Film and keeping the lens focussed while moving in

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I'm new to the forum and have a burning question which I suspect someone may know the answer.

In the main, I am a stills photographer who supplies people such as Getty Images work on a regular basis. But I want to expand my field into providing small film clips; time lapse and hyper lapse.

With the latter, and I don't know if it fits here, I understand the technique of moving the camera around a central point but it's when it comes to the cameraman moving in that I am getting lost.

If you are walking towards a subject that is 100 metres away how do you maintain focus?

The best way to explain is to watch this by Geoff Tompkinson:
