New SmallHD AC7 Monitors

The new SmallHD AC7 monitors with 8-bit color OLED displays and 1280x800 resolution seems awesome.

They write that the monitors support "Even works on 2X anamorphics, stretching and cropping to a 2:35 aspect ratio for a 16:9 input (pictured)". That's interesting, but unfortunately they don't mention anything about other modes available.

I'd assume the options for aspect ratio scaling will be similar to the settings on the older SmallHD models. Anyone who have experience on those and what options are available for desqueezing aspect ratios?

I have the 6" monitor and I did a custom horizontal width on the 2.35:1 setting. And I crop my footage (don't want super 3.55:1) to fit, so I stretch the horizontal width. This is for the 2x anamorphics, for the LA7200 the default setting works fine and displays fine. I save it to one of the presets and just use that. Works like a charm, although you do have to set the "center" when cropping.

You've been able to get a 1.5x crop on a 2x distortion with the SmallHD? How did you manage that?

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems to be awesome monitors.

...And oh boy, didn't expect pricing on the OLED HDMI version to be almost double the price of the normal HDMI version! OLED is nice, but it wouldn't be worth $500 extra over a normal LCD display to me - especially not since both are 8-bit. The entry level one seems to be nicely priced for what it is though!

Figured it out: http://www.eoshd.com...mallhd-monitor/

I shot a round reflector and adjusted the stretch based on the image. But my numbers are close to yours. It works very well and I can frame everything nicely.

Hi, Thanks so much for starting this topic as I am possibly keen to buy one of these...  Was just wondering if anyone knew whether you could essentially have your camera in stills mode and then have the Small monitor do the stretch conversion for you and have it displayed on the screen?  Anyone know if this is an option or there is some way of tricking the monitor to do it?  Or could you just have the camera in Live View mode (displaying the stills full frame) and have it displayed on the monitor and judge the scene that way?  I am keen to shoot some stills with Anamorphic ( I have a 5DII) but apart from having my camera tethered to my Laptop and manually stretching the image, I cannot think of a way to do it.   Any ideas?

Any help or suggestions would be really helpful..

I know the DP4 has HDMI in and out, but I'm not sure if the stretch signal would go out.  So you can do the anamorphic stretch with the SmallHD monitor, but the signal out might still be straight from the camera.  Sorry I can't really test that out for you.  If anything you can ask SmallHD, I figure their customer service could help out.
