  1. Is $3899 a special COVID-19 deal? They were probably going for $4999 originally! Sheer greed of it.
  2. I did. Before realising that one of them was mine. Those Pentax lenses though - are some of the finest I've tried on the GFX. 50mm F1.4 and the new 85mm F1.4. I am also eying the Voigtlander 75mm F1.5. It makes for a very fetching 60mm F1.2 equiv. on the GFX 100. The Metabones Hasselblad V 0.7x speed booster is getting some use with the 63mm F3.5 and I am eying the Hasselblad / Zeiss 120mm F4 That 120mm turns into a 67mm F2.2 in terms of full frame look, but with the benefits of medium format sharpness and smooth focus roll off. It's between that and the Voigtlander at the moment, which is much smaller and lighter.
  3. A peerless medium format lens for the size. The images are lucid and autofocus superb on the GFX 100. New blog post https://www.eoshd.com/news/fuji-gf-50mm-f3-5-review-on-the-fujifilm-gfx-100/
  4. Is Leica, Sigma and Panasonic not enough? 🙂
  5. It would be nice to have a GH5S with IBIS. I wonder what they will call the G9 successor. Panasonic G10 was a low-end early camera under the G1. G100 we know about and it tarnishes the entire brand 🙂 So G... what? Whatever it's called, as the main stills flagship for Micro Four Thirds, a G9 successor will leave room for GH6 to go low-megapixel, good low light like GH5S rather than the 20MP GH5... That is, unless they choose to go down the 8K route!
  6. GFX100 is medium format! 100 megapixel. 28ms in 4K is a small miracle. Also, doesn't look like 28ms to my eye so not even sure if that's correct. S1H 4K 24ms is also very good, given it isn't pixel binning or line skipping from the 6K. Sony A9 has fastest sensor in the business. Canon seem to give us great rolling shutter performance in 4K/60p but cripple it in 24p to protect the Cinema EOS line. It's same old, same old! Yes £4k new standard pro price for mirrorless cameras. It's far cry from the GH2 days isn't it! Companies have finally realised how much money pros have! Or did have until coronavirus. I think we'll be seeing some discounting quite soon after the initial hype and pre-orders have died down. The R6 is more interesting for most people. I may just review that and leave the R5 till later.
  7. Promised at launch. Didn't deliver. Z6 was not sub $2k at launch either. It was $2500. I won't go easy on Nikon for teasing early adopters with ProRes RAW and then sitting on their hands for a whole year. Besides ProRes RAW is a niche feature. The real story here is the competition S1 has internal 10bit V-LOG and same image quality as the $4000 S1H. This S1 costs same as Z6. The Fuji cameras also have 10bit F-LOG, and a lot more besides! Plus they actually feel like high quality, well designed photographic tools! Also the entry price for enthusiast full frame cameras is now around $2000. And for that you can get a Sigma Fp with internal 4K RAW recording, external ProRes RAW recording (12bit) and BRAW, in an even smaller form factor. The Z6 is a bit of an A7 III with a Nikon badge. What is the unique selling point? 8bit, no LOG, no 60p? It's not a bad camera by any means... For 2018. But now the market has moved on, Nikon's response is... incremental at best. EOS R5, EOS R6, Sony A7S II successor, Fuji X-T4 with 10bit 4K/60p, rumoured Fuji X-H2 and Panasonic GH6, hefty pro video S1H and wonderfully creative Sigma Fp are all myriad reasons not to bother with a Nikon Z6 re-released with a letter S! So I don't think I am being too harsh. If Nikon want my money from now on they'll have to think outside the box. How so? If we are talking HDMI ProRes RAW they were not actually first because they didn't ship it first. I could announce I am the first camera nerd on the moon. But never actually go. Does that make me a groundbreaking astronaut, or a bit of a dickhead?! Expensive pro cameras are exactly the kind of tools Nikon should be making. The 1D X Mark III destroys the D6. The GFX 100 is a peerless technological marvel. The R6 and what Sony do next will both be better than the Z6 or rumoured Z6S for video. The R6 might even be the same price. The Sigma Fp has FF 4K ProRes RAW. The main thing however for most people is the internal recording. Here the Z6 offers 8bit and no LOG! Panasonic S1 destroys it in this regard.
  8. What do you suggest existing Z6 owners do? Bearing in mind our cameras cost $2500 new and are now worth half! Pony up the cash AGAIN for a few tiny improvements? Not going to happen! The Z6S rumoured specs are insulting.
  9. In my opinion needs a lot more than what is rumoured. What about internal 10bit? Internal N-LOG? Is the 4K/60p APS-C only or full frame? Dual card slots - Dual XQD or one SD and one XQD? Are they going to improve the body design? Make it less consumer? More to the point... Why would somebody buy a Z6 instead of S1 or EOS R6!
