"Why the hell is this feature not implemented if the cameras are capable of it??"
Quite a valid question. I can not wait to see where this goes
Heck, I'd be happy with just a 1080p Raw stream. Or 2K 8 bit
-
Magic lantern just re-tweeted this:
"With Magic Lantern now possible to take 2040x1428 14bit RAW DNG without shutter actuation on 5D2 and 5D3. Time lapsers dream come true"
So i think this might still be limited to 6fps.
Luke is saying 24fps video

Neumann films is posting that Magic Lantern has hacked the 5d - 14bit RAW cinema DNG. holy poop. need more details

Is the GH3 really better in low light than APS-C? The low-light question is the only thing holding me back from a purchase...
Definitely. Not by leaps and bounds, but a noticeable bit. I shot with the t2i for years, and recently had chance to shoot a short film on the GH3. Noise performance at 800 and 1600 ISO is better.

wow. Amazing detail and color reproduction. I've been saving up for something beyond a DSLR, either the FS100 or 700, but everytime I see black magic footage I am inclined to change my mind
-
Well said but as a filmmaker I also like people to say what could be better next to the good things - only then you can improve next time.
It's called feedback ;)
agreed, as long as its constructive and helpful! I think he is mostly referring to people who are just jerks. comments like "you suck" "quit now" etc.

I have a background in music performance and education, and this has been going around social media sites between my music friends. However I can't help but think it is also incredibly relevant to those of us in the video/film realm.
Just some food for thought. I hope its encouraging

This looks a little gimmicky to me. Guess I'll have to wait and hear it before I pass judgement. The addition of knobs over buttons for level adjustments is welcome
-
is there any reason in particular you want the black magic? Something like the GH2 or GH3 would acheive the look with much greater ease
-
So the speed booster mentioned earlier would bring it back?
No, the 8mm lenses don't have hardly any depth of field to begin with. When you stick it on the blackmagic, it is just using the center part of the lens, so even less so.
-
Correct, I understand that an 8mm is considered "fisheye". So do you know how exactly an 8mm would look on this camera? Would it look more like a 24mm, due to the 3x crop?
Length wise it'd be about a 24, but there would probably be a little bit more distortion. And not as shallow depth of field
-
You would need to go lower. I feel like the Tokina 11-16 (canon mount) and the Metabones m43 speedbooster (like he said ^ doesn't exist yet but will soon) would probably give you a similar look.

That's fine for the 4K version, but as far as i understand the pocket camera uses the same sensor as the V1 EF and MFT. There is still alot of people waiting for the camera they ordered back in 2012. The MFT was meant to be released in Decmeber. It's now April and they are still in beta testing mode!
It is also a different sensor, just with a similar image.

& the cam turned itself off v.quickly (over heating?).
It probably just turns itself off after a set time of not recording to save battery life, just like any other cam on the market ;)
-
I'm really stoked to stick a 100mm macro on this thing. With the crop factor, DOF will be a little more manageable and it will of course be closer!

Hands on vid. Not much information and blackmagic seems to be contradicting themselves as they state in this video the pocket camera is proress only.I am confused. He is saying it doesn't record RAW. But the website says RAW

So with the announcement of the Black Magic Pocket cam, it seems inevitable that C mount lenses are going to be come very desirable. I'm not too familiar with them. Anyone know of any good resources for learning whats out there, or good places to buy? ebay?
Favorite C mount lenses?

http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicpocketcinemacamera/techspecs
24, 25, 30p. Focus Peaking. Headphone and mic jack, removable batteries. I am sold
-
so, should I just sell my 5d now? That pocket cam looks amazing specs wise
-
Totally blown away by this.
And it isn't just the slow mo - Imagine the kind of photography in terms of the stills you can get with this ultra high resolution, high speed cinematography.
Congrats to Vision Research, AbelCine and the director Brendan Bellomo and DP Gregory Wilson.
That'd be a pretty expensive photo shoot! But yes, huge potential
Really exceptional image quality and some amazingly cool shots.

This thing is badass and I want it. That is all

Tascam DR-60D
In: Cameras
yup, and cheaper than a JuicedLink Riggy Micro 222 plus Zoom H1 combo; bigger and heavier though, I'm interested if its pre-amp is cleaner than the H4n and other portable Tascam recorders.
Yeah, at the price I dont have a lot of faith that this sounds any better than anything thats on the market already. Form and functionality wise though this product is brilliant. They will probably sell a ton of these
