1.
If you're are fully funding your own stories, this camera will be a great tool. If you're just trying to hit some festivals to pitch your story talents for outside funding of a full length feature, just grab a GH2 or 60D. It seem the better the resolution and pro look of anyones video, should be equally matched with production design, along with director skill. It's easier to forgive the guy who did a okay job with a t2i and blast the guy who was mediocre who shot on Red.
Yeah, Im planning of grabbing one near Christmas, then'll I'll use the next year in building the skills to try and master it. By the end of the next year I'll decide if I wana upgrade to BMCC.
2.
You'll have to get a good set of lenses also if you don't have any. Don't only think about the brain, think about the eyes too.
Yup, I read uup enough to know that its more then the body ;)
In your case you're better off spending the extra money on lenses, sound equipment, etcetera.
If things go well next year then I can work it out, im more worried with lighting equipment. Should start with simple lights to test some light theories. Sound wont be to much of an issue, Ive seen some that fall under m budget. Yeah, im guna have to look into lenses to try and avoid that 'video' effect from the GH2, but thats why im reading everything I can :D
3.
Why? The cam doesn´t look pretty or ergonomic in my eyes. But if the pictures are good, who cares? ;)
oooooooh haha sounded weird in m head.
4.
It looks like someone at Microsoft wanted to design sth for Apple. Anyways´s, I couldn´t care less if the final image out of the BMC delivers what was promised.
Care to elaborate more?
5. Im a guy who plans to go back to school while trying to create stories on the side, if this camera claims to be what it is then im incredibly excited. I dont have alot of extra money, im planing on getting a GH2 by the end of the year because it suit my needs as a person delving into this field more seriously in the future. By next year I plan on actually getting this as an upgrade(If it proves to be true of what it claims to be). My point is that I cant be spending money on a high end camera or incredible gear/rigs. I need one that is versatile, more bang for buck, and this seems like the next logical step. While saving next year I'll be honing my craft with a GH2 in preparation, just to get my head around the concepts of light and composition. Im glad this is going to hit the market, I hope it shakes thing up in the indie market. I cant wait!
6. Wait... are we debating about a 2.5K 12-bit RAW camera with a 5D Mk.3? Am I not seeing something? Im not entirely the tech guy when it comes to this stuff, but the 12-bit RAW alone sold me on this camera, no more gimped color space. The only thing the 5D had going for it was its low light and full frame. Two of which are not that important to me, using the high iso of a 5D seems like a last resort kind of thing. 2.5K is perfect for 1080p video, alot of leg room if you need to crop or stabilize shots in post. Im sorry but looking at the footage of the BMCC, it looks quite phenomenal to anything ive seen from a 5D. Am I not seeing it correctly? I loved the grain as well, its not what you'd get from a GH2 or 5D, which is more purple square blotched noise then film grain. This is my thought, you get 2.5K with good RAW codec and 13 stops of dynamic range compared to a 1080p (which could be questionable if its 1080p) soft image(which can be sharpened in post) full frame camera. Both around the same price? You'd be mad not to got for the BMCC! Its the obvious choice! No more recording limit, more input/output options. Either we're really nitpicking here or im just not smart enough to see the bigger picture.
7.
better to say RIP extreme shallow DOF ... always used as a crutch by bad and lazy DPs ...
Totally agree, it was also used to hide moire, but now we wont have to :D Having a shallow depth of view should only be used when the shot/composition needs it, excessive use can reveal the amateur within the DP.
8. Im sure we'll be seeing charts later when there in our hands, as for a taste, its enough. I dont think @jcs is trolling, he's right. I take these DNG files just like a teaser, im sure we'll get more tests soon.
9. Sounds pretty amazing if true. Wish list: 60fps, 4-2-2, Clean HDMI out, Mic/Headphone Jack, robust codec.
10. Cant wait to hear what you think of the camera in you hands. Hoping for uncompressed review footage :D
11. WOW! That last clip, that first side shot of him smoking, all that detail on his face pops so nicely. Its really fantastic, thats what I like about the GH2, its weak in some parts but when it shines, it shines!
12. I picked B and F as my favorite, Im really shocked that B was the GH2, so far i'm loving the shootout.
13. oh and Drive soundtrack for the win! haha
14. Damn that does look good, well guess I'll have to pick one up down the line. Thanks Andrew.
