  1. There is a huge difference between "Event Photographers", "Wedding Videographers", 'Landscape Photographers", "Time Lapse" photographers or guys who teach 'Tutorials" even "Photographers" who play around with naked girls on their 5D's to some shite music..or shoot weddings that 95% of them will end in divorce within 5 years..lol...and a real 'filmmaker'.

Vimeo should have a seperate section on their site for weddings and the other BS...ad nauseum.

Just because a lot of people can buy a $3,500 still cam with video function (or even an Epic/Alexa for that matter) does not make them a Filmmaker.

Filmmakers shoot movies. (narrative - even with a 5D). I'll cut you some slack on a great documentarian like Werner Herzog or Ken Burns..but that's it.

I don't give a holy shit what Phillip 'i'm obsessed with pussy cats' Bloom calls himself.

Shoot a feature movie or shut the f*** up about what you are.

  2. There's plenty of examples on-line that show the 1 DX is much sharper than 5D3. I'm not going to go searching for old Links, but I've seen it over the last 6 months.

Just Google for examples. I don't always like Phillip Bloom's boring "cat" videos (i've heard of 'Cat Women' but he's the first guy I've ever heard of obsessed with cats), but I cannot argue with his footage. Btw, it's not just sharper, the colors are different, the DR is different. The 'feel' of the video is wayyyyyy different.

Bloom's new videos from Africa with the 1 DX are AMAZING quality for a DSLR and blow the 5D3 out of the water! Have no idea what you're (or not) looking at. It's not even close. But if you feel that way, you just saved yourself 3K.

And speaking of the 1 DC, I saw that on a 65 foot big screen (Hurlbut's 'The Ticket'), and that blows the C300 out of the water in every way possible. Not even close. Again, this was not on Vimeo. It was in the biggest movie theatre in Hollywood. Flat out Awesome.

  3. C500 easily. Wow, that was amazing. 1,000 times better than the short film (both of them) I've seen from earlier tests with the C500. This looked much more like film. The shorts I saw earlier and the BMC look like Hi Def Video.

    This was beautiful.

The ARRI is huge and heavy...the form factor with the C500 is almost perfect..(damn external rec)

  4. Canon 1 DX is the best full frame DSLR right now. Period.

Its 2 stops better than 5D3..and much sharper. Almost as sharp as a C300.

It's big brother, the 1 DC (availible December 26th) has the slow mo you wish for + it's the best stills camera (DSLR) in the world.

  5. Andrew,

Did you also shoot a short film (narrative) with the Ikonoskop?

If so, would love to see it! This cam may be a better solution for filmmakers then anything 15k and below period (still need to see more from the 1DC)

Narrative tells so much more about a camera then 99% of 'test' footage. Documentery (ex: phillip bloom) just doesn't cut it. Most want to purchase these cams to shoot (narrative) movies. If the camera manus would deliver that, it would be extremely helpful. That being said, have to congratulate Nikon and what their doing on the brand new D800 horror film. This will be their 2nd, after the nighttime motorcycle short photographed in Chicago nearly a year ago.

    Cheers my friend