  10. I have bought almost every Nikon camera in the last 5 years. I have at one time owned a Z7, D5, D500, D850, D750 and now I only have the Z6 (and D3X) remaining with the rest sold. If you look back into Nikon's camera range you will see an incredible culture and design ethos. The meaty controls and build quality of the D3, D5 and D850 with their professional looks and very good build quality. The film era makes Nikon the respected company it is today with cameras like the FM, Nikon S rangefinder, the NASA F4 which was onboard shuttle launches and today aboard the ISS with the Nikon D5. But can you imagine NASA ever using a Nikon Z7? New blog post: https://www.eoshd.com/news/no-culture-or-heritage-in-nikons-z-series
  11. This does not do Sony any favours in the good will department. $2999 + tax £2899 in the UK. https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/camera-lenses/sel1224gm Makes me wonder if they will price the "new flagship" A7S II successor at something equally as daft? $6000 maybe? I don't think there are going to be many people willing to pony up this much cash whilst they have little or no work due to corona rules, etc.
  12. Panasonic in Japan have agreed to be interviewed for the blog. I'll ask some questions from the EOSHD Forum. Anything GH5 / GH5S / GH6 even. S1, S1H related and more Fire away!
  13. Kazuto Yamaki is admirable. He recently agreed to be interviewed on EOSHD, and I hope to bring you that soon. I think we should think more about the corporate vs private business philosophy of camera companies. Sony just released the 14-24mm F2.8 GM for $3000. At a time when a lot of pros have less work due to the pandemic and downturn in the economy, I think this pricing is sheer greed. Meanwhile Sigma have their own 14-24mm F2.8 of similar or even better quality - $1200. And their affordable 16mm, 30mm, 56mm primes for APS-C - all F1.4 and exceptional performance. Sony and Canon will likely want $4000+ for their latest cameras. A reminder that all large publicly listed companies exist purely for the benefit of making as much money as possible for shareholders, and it's also about moving manufacturing to where labour is cheapest - with all the environmental and social impact that brings to the planet too. Sigma are different and we should support that.
  14. 20GB per minute. 1.2TB per hour! Multiplied by how many hours you shoot a year. You are going to have to delete all the 8K RAW files after a week. This is why I am probably going to get R6 instead. But nobody should buy either until they have seen what Sony is coming out with. I do like the idea of 4K/120p on the R5, but 8K RAW will likely have almost an unusable rolling shutter as well. So, I don't need 8K.... but 4K/120p - yes please.
  15. I am wondering if sticking a teleconverter on a Sigma 100-400mm C or 150-600mm would be less weird than the Canon 800mm F11. That 600mm F6.3 end would turn into a 900mm F9.45 (with 1.5x tele). Canon RAW is compressed but not by very much. I hear the bitrate in 8K is 3500Mbit/s!
  16. Crop sensors take some beating for telephoto shooting. Much smaller optics, and yet still easily enough good resolution. I recently compared my Nikon P1000 (with very much a crop sensor!) to a 300mm F4 on a 60MP full frame camera (A7R IV) and it still outresolves this beast in terms of zoom reach (a shot of the moon). Full frame is wrong tool for the job for extreme telephoto work. 200, 300mm... fine. Even 400mm! But 800mm you may as well use M43 or APS-C and sharper, smaller lenses.
  17. Which "valid" people have I ever banned. Name one. "His" information isn't his. That's the thing you numpty. Trying to fool us into thinking he's some sort of oracle when actually he is all cut & paste.... Not cool is it.
  18. The R6 looks like the one to go for. 10bit rumoured. 5K oversampling. Better low light. No pixel binning. No 8K or RAW but those are impractical. $2500. Sony A7H (A7S III successor) is rumoured to have 10K, 4K Quad Bayer mode, RAW and to beat the EOS R5 in the specs arms race. Going to be an interesting week for sure.
  19. So yeah, another example of cutting and pasting, pretending it's his own 'inside info'. Could be complete bullshit for all we know. PS - on a lighter note, the GFX 100 with f/w 2.0 and 50mm F3.5 is reducing my will to buy the EOS R5 by a factor of a lot. Perfect AF, enormous epic look, and Fuji's colour science in 10bit is just... Cinema on a stick.
  20. @androidlad I am going to ask that you put a link to your sources. I've let you continue for a long time as a lot of your posts contribute to our understanding and inform us about leaks. But we need more transparency from you and a better way to validate the info which we have no way of knowing if it's authentic. I also think if you are passing off other people's info as your own, it isn't really ethical (like with the Graeme Nattress quote) And if you are the source, leaking inside info from a company you work for then that is most likely illegal. So... the URLs from now on please, or a ban. It's up to you.
  21. Download link corrected in post for EF mount version of MC-21.
  22. 800mm prime For a moment I thought it were a push/pull zoom!
  23. I recently picked one up too. Quite impressed with how cinematic it looks. Flare is a bit naff but apart from that... It's like LA7200 on steroids.
