... Easily.

The cameras you mentioned (I have a BMCC on pre-order btw) are great but they are not designed for fast paced, ENG style work or even cinematic shooting out of the box.... they all need alot of kit to get them up to the C100 level of professional shooting. You moan about needing an external recorder but seem more than happy to have to accomodate and pay for a mattebox and interchanable ND filters (variable NDs do not cut it, for me).

If you were shooting a wedding.... What would you prefer... a C100 or some frankenrig of a GH3, BMCC or, most laughably, the Go-Pro you mentioned?

It is not for you, fine... Don't pin your views onto everyone else though and think we are stupid for wanting NDs, XLRs, pro I/Os and various other pro features that simply don't come with the budget cameras you mention.

Horses for courses. I've not always agreed with Andrew Reid, but at least he saw the potential of the C100 and didn't bash it into the ground.
  6.
Then there is the C100... which is so pathetic, I can't even stand to talk about it with any shred of sanity. Does canon think it's 2005?
Are you serious? The C100 looks to be a fantastic camera for anyone who is actually doing real camera work and not under the assumption that you need 4K/120p/RAW to do anything of substance.

S35, beautiful image, 12 stops DR, amazing low light, HMDI out to the codec of your choice, NDs, XLRs, nice LCD, proper 1080p, no aliasing, no moire. $6k, what's not to like?
  7. Nikon just seem to miss the target, every time. Apparently the HDMI out is crippled on the D600 too (small black frame around the signal)

They are in the PERFECT position to completly monopolise the HDSLR industry. No high end to protect and a great set of lenses to promote to a new market of filmmakers.

A slightly more paranoid man might think that Sony enforce some kind of deal on their video functions, when selling them sensors.

Again, the codec is the weak link. A greater dynamic range would tend to make banding even more apparent.
Let me guess, someone who hasn't actually edited C300 footage? The codec is really, really good. It holds up really well.

Stop looking at paper specs and download some footage. Yes, 4K might have more problems with that codec, but equally likely, it will be the same, or it might be better.
  9. Don't forget that Scarlet will require repackaged SSDs that are sold at roughly 5x the market value. Not the 2x profit of Canon.... 5X!

Anyway... Canon know they will only sell high 100s or very low 1000s of this product over the next 12 months, so will look to hit the early adopters for their profit, then probably bring the price down quite dramatically.

Realisticly, it is only the rental companies and one or two operator/owners that will pay this high price.
